The problem is even worse in developing countries where price remains a major barrier and 6 million children die each year from treatable conditions. In the case of HIV/AIDS, the few existing pediatric therapies(儿科的疗法)developed for children generally cost three times more than adult ones. As a result, clinicians lack clear guidelines on the best drug to use and often have to guess at the correct dose.‎ ‎ Fortunately, the WHO has drawn up the first international List of Essential Medicines for Children, containing 206 products considered safe for children. “But a lot remains to be done. There are priority medicines that have not been adapted for children’s use or are not available when needed,” said Dr Hans, the U.N. agency’s director of medicines policy and standards. Medicines that need to be adapted to children’s needs include many antibiotics, pain drugs as well as combination pills for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.‎ ‎ The agency is building an Internet entrance linking to clinical trials carried out in children and will launch a Web site with the information early next year. Testing medicines on children has always been a controversial issue, since good ethical(伦理的)practice requires informed agreement from people participating in clinical trials, which is difficult to obtain in the case of children.‎ ‎ As a result, research-based drug companies have been wary of developing ‎ child-friendly medicines and general companies have been slow to produce them at lower cost.In an attempt to deal with the issue, both Europe and the United States now have special rules offering extended patent protection for drugs that have been tested on children.‎ ‎56. Which of the following is the best title of the passage?‎ ‎ A. A Global Campaign to Promote Research into AIDS Medicine ‎ B. WHO Says Children are Dying for Lack of Child-sized Drugs ‎ ‎ C. Many People are Concerned about Children’s Drugs ‎ D. Measures Taken to Develop Child-friendly Medicine Quickly ‎57. Which of the following medicine is not needed to be adapted to children’s need according to the ‎ passage?‎ ‎ A. Pain killers. B. Tuberculosis. C. AID pills. D. Flu pills.‎ ‎58. Why has testing medicines on children always been a controversial issue?‎ ‎ A. It is against good ethical practice ‎ B. Children shouldn’t take part in clinical trials.‎ ‎ C. It is hard to get informed agreement from children tested.‎ ‎ D. Parents don’t allow their children to be tested on medicine.‎ ‎59. What can be inferred from the passage? ‎ ‎ A. There is still a long way to go on children’s medicine.‎ ‎ B. An Internet entrance is being built to link to clinical trials carried out in children. ‎ ‎ C. Both Europe and the United States now have special rules offering extended patent protection for children’s drugs. ‎ ‎ D. Less than half of the drugs currently used to treat children in the industrialized world have not been specifically tested on youngsters.‎ B ‎ I really hadn’t meant to yell at them. But that grey afternoon saw it just as my son and daughter were making a terrible mess on the floor in the kitchen.‎ ‎ With a tiresome report to write, I felt bothered at my desk. Suddenly, it occurred to me that my kids were at fault. A voice inside me insisted that I do something quickly.‎ ‎ “Ok, you two here, but what an awful thing you are attempting!” I was shouting angrily. I made for them, while it became evident that the boy wanted no part of me. “Get away from us!” he shouted back, there being an expression of support from his sister.‎ ‎ All of a sudden, I found the fault in myself. Quickly I shaped my hands into pincers(钳子) and crawled towards them, “Crabby(暴躁的) Daddy is here. Ha, Ha, Ha, he likes to yell at children, and then eat them!” My son continued to keep me away, but now he was laughing and crying at the same time. My mission to repair the damage caused by my yelling seemed to work well. Still, I regretted not having controlled myself first in a right way.‎ ‎ Need I let them know how badly they were acting by blaming? This is a lesson ‎ that serves myself. It only shows just how to get rid of something (ill-feelings, responsibility…) by blaming others. It’s not my “best self”.‎ ‎ We have to search for our “best self” when with our children. They don’t need perfect parents, but they do need parents who are always trying to get better. Here, I am reminded of the words of a great thinker. “When a man lives with God, his voice shall be as sweet as the murmur of the book…” Then, in our lifetime, couldn’t we always speak to our kids in such a sweet voice since most of us consider them as the most precious in the world? And before we reach this level, what should we do when we come across various difficult cases with our children?‎ ‎60. The author couldn’t help yelling at his kids this time probably because________.