A. sometimes B. always C. occasionally D. rarely 解析:选B。 2. A. died B. returned C. disappeared D. retired 解析:选A。第四段开头,店主的话“I know your husband passed away a year ago”表明了她的丈夫已经去世。 3. A. come B. plant C. grow D. leave 解析:选C。 4. A. first B. second C. last D. every 解析:选C。 5. A. guessed B. remembered C. decided D. informed 解析:选A。 6. A. in return B. in addition to C. in reality D. in advance 解析:选D。 in advance“提前”;in return“作为报答”;in addition to“除了”;in reality“事实上”。 7. A. live through B. pass away C. break down D. leave behind 解析:选B。 pass away“去世”;live through“度过,经受过”;break down“毁掉,中止,垮掉,分解”;leave behind“留下,遗留”。 8. A. free B. early C. quiet D. fine 解析:选D。 9. A. one B. some C. them D. it 解析:选C。 10. A. but B. and C. then D. therefore 解析:选B。“A year went by”和“it was tough to live without him”的关系是并列的,没有因果和转折的含义,因此用and。 11. A. by B. out C. inside D. upon 解析:选A。 12. A. visited B. went C. came D. called 解析:选D。 13. A. when B. whether C. why D. how 解析:选C。 14. A. sent B. received C. possessed D. accepted 解析:选B。 15. A. an order B. an excuse C. a proposal D. a program 解析:选A。 16. A. letter B. article C. note D. card 解析:选D。 17. A. marriage B. life C. love D. family 解析:选C。 20. A. flowers B. roses C. cards D. words 解析:选D。 Ⅲ. 阅读理解 A (2010年华师大附中期中测试)Most Americans would have a difficult time telling you, specifically, what are the values which Americans live by. They have never given the matter any thought. Over the years I have introduced thousands of international visitors to life in the United States. This has caused me to try to look at Americans through the eyes of foreign visitors. I am confident that the values listed in this booklet describe most(but not all)Americans, and that understanding these values can help you,the international visitor, understand Americans. It is my belief that if foreign visitors really understand how deeply these 13 values are ingrained in Americans, they will then be able to understand 95% of American actions—actions which might otherwise appear“strange”,“confusing”,or“unbelievable”when evaluated from the perspective (aspect)of the foreigner’s own society and its values. The different behaviors of a people or a culture make sense only when seen through the basic beliefs, assumptions and values of that particular group. When you encounter (meet)an action,or hear a statement in the United States which surprises you,try to see it as an expression of one or more of the values listed in this booklet. 1. An ordinary American can’t tell you his/her value system because ________. A. this is something an American lives by B. everyone will have his/her own value system C. he/she has never thought about it D. values are something often in their thought 解析:选C。 2. The author lists 13 values in his booklet to ________. A. invite foreigners to visit America B. look at Americans through the eyes of foreign visitors C. describe the confusing actions of most Americans D. help international visitors understand Americans 解析:选D。 3. The underlined word“ingrained”in Line 2,Paragraph 3 most probably means“ ________”. A. rooted in the minds B. found in the grains C. planted for food D. prepared with grain 解析:选A。 4. Visitors sometimes find Americans behave in a strange, confusing or unbelievable way, probably because ________. A. Americans are hard to understand B. Americans have values which are entirely different from their own C. they view Americans according to the values in their own society D. it is difficult to understand any people when you first encounter them 解析:选C。 B (2010年临川一中期中测试)Is early childhood education really necessary?Early childhood education primarily focuses on learning through playing to develop the child’s physical, sensory, communicational and social development. Early childhood education has become a concern of the government, who pushes poor children to be formally trained before they are old enough for kindergarten. There are good reasons for the government to push early childhood education. Studies have shown that orphan children who did not receive good care or education become developmentally delayed causing failure in school, and even in life. Further studies show that poor children who take part in Head Start programs are more prepared for school, less likely to end up in Special Education classes, and are less likely to receive public help or go to jail. There are also negative parts to put a child in formal education programs too early. Time Magazine online explains that“the younger the child, the less his chances of catching up with firstgrade work”. I have personally witnessed many children of my generation who went to Head Start programs become frustrated and bored with school before they finished high school. Yet parents have been sure that the earlier the child starts school, the better off he or she is,so they push to start children earlier. Actually while early formal education of poor children does show great gains in the early elementary years, studies also show that this head start is really a “false start”,as the gains are lost in middle and high school years. It seems that environment is a bigger factor on life’s success than early education. Head Start programs have not achieved its original goal in closing the achievement gap in poor and rich middle school children. Perhaps it is time to find other ways to close that gap. 5. The purpose of the government valuing early childhood education is ________. A. to develop the children’s communication B. to give orphan children good care and education C. to get the children prepared for the kindergarten D. to train the children formally and regularly 解析:选C。 6. According to the studies, which of the following is True? A. Children with good early education may have a rich life. B. The orphan children are usually unhappy in their life. C. Children without early education can do well at school. D. Head Start programs are helpful to the poor children. 7. The author’s attitude toward early childhood education is ________. A. puzzling B. objective C. indifferent D. approving 解析:选B。 8. The main idea of the last paragraph is that ________. A. early childhood education is very necessary B. Head Start programs have helped the children a lot C. environment is the most important to life’s success D. better ways should be found to help the poor children 解析:选D。
