Many famous stars brought their children to a strange village alone, where they had to spend 72 hours with their children. The program fully showed us a modern version(版本)of "how to be a good father". As the young parents today are too busy to look after their children, this new form of "Lost on the way" played by nanny (保姆) Daddy and cute kids caused a lot of people's emotional resonance (共鸣). Both the kids and their parents will find their hearts are being drawn closer. But this kind of feeling has just proved there is a big barrier(障碍)between the modern parents and children. The TV shows like "Children are hard to support!", "Where are we going, Dad?", "hot mom" and "cute kids" are becoming more and more popular. All of these show the new parents' confusion in children's education and the appeal for the balance between career and family. In real life, on the one hand, the young parents feel helpless because they are too busy to accompany their children under the pressures of work and life; on the other hand, they continue to do so. The data collected by HNTV shows that nearly two-thirds of their audience are women, among whom 36% are aged from 25 to 34. We can imagine that one evening a young mother is watching the show with her young children, while her husband is still at work or trapped in socializing(社交), or maybe is just playing computer games in the bedroom. The story of a child without the company of father is still going on. In fact, it is sometimes the same to mothers. In a modern family, it is often the old who take the responsibility of raising a child. The participation of mother in the children's education is also very low. It is just this kind of confusion where the parents have gone in the modern family education, and where the parents will guide their children to go that "Where are we going. Dad?" shows us. If a child wants to grow up healthily and safely into a modern citizen with independent personality and free spirit, it is very important for him or her to follow the parents who serve as their first teachers. Maybe this is the real reason why such kind of TV program could get hot. The truth is that children will go where their parents go; and society will go where the children go. 39. From the first 2 paragraphs, we can know that______. A. Because of famous stars, TV shows become very popular. B. the TV program makes many strange villages well-known C. there is no barrier between the fathers and kids in the show D. young parents usually don't know how to balance career and family 40. Which of the following is close to the last sentence of this passage in meaning? 第 10 页 共 10 页 A. Children want to go with their parents. B. Children will determine the future of society. C. Society has a big influence on the growth of children. D. Children are usually self-willed (任性的). 41. The best title for the passage is____________. A. Parents, children’s first teacher B. Kids Are Hard to Support C. How to look after Children D. Where Are We Going, Dad? C Being in the right place at the right time and getting in on the ground floor can make you rich. If someone suggested back in the 1990s that you start an Internet company, you would have probably laughed. Most of us did. But there were a handful of smart people who didn't laugh. They went to make their little websites at the right time, and today they don't have a worry in the world. I believe I've found such a business. People just like you are making lots of money with this new technology we call...3D printing. Business Insider says it's “the next trillion dollar industry.” The Economist compares its history-changing effect to the invention of the steam engine(蒸汽机). Trend forecasters are whispering how this invention could create “more millionaires than the Internet.” All around the world,3D printing revolution goes on...and this is your chance. You are finally in exactly the right place,at exactly the right time...right where you can knock into the growing trend—3D printing. These 3D printers make actual things that you can hold in your hand and use in your everyday life. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it actually works. Don't ask me how. I'm not a technology expert, and can't explain it to you. What I do know is that 3D printing makes me more dollars in a week, and sometimes in a single day, than I used to make in a month...and now you can do the same!3D printing is the largest money-making opportunity of the decade(十年),an opportunity that anyone with a computer and the Internet can use. You can simply design the product you want on your computer or download a finished design, and the 3D printer makes it for you. You can 3D print things like toys, jewelry, spare parts, you name it. Thanks to 3D printers, now you can have a factory right on your desktop! I was born in a country in Eastern Europe. Without a college degree and with my thick East European accent, I didn't have much going in my favor. I was poor and couldn't speak a word of English when I first came to America, and thanks to 3D printing, I have got financial freedom and a dream lifestyle. I don't have to wake up at six in the morning, bus for one hour to a job I hate, or work hard to the bone just to fill someone else's pockets. Instead, I enjoy time with my family. I take wonderful holidays and travel the world, dine in nice restaurants without having to look at the prices, and live life the way it was meant to be lived. Unluckily, a growing number of people these days choose to depend on the government or their employers. I will show you how to make money with 3D printing. Even if you're quite new to all of this and you have only a few hours a week to follow my system, you can still have a second income or even a full-time income in a matter of weeks. 42.Paragraph 1 suggests that if you want to be rich you should ________. A. start a website right now B. study modern technology C. catch chances of business D. stand in the right place 43.The writer says again and again that 3D printing ________. 