‎ A. the weather was so unpleasant B. a Daddy has his right to do so C. the kids didn’t ask him to join them D. he was tired of his boring work ‎61. Which of the following made the author aware of his fault?‎ A. No obvious reason. B. The boy’s yelling back.‎ C. His self-awareness. D. The girl’s shouting back ‎62. According to the passage, the author will _____ in another similar situation.‎ A. play a crab again like this time B. apologize to kids in a sincere way C. avoid blaming kids in a hurry D. beat them up about such things ‎63. What will the writer go on to write about in the next paragraph(s)?‎ A. How to behave ourselves properly when kids are at fault.‎ B. How to play with our children in a more interesting way.‎ C. How to deal with the housework with children around us.‎ D. How to persuade children to do what they are told to.‎ C Bali is an Indonesia island that is rich in indigenous (本土的) culture. A lot of people say that Balinese culture is unique and that the people of Bali have always been content with the “now”. If you ask a Balinese person what heaven is like, the probable answer will be “just like Bali”. This only goes to show that most Balinese people are happy to be where they are and never worry.‎ One factor that contributes to this laidback lifestyle is the culture of close family ties in Bali. In the Balinese culture, support is always available. Balinese extended families are so tightly linked that all members usually live in the same block.‎ Balinese culture is based on a form of this religion, which is called “Hindu Darma”. This religion reached the island during the eleventh century. Most of the family customs and traditions as well as community lifestyles of the Balinese people are influenced by this. The religious influence even expands widely into the arts, which makes Bali distinct from the rest of Indonesia.‎ In spite of the fact that tourists flood to the island every year, Balinese people have managed to conserve their culture. Almost every native of Bali is an artist in some form or another. Parents and villagers have passed on their skills to their children, who all seem to have inclinations (爱好) either to music, dance, painting, or decoration.‎ Another remarkable mark of the Balinese culture is the senses of ceremonies known ‎ as the Manusa Yadnya. This marks the different stages of Balinese life. Cremation (火葬) is very popular on this island—and unlike in the West, death is a joyous and colorful event for the Balinese.‎ ‎64. What do we know about Balinese according to the first two paragraphs?‎ A. They lead a very relaxing but unwealthy life.‎ B. They live in large families and are close to each other.‎ C. Their family members are distributed in different places.‎ D. Their extended families live too close together to get along well.‎ ‎65. Bali is distinguished from the rest of Indonesia by ______.‎ A. people’s tight family relationship B. the family customs and traditions C. people’s great love for religion D. the influence of religion on their culture ‎66. When a person dies in Bali, it is a common practice to ______.‎ A. express deep sorrow at his death B. sing and dance joyfully in his honor C. celebrate the death like a great event D. remember what he did in his lifetime D ‎ Researchers find that emotions play a central role in all thinking and behavior, including moral behavior. If we are asked whether we’d steal, most of us would say no. Would we try to save a drowning person? That depends—perhaps on our fear of big waves or deep water. Much research has explored the ways we make moral decisions. But, when the opportunity arises to do good or bad, how well do our predictions match up with the actions we actually take?‎ ‎ A study by Rimma Teper, Michael Inzlicht, and Elizabeth Page-Gould of the University‎ of ‎Toronto Scarborough tested the difference between moral forecasting and moral action—and the reasons behind any mismatch. Published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association of Psychological Science, the findings look encouraging: Participants acted more morally than they would have predicted.‎ ‎ But in case we get too emotional about that result, leading author and psychology PhD candidate Teper also offers this: “There has been other work that has shown the opposite effect—that people are acting less morally” than they forecast.‎ ‎ What’s the missing link between moral reasoning and moral action? Emotion. Emotions—fear, guilt, love—play a central role in all thinking and behavior, including moral behavior. But when people are considering how they’ll act, “they don’t have a good grasp of the level of the emotions they will feel” in that case, says Teper, so they misjudge what they’ll do.