Module 5 Newspapers and Magazines ‎ (建议用时:35分钟)‎ Ⅰ.阅读理解 A ‎(2020· 新疆维吾尔自治区适应性检测)Technology is forever changing the way we get our news. Most people now get a lot of their news on electronic devices, instead of traditional media, such as newspapers, television or radio. An increasing number of people also report turning to social media for information.‎ Now, there is a new technology that could greatly change the way we get the news: computer-created news readers. China has launched what it called the world’s first artificial intelligence, or AI news presenters.‎ The news readers, supported by machine learning technology, are based on two real life Chinese newsmen. One is able to present news broadcast in English; the other, in Mandarin Chinese. A report said machine learning was used to examine video images and sounds of the two newsmen. Similar technology has been used to create video products known as “deepfake videos”. A deepfake video is a video that looks real, but is electronically changed. Such videos can make people appear to say things they never said.‎ It’s said that the AI presenters will be a great improvement to the news team because they “can work 24 hours a day” on its website and on social media. One of the presenters even promised to “work tirelessly” to keep people informed. Some machine learning experts said the system showed off China’s latest progress in voice recognition, text to speech technology and data analysis.‎ Others wondered about the effects robots might have on employment and workers. Some people argued that only low level jobs requiring heavy labor will be easily replaced by robots. Others praised the technology as a way for companies to make money from lowcost labor machines.‎ Anyway, for its great potential, some businesses have experimented with similar technology for possible use in news operations.‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文主要介绍了人工智能新闻主播的相关内容。‎ ‎1.People now get information mainly from ________.‎ A.electronic devices B.traditional media 7‎ C.social media D.AI news presenters A 解析:细节理解题。根据第一段第二句中的“Most people now get a lot of their news on electronic devices”可知,人们现在主要从电子设备上获得信息。‎ ‎2.The author mentioned “deepfake” in Paragraph 3 because ________.‎ A.it was also artificial B.it was also developed by China C.it also used machine learning technology D.it also gained popularity and recognition C 根据第三段第三、四句“A report said machine learning was used...known as ‘deepfake videos’.” ‎ ‎3.What can we know about AI news presenters?‎ A.AI news presenters can only “speak” one language.‎ B.Not all the people are in favor of AI news presenters.‎ C.AI news presenters will soon replace human news readers.‎ D.AI news presenters can reflect the improvement in robot making.‎ B 根据第五段的内容,尤其是“Others wondered about the effects robots might have on employment and workers.” ‎ ‎4.What will probably be discussed in the following paragraph?‎ A.Further research on the technology.‎ B.Other advantages of the technology.‎ C.Principles the technology is based on.‎ D.Examples the technology is applied to.‎ D 根据第六段中的“some businesses have experimented with similar technology for possible use in news operations”可知,接下来的一段很可能讨论这种技术所应用的例子。‎ B ‎(2020·大连一模)‎ Rich as a King WilliamⅠ, who conquered England some 950 years ago, had wealth, power and an army. Yet although William was very rich by the standard of his time, he had nothing like a flush toilet(抽水马桶), paper towels, or a riding lawn mower(割草机). How did ‎ 7‎ he get__by?‎ History books are filled with wealthy people who were poor compared to me. I have storm windows, Croesus did not. Entire nations trembled before Alexander the Great, but he couldn’t buy cat food. Czar Nicholas lacked an electric saw.‎ Given how much better off I am than so many famous dead people, you’d think I’d be content. The trouble is that, like most people, I compare my wealth with that of living persons: neighbors, school classmates, and famous TV people. The greed I feel toward my friend Howard’s new kitchen is not reduced by the fact that no kings ever had a refrigerator with glass doors.‎ There is really no rising or falling standard of living. Over the centuries people simply find different things to feel sad about. You’d think that simply not having disease would put us in a good mood, but no, we want a hot bath too.‎ Of course, one way to achieve happiness would be to realize that even by today’s standards the things I own are pretty nice. My house is smaller than the houses of many investment bankers, but even so it has a lot more rooms that my wife and I can keep clean.‎ Besides, to people looking back at our era from a century or two in the future, these bankers’ fancy counter tops and my own worn Formica will seem equally shabby. I can’t keep up with my neighbors right now. ‎ ‎5.What does the underlined phrase “get by” in the first paragraph mean?‎ A.Succeed as a king.‎ B.Deal with complaints.‎ C.Live in a satisfactory way.‎ D.Get some extra money.‎ C 根据第三段第一句“Given how much better off I am than so many famous dead people, you’d think I’d be content.”,并结合对第一段第二句的理解:没有现代这些便利的生活设备,富有的威廉一世如何才能生活得称心如意呢? C。‎ ‎6.How many historical figures are mentioned to compare lives in the past and present?‎ A.3. B.4. C.5. William Ⅰ, Croesus, Alexander the Great和Czar Nicholas。‎ ‎7.According to the passage, the author intends to ________.‎ A.tell us to be content with life B.warn us to live in a simple way C.teach us to learn lessons from life D.encourage us to struggle for wealth A 解析:写作意图题。 ‎ ‎8.What’s the author’s attitude towards life?‎ A.Doubtful. B.Optimistic.‎ C.Uncaring. D.Cautious.‎ B 解析:观点态度题。根据最后两段,尤其是最后一段最后两句“I can’t keep up with my neighbors right now. But just wait.” ‎ Ⅱ.完形填空 ‎(2020·贵阳普通高中监测)The happy new mother asked eagerly to see her baby. However, when she looked at his tiny face, she was __1__.
