A Are you looking forward to watching some great films in this summer? Here are four films you won't miss.‎ Wonder Woman Wonder Woman is this summer's most exciting film. Though being a superhero film, it is the most unique: you will see the first female superhero starred by Gal Gadot. On general release from 1 June.‎ The Mummy Tom Cruise awakens an ancient princess who has now become a mummy. Cruise jumps from the sky, runs around a lot and wakes up naked in a sleeping bag — but it's Sofia Boutella as the Mummy who draws the most attention. Director Alex Kurtzman speaks highly of Sofia Boutella as the Mummy: “If you look at her eyes, there's a whole performance going on here. Even not saying anything, she can convey something very emotional to you.” On general release from 8 June.‎ Baby Driver Ansel Elgort is a getaway driver, who is forced to work for a crime boss. This is a actionromanticcomedy from British writerdirector Edgar Wright. The sound in the film is as great as the visuals, which makes it much like a musical, but it is quite different from La La Land. Baby Driver isn't just a series of song pieces. Instead, it finds its form in the elegant, rapidfire combination of movement and sound. Released on 28 June in Canada and the US.‎ A Man Called Ove This film has become one of Sweden's most popular comedies. In the film a lonely retiree who has given up on life, was trying to kill himself, but all his attempts failed. Meanwhile, he developed an unlikely friendship with his neighbors. It is really a tearjerker (催人泪下的电影), which is funny, tragic, and heartwarming as well. Released on 25 May in Hong Kong, 30 June in the UK.‎ ‎1.If you are a big fan of Batman and Superman, which film will you like best?‎ A.Wonder Woman. B.The Mummy.‎ C.Baby Driver. D.A Man Called Ove.‎ 解析:选A 推理判断题。根据Wonder Woman部分中的“Wonder Woman ... you will see the first female superhero starred by Gal Gadot.” ‎ ‎2.Alex Kurtzman speaks highly of Sofia Boutella because _________.‎ A.her eyes are very beautiful B.she doesn't say anything as the Mummy in the film C.she gives an excellent performance D.she is a woman with strong emotions 解析:选C 细节理解题。根据The Mummy部分中的“If you look at her eyes ... she can convey something very emotional to you.” ‎ ‎3.Which of the following statements is right according to the text?‎ A.Wonder Woman is the first superhero film.‎ B.Sofia Boutella performs as well as Tom Cruise.‎ C.Baby Driver is a musical like La la Land.‎ D.The audience of A Man Called Ove may experience different feelings.‎ 解析:选D 细节理解题。根据A Man Called Ove部分中的“It is really a tearjerker (催人泪下的电影), which is funny, tragic, and heartwarming as well.” ‎ B At first sight, Alma Deutscher, a thirteenyearold girl from England appears to be like any other typical preteen. She loves to skip rope, read and play with her younger sister. But this modest youngster, who composed her first musical work at age six, first short opera at age seven, and first fulllength opera based on Cinderella at age ten, is anything but average. Though her parents downplay her extraordinary talent, young Alma is being described as “little Mozart” by the music world.‎ Alma's operatic take on the classic fairy tale, which she began writing at age eight, has a slight twist. Her Cinderella is a musician who meets her Prince Charming through a song. “In my Cinderella, she sings the beginning of a ballad — but at midnight she flees. Eventually, the prince finds her after asking all the maidens of the land to sing the end of the ballad.”‎ The opera was first performed in Vienna, Austria on December 29, 2016, where the then elevenyearold skillfully switched between the piano and the violin and received enthusiastic reviews. The young genius has since performed two new piano works, once in Australia and the other in China.‎ While this may appear to be a lot for someone so young, Alma is not worried. She says, “Of course I have to work hard. But all children have to work hard for exams, and at least when I work hard, I work hard for something incredibly exciting, like seeing my whole ‎ opera put on.”‎ Alma's musical talent first came to light before she could even talk. Her parents recall that as an 18monthold toddler, she was able to hum a perfect version of the children's rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.‎ However, Alma's abilities only gained international attention in 2012, after a family friend posted a video online comparing her to Mozart. The family was suddenly swamped with media and Alma became an overnight star, dubbed “little Mozart”. This nickname makes her parents unhappy because they believe it puts added pressure on the young girl. They would instead prefer her to be called “a composer and musician”.‎ Alma does not want to be compared to the famous artist either, saying “There was only one Mozart, and I prefer to be little Alma.” Regardless of what she calls herself, the thirteenyearold is changing the world of music forever!‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。 ‎ ‎4.What do we know about Alma Deutscher?‎ A.She comes from a famous musical family.‎ B.She showed a great musical talent from a young age.‎ C.She regularly performs the classical music of Mozart.‎ D.She has adapted some famous works of classical music.‎ 解析:选B 细节理解题。根据第一段的第三句“But this modest youngster ... is anything but average.” ‎ ‎5.How did Alma get to be widely known?‎ A.Through an online video.‎ B.By performing on television.‎ C.By putting on an opera.‎ D.Through her parents' promotion.‎ 解析:选A 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段的第一句“However, Alma's abilities ... after a family friend posted a video online comparing her to Mozart.” ‎ ‎6.What is Alma's attitude towards her success?‎ A.She is still unsatisfied with her performance.‎ B.She is uncomfortable with so much pressure.‎ C.She is modest about her musical achievements.‎ D.She is proud to have become a professional musician.‎ 解析:选C 推理判断题。 ‎ ‎7.What can we infer about Alma's parents?‎ A.They are very welleducated people.‎ B.They are protective of their daughter.‎ C.They have pushed Alma to take up music.‎ D.They have made a good life plan for Alma.‎ 解析:选B 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“The family was suddenly swamped with media and Alma became an overnight star ... They would instead prefer her to be called ‘a composer and musician’.” ‎ C ‎(2019·福州模拟) It's OK to say you've never heard of grime — unless you're from the UK. That's because this music was invented in the UK in the early 2000s.‎ To someone who's not familiar with underground music culture, it's easy to get confused between hiphop and grime since they are both noisy. And many people didn't bother to tell them apart, until earlier this month when grime stars like Stormzy and J Hus led this year's MOBO Awards — “Music of Black Origin” — nominations (提名) in the UK.‎ Just like UK electronic music and hiphop, from which grime drew influence, it mostly reflects the thoughts of young people. But different from hiphop, grime singers sing in dialects with strong accents, giving a special flavor to their songs.‎ Lady Leshurr, known as the “Queen of Grime”, said that she once tried to hide her accent, as she didn't want people to judge her. But one day, she realized that she didn't need to change herself just to please others. And there's no doubt that this is the most basic and important quality of grime music: be yourself.‎ Also different from the hiphop culture, which usually focuses on being rich, grime singers pay more attention to social phenomena like the European refugee problem and the gap between the rich and poor.‎ Although still quite young, grime seems to be getting favored by more and more people. In 2016, the English grime artist Skepta won the Mercury Prize with his album Konnichiwa, beating big names like David Bowie and Radiohead. However, no matter whether grime is one day accepted by the mainstream music world or not, one thing is for sure: in grime, singers always stay true to themselves.‎ ‎8.What do hiphop and grime music have in common?‎ A.They are originated in the UK.‎ B.They make a lot of loud noise.‎ C.They challenge traditional culture.‎ D.They are full of creative ideas.‎ 解析:选B 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“it's easy to get confused between hiphop and grime since they are both noisy”可知,人们很容易把hiphop和grime音乐弄混,因为它们都很吵,故hiphop和grime音乐的共同之处在于它们的声音都很大,故选B项。‎ ‎9.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?‎ A.Electronic music. B.Hiphop.‎ C.Grime music. 根据第三段中的“Just like UK electronic music and hiphop”可知,画线词it所指代的音乐与英国electronic music和hiphop相似,因此it就不指代这两种音乐,故排除A、B选项;根据“But different from hiphop, grime singers sing in dialects with strong accents, giving a special flavor to their songs.” ‎ ‎10.What can be learned about grime singers?‎ A.They care too much about themselves.‎ B.They refuse to be judged by others.‎ C.They tend to take social responsibility.‎ D.They show strong independence qualities.‎ 解析:选C 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“grime singers pay more attention to social phenomena like the European refugee problem and the gap between the rich and poor”可知,grime歌手更多地关注社会现象,比如欧洲的难民问题、贫富差距。 ‎ ‎11.What does Skepta's success suggest?‎ A.Grime is gradually getting recognized.‎ B.Singers should try to be themselves.‎ C.Grime has become mainstream music.‎ D.It is easy to win the Mercury Prize.‎ 解析:选A 推理判断题。 ‎ D Smile, you're on body cam As camera technology gets smaller and cheaper, it isn't hard to imagine a future where we're all filming everything all the time, in every direction.‎ Would that be a good thing? There are some obvious potential upsides. If people know they are on camera, especially when at work or using public services, they are surely less likely to misbehave. Another upside is that it would be harder to get away with crimes or to escape from blame for accidents.