‎ ‎ For this study, three groups of students were given a maths test of 15 questions. One group was told that a glitch (小故障) in the software would cause the correct answer to show on the screen if they hit the space bar—but only they would know they’d hit it. This group took the test; a $5 reward was promised for 10 or more right answers. Another group was given a description of this moral dilemma, and was then asked to predict whether or not they would cheat for each question. The third group just took the test without the opportunity to cheat.‎ ‎ During the trial, electrodes (电极) measured the strength of participants’ ‎ blood pressure, their heart and breathing rates, and the sweat in their palms—all of which increase with strengthened emotion. Not surprisingly, those facing the real dilemma were most emotional. Their emotions drove them to do the right thing and keep them from cheating.‎ ‎ The students who were asked only to predict their actions felt calmer—and said they’d cheat more than the test-takers actually did. Students who took the test with no opportunity to cheat were calmer as well, suggesting the emotions that the students in the first group were feeling was unique to the moral dilemma.‎ ‎67. The writer’s purpose for writing this article is to________‎ ‎ A. advocate emotions conflict management. ‎ ‎ B. complain about the moral problems in stealing.‎ ‎ C. teach people different methods for treating emotions.‎ ‎ D. inform us of a study on how emotions affect moral decisions.‎ ‎68. Which of the following statements about the study is true according to the passage?‎ ‎ A. If students got 10 or more questions right by cheating, they would not get a reward. ‎ ‎ B. The first group experienced the highest level of emotions in the moral dilemma. ‎ ‎ C. The third group were unsatisfied that they were not allowed to cheat in the test. ‎ ‎ D. The second group, as a matter of fact, cheated more than they themselves predicted.‎ ‎69. Why did the team of scientists carry out the study mentioned in the passage?‎ ‎ A. To prove that more people are willing to save a drowning person ‎ B. To test whether people will behave morally when faced with danger ‎ C. To explore the match between moral action and prediction and reasons behind ‎ D. To describe different behavior of three groups of students in the experiment ‎70. What is the most valuable discovery of the study?‎ ‎ A. Emotions are the key to whether human behavior will be morally right or wrong. ‎ ‎ B. People should never be told that they are allowed to cheat in examinations. ‎ ‎ C. If rewards are not great, people are more likely to do morally right things. ‎ ‎ D. Future research by this team will only further confirm the findings they have found. ‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ Self discipline is something that many of us would love to improve.___71___Then again, there is such a thing as over doing it as well as the other end of the spectrum, which is no self discipline. To learn or gain more self discipline we first need to know we need it. ___72____For example, the person who is a workaholic thrives on a busy schedule, that is, until they have a heart attack. Then they see the need to learn self discipline and change their lifestyle. As a result, they take action and make it happen.‎ ‎ ____73____ To reach a goal it needs to be realistic, otherwise it can be a step back instead of forward. If the goal is set too high then you will fail and think ‎ its proof of the fact that you can't do it. Whereas, if there would have been several small goals that led to the larger one you would have kept going forward.‎ ‎ Change your habits. It's the bad habits that get in the way of self discipline. A person who wants to lose weight can't keep the bad habit of getting in the fridge every night at 10:00 to eat cookies and milk.___74____ How? Set a doable goal of not doing it for 2 nights, then 3, then 4 and so forth.‎ ‎ ____75____For instance, the person who eats cookies and milk at night if they don't buy the cookies they won't be able to eat them. Another example is a person with issues of alcohol abuse, don't go where it is, don't buy it and don't hang with friends who drink or get high.‎ Finally, reward yourself for self discipline accomplishments. However, be careful here or your hard earned self discipline will be for naught. Choose healthy rewards like a good book, massage, movies, a ball game, crafts or anything that is of interest and improves quality of life.‎ A. Set doable goals. ‎ B. This bad habit has to go! ‎ C. Stop temptation in its tracks. ‎ D. Self discipline is all about doing what you don't want to do, but need to do. E. Many times people don't pursue more self discipline until they're in trouble. ‎ F. Then the next day mark them off as you do them this is basic self discipline.‎ G.
