The Titanic is a famous ship that sank in 1912. The dramatic story of the ocean liner has fascinated millions of people around the world. It was supposed to be an unsinkable ship but it hit an iceberg and sank on its very first voyage. There have been many documentaries, films and books about the Titanic. Interest in the ship was heightened in 1997 when a movie called Titanic was released, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The replica Titanic ocean liner will be called Titanic II. It is scheduled to sail in 2016, from Southampton, England to New York in the United States. It is being built in China. The designers want it to be as similar to the original Titanic as possible, except for some changes that will make it safer and more stable. And unlike the original Titanic, which was powered by coal-fired boilers and steam engines, the Titanic II will have modern diesel (柴油机) and electric engines. Also, unlike the first ship, the Titanic II will have more than enough lifeboats to accommodate everyone on board if something should go wrong. Palmer’s design would include many features of the original Edwardian design, including the grand staircase and Turkish baths. Passengers would be given Edwardian costumes so the whole experience would feel like they were back in 1912. No modern conveniences like television or cell phones would be allowed. But don’t book your ticket to New York just yet. Clive Palmer has a reputation for starting outrageous (反常的,令人吃惊的) projects and not seeing them through. For instance, a few years ago he created a company to build a zeppelin (齐柏林飞艇), but it never happened. If the same thing happens with Titanic II, it could leave some people disappointed — more than 40 000 people have asked for a ticket on Titanic II’s first voyage, including some who have offered to pay more than a million dollars for a first-class cabin on board. 21.The difference between Titanic II and the original Titanic is ________. A.Titanic II is not for sailing purpose B.Titanic II is safer than the original Titanic C.Titanic II is larger than the original Titanic D.Titanic II hasn’t any features of the Edwardian design 22. Passengers on the Titanic II are expected to ________. A.watch the movie Titanic through television B.enjoy the convenience of modern means of communication C.enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings of being back in 1912 D.experience a voyage on a ship with coal-fired boilers and steam engines 23.It can be learned from the passage that ________. A.it’s too expensive to travel on Titanic II B.few people prepare to travel on Titanic II C.Titanic II still leaves many safety problems to be solved D.whether Titanic II will be smoothly on its voyage is still unknown 24. Which of the following is the probable title of the passage? A.An expensive voyage from England to the United States B.The first voyage of Titanic II C.Australian billionaire on mission to recreate Titanic D.The safety problems faced in the construction of Titanic II B The thrill of trying on a wedding dress is a cherished experience for many brides. Take it from Ruth Sullivan, who, at the age of 92, finally got that princess moment she had been longing for her entire life. The Frankfort, Kentucky native married her husband, Norman Sullivan, in Columbus, Ohio in the year 1946. World War II had ended, and there weren’t too many big weddings at that time, so she didn’t get to wear a grand white wedding dress, although they did spring for (付钱) a hotel stay to celebrate her wedding. Ruth enjoyed being together with her husband although they couldn’t spare any money for a pretty white wedding dress. Norman passed away in 2004. Throughout their 58-year marriage, Ruth always wondered, “What if?” “I really wanted to know if I would look pretty. It was something that I never got to do and I just wanted the experience of trying them on,” Sullivan tells us. Thanks to the help of Second Wind Dreams — a group whose goal is to change the concept of aging — and David’s Bridal, she enjoyed a fun-filled day trying on beautiful wedding gowns with her loved ones in attendance. “Our elders had lives and a story to tell. Some of them want to relive their past and some want to do something they never got to do — like Ruth wearing a wedding dress,” says Canice Beaty, the Managing Director of Second Wind Dreams. After trying on dresses, Sullivan and her “bridal party” were picked up and taken to a reception at the historic Glen Willis House, located in Frankfort. At Ruth’s wedding, her sister told her to put a dime(十分硬币) in her ring box so that it would be bless her marriage. At the time, no one had a dime, so they placed two nickels(五分镍币) in the ring box, and she still has them today. The highlight of the reception was when a ring box with a dime was brought out — there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Sullivan reflects on her emotional day: “I am overwhelmed (淹没在) at all that has come from this.” 25. What’s Ruth’s pity in her previous life? A.She didn’t celebrate her wedding. B.She didn’t take good care of her husband. C.She couldn’t live together with her husband. D.She didn’t wear a wedding dress when she got married. 26. What was the most touching part of Ruth’s reception? A.Ruth and her husband’s former experience B.the careful preparation made by the reception C.Ruth’s sister’s help for Ruth and her husband D.the story told by Ruth which happened during World War II 27. There’s a new viral music video (“病毒”音乐视频) on the Internet that’s getting millions of people dancing and laughing. Psy is a singer who created Gagnam Style, a music video which featured a catchy tune and interesting dance. The new music video called The Fox (What does the fox say?) has recently gone viral. At 123 000 000 views, it may even catch up to Gagnam Style. The video asks the question, “ What does the fox say?” It’s a good question. And it seems, at least according to the music video, there is no good answer. Actors in the video dress up like the animals they’re singing about. One of the brothers dresses up like a fox. There is a surprising and silly dance in the video that takes the viewer a bit off-guard. The video’s appeal is the song’s simple rhythm and catchy chorus(副歌). The makers of the video never expected the video to do well or even to be taken seriously. In fact, it started out as a joke. The song was written by two brothers from Norway, Vegard and Bard Ylvis ker. The brothers have their own late-night talk show in Norway. They thought the video would be so bad that it would give them something to talk about on their show. On their website, they say the video was “supposed to entertain a few Norwegians for three minutes — and that’s all.” But people started loving it. Some people say that once you listen to the delightfully silly song, you want to listen to it again and again. The brothers have been guests on some major North American talk shows. They say they’re happy about the success of their video, but they know that tomorrow something else could come along and be even bigger. 29. We can infer that Psy created a music video ________.