第 10 页 共 10 页 A. can make us become rich easily B. is very interesting and admirable C. is a game for clever people D. can make anything you imagine 44.The writer's own story is one about ________. A. cultural B. technological C. political D. commercial D Some people like to have a few close friends on Facebook, while others have hundreds whom they hardly know. Researchers now believe that the number of friends you have can show how successful you are, and even how often you move. Researchers from the University of Virginia and the London Business School say the perfect number of friends actually depends on several socioeconomic factors, and is different from country to country. Shigehiro Oishi, a psychology professor from the University of Virginia’s College of Arts & Sciences, and Selin Kesebir of the London Business School studied the benefits of social networking strategies(策略) in two studies currently published in the journal Psychological Science. One reason that Americans may prefer a large social network, the researchers claim, is because Americans move around a lot. Another important factor may be the economic conditions at a given time. Oishi and Kesebir predicted that a broad, shallow networking strategy would be optimal(最理想的) for people living in a residentially (在居住条件上的) mobile, economically favorable context. A narrow, deep networking strategy, on the other hand, would be optimal if people tend to stay in one place and economic conditions aren’t as favorable. In the first study, they created a model that simulated(模拟) the benefits individuals receive from their social network under various socioeconomic conditions. The researchers were able to simulate people who have different numbers of friends at different levels of friendship, and they were also able to explain the investment(投资) required by each type of friendship. As they predicted, they found that having a small social network with deep ties to friends is advantageous when friends are not likely to move away and the economy is unstable(不稳定). Oishi and Kesebir conducted the second study to see whether this pattern of results would hold up in the real world. They found 247 Americans to take part in an online survey through Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. The survey was designed to be similar to the computer simulation from the first study. The findings from the second study repeated those of the first study. In postcodes in which people were stable and had relatively low incomes, participants who had a narrow, deep friendship strategy reported better health than those who had a broad, shallow friendship strategy. 46. Why do most Americans have a large social network? A. Because they often change the places they live. B. Because they enjoy traveling very much. C. Because of the cheap cost of network. D. Because of the need of their work. 47. According to the two studies, which of the following is the best for people who are economically unstable? A. Making a few close friends on Facebook. 第 10 页 共 10 页 B. Making a lot of close friends on Facebook. C. Making a few shallow friends on Facebook. D. Making a lot of shallow friends on Facebook. 48. The purpose of the researchers conducting the second study is to ________. A. discuss the benefits of making friends from a social network B. study the possibilities of making real friends online C. try to explain the functions of a social network D. prove whether their theory still works in real life 49. This passage is mainly about _________. A. Why Facebook is popular in America B. What the benefits of making friends are on Facebook C. How you make friends on Facebook shows your personality D. The number of friends on Facebook could say something about your life E Hilary Smith belonged to a good family. But by the age of twenty, he had spent all the money the good old family had. He then had some trouble with the bank and was put in prison. He escaped from the prison and ran to Australia at once. Hilary did not like Australia, and Australia did not like Hilary. What he could do seemed to be one of two things: die or work. Then he remembered that he was not alone in the world. He had an aunt. She was his father's only sister, but his father used to say she brought no glory(荣耀)to the family. Hilary, of course, tried to discover what she had done. It seemed that she had failed to marry a nobleman. Instead, she had chosen a husband who was connected with "trade". Of course as soon as she became "Mrs. Parks", her brother considered her dead. Later on, Mr. Parks died and left her a lot of money; but that did not bring her back to life in her brother's opinion. Hilary discovered his aunt's address. Luckily she remained faithful and honest to him even after she fell ill. So Hilary's star shone again, and soon he moved into her house and lived as comfortably as a sailor who had just reached harbor. He had only about a sixpence in his pocket. One thing was soon clear: his aunt was seriously ill, and nothing could cure her illness. Hilary was very worried. Fate had found a home for him, and was now going to throw him out of it. There was only one thing that could save him: her will(遗嘱). "Will?" she said, "yes, I have made one. That was when I was a girl and had not much money. I left all my money to some religious people." "Didn't you make another will when you were married?" Hilary asked. His aunt shook her head. "No," she said in a low voice, "There was no need. When I finally had a lot of money I found I had no relations." On the next day he went to the public library and examined a book of law. It told him what he already believed. When a woman is married, an earlier will loses its value. A new will must be made. If no new will is made, the money goes to the nearest relation. Hilary knew that he was his aunt's only relation. His future was safe. After a few months had passed, Hilary's problems became serious. He badly needed money. He had expensive tastes, and owed a lot of money to shopkeepers. They trusted him because his aunt was rich; but the debt was terrible. Unluckily his aunt did not want to discuss money matters at all. In the end they had a 第 10 页 共 10 页 quarrel about the small amount of ten pounds. Hilary was not very angry. He began to wonder about a new problem. Was it kind to want his aunt to live any longer? Was it not better for her to die now? While he was considering what to do, his aunt told him that she was going to send for her lawyer. So she was going to make a new will, Hilary thought. She might leave all her money to someone else. Soon he reached a clear decision. He must do a great kindness to the poor old woman. One night when the old servant who had been nursing his aunt went off, he doubled the amount of some medicine. The total amount was too great and it could just put her to sleep forever. "Thank you," his aunt took the glass from his hand with a grateful look. "I want, more than anything, to sleep, and never to wake up again. Is that what you wish, Hilary? Don't blame(责怪) me if I have some doubts about what you intended to do. Sick people get these ideas, you know. One thing I ought to explain to you. Mr. Parks never married me. He already had a wife and couldn't marry again. That made your foolish father very angry with me... Well, if I am alive tomorrow I shall make another will in your favor. If I die tonight, you'll get nothing... No, Hilary, don't try to take the glass away. If you do that, I shall know, and I don't want to know. Goodnight, Hilary." Then, very carefully, she raised the glass to her mouth and drank. 50. From the story, we learn that Hilary's aunt was _____.