‎ Body cam data could also create a legal minefield. Arguments over the truth and interpretation of police footage (影像) have already surfaced. Eventually, events not caught on camera could be treated as if they didn't happen. Alternatively, footage could be faked or doctored to avoid blame or do wrong to others.‎ Of course, some people think that if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear. But most people have done something embarrassing, or even illegal, which they regret and would prefer hadn't been caught on film. People already remove their social media feeds or avoid doing anything wrong in public — for fear of damaging their reputation.‎ The alwaysoncamera world could even threaten some of the qualities that make us human. We are natural persons who enjoy talking about other people's private lives and while those might not be desirable behaviour, they oil the wheels of our social interactions. Once people assume they are being filmed, they are likely to keep silent.‎ The argument in relation to body cam ownership is a bit like that for guns: once you go past a critical threshold (临界点), almost everyone will feel they need one as an insurance policy. We are nowhere near that point yet — but we should think hard about whether we really want to see lights, body cams and action.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇议论文。 ‎ ‎12.What does the underlined word “upsides” in Paragraph 2 refer to?‎ A.Advantages. B.Rules.‎ C.Shortcomings. 根据第二段中的“If people know they are on camera ... would be harder to get away with crimes or to escape from blame for accidents.” ‎ ‎13.Why do people argue about police footage?‎ A.Police footage can show the truth.‎ B.Events caught on footage are treated unfairly.‎ C.Police footage could be changed on purpose.‎ D.Footage should not be filmed by police.‎ 解析:选C 细节理解题。 ‎ ‎14.What does the author believe?‎ A.People pretend to behave well with cameras on.‎ B.People's private lives should be respected.‎ C.Talking about others' private lives promotes social interactions.‎ D.People keep silent before cameras when talking about themselves.‎ 解析:选C 细节理解题。 ‎ ‎15.What is suggested in the last paragraph?‎ A.We don't need a critical threshold.‎ B.We should be cautious about adopting the body cam.‎ C.We need the body cam as an insurance policy.‎ D.We haven't decided whether to take action.‎ 解析:选B 推理判断题。 How similar are language and music?‎ Language is a part of our daily lives. Similarly, music is a part of many people's lives, either listening to the radio on your drive to work or playing in an orchestra Both language and music play a huge role in our culture. __1__‎ In English we record language using a collection of letters. __2__ Just as you are reading this collection of letters and find the meanings in it, musicians read notes and create meanings in the form of music which we can hear. So just as you read English, you can read music. By writing pieces of text or music, we can share experiences through time. It's exciting to be able to read the ideas or hear the composition of someone who lived hundreds of years ago.‎ ‎__3__ In the same way, we know that styles of music are different around the world,‎ ‎ giving us the opportunity to explore many different cultures through their music. This also means that there is something for everyone! Even if you don't like Britpop tunes, you may love Latin American music.‎ ‎__4__ Of course you may be able to see it in my face, but you will know for sure through my words. Similarly, music can sound angry, sad or happy. Music can show you exactly how the composer was or is feeling and allow us to share that emotion. When you feel happy, you may want to sing and dance to a happy song to celebrate your happy mood. __5__ I think we have all used music to express our emotions, often combining it with language in the form of lyrics (歌词).‎ A.How do you know that I am angry?‎ B.And here are some of their similarities.‎ C.Similarly, we use notes to keep a record of music.‎ D.Reading music is like learning a whole new language.‎ E.Music, on the contrary, can be interpreted based on personal experience.‎ F.In contrast, you have probably also listened to sad music when you were feeling down.‎ G.You can make a good guess at where someone is from by listening to the language they use.‎ ‎1.选B 根据前一句“Both language and music play a huge role in our culture.” ‎ ‎2.选C 根据前一句“In English we record language using a collection of letters.” ‎ ‎3.选G 根据后一句“In the same way, we know that styles of music are different around the world, giving us the opportunity to explore many different cultures through their music.” ‎ ‎4.选A 根据后一句“Of course you may be able to see it in my face, but you will know for sure through my words.” 故选A项。‎ ‎5.选F 根据前一句“When you feel happy, you might want to sing and dance to a happy song to celebrate your happy mood.” ‎
