读题干,在题干中找到关键词“sea creature performances(海洋生物表演)”,再读文章,会发现第一个小标题下的“No visit to SeaWorld would be complete without watching one of the park’s signature animal shows. Witness the interaction between otters (水獭) and trainers at the Sea Lion and Otter Stadium.(去SeaWorld一定不能不观看这个公园内标志性的动物表演。 由其中的“You will enjoy four full hours of fishing time.” ‎ B Austin Perine, a four-year-old boy, discovered that sympathy for the less fortunate can produce superhuman results.‎ Once Austin’s father, TJAustin, took Austin to the Firehouse Ministries, a local shelter that provides housing, food, and other services for homeless men. As they drove by the redbrick building, they saw a group of 25 homeless men standing on the street corner. “Dad, they look sad,” Austin said. “Can we take them some food and make them smile?”‎ That day, Austin used his allowance to buy each man a Burger King sandwich and handed the food out himself.‎ Seeing what their presence meant to the men at the ministry, Austin and TJ returned the next week. After he returned every week for five weeks, word of Austin’s acts of kindness spread through social media and national news outlets. Burger King jumped aboard, agreeing to donate $1,000 a month for an entire year toward the cause. Soon, churches and shelters across the country began inviting Austin to come and distribute food in other poor areas. Whereas before Austin and TJ could feed 25 to 50 people at a time, now, thanks to corporate and community support, they can feed 800 to 2,000 people at once.‎ But Austin isn’t just filling bellies. He’s improving the lives of those he meets. On that first trip to Firehouse Ministries, TJ and Austin talked to a man named Raymont. The respect Austin gave 41-year-old Raymont touched the man. TJ helped Raymont ‎ collect all the credentials(资格) he needed to get a driver’s license. The license helped Raymont get a job. And with money in the bank, he was able to rent his own apartment. All that was made possible because a little boy took the time to care.‎ ‎4. Why did Burger King agree to donate?‎ A. Austin invited it to.‎ B. It wanted to be famous.‎ C. Churches and shelters encouraged it to.‎ D. It was affected by Austin’s acts of kindness.‎ ‎5. What does the underlined word in paragraph 4 mean?‎ A. give out B. spread out C. send goods D. sort out ‎6. What happened to Raymont after meeting Austin?‎ A. He could drive.‎ B. He made a big fortune.‎ C. He could make a living by himself.‎ D. He bought an apartment of his own.‎ ‎7. What is Austin’s greatness?‎ A. He wants to fill bellies.‎ B. He makes the homeless live better.‎ C. He shows little concern for the poor.‎ D. He likes buying sandwiches for the homeless.‎ ‎【答案】4. D 5. A 6. C 7. 由第三段中的“That day, Austin used his allowance to buy each man a Burger King sandwich and handed the food out himself.” A. give out分发,发出;B. spread out展开,铺开;C. send goods发送货物;D. sort out挑选出,分类。选项中give out与hand out为同义词。故选A。 一种是通过连词because,as等各种从句或介词短语in order to、because of等方式给出。 ‎ C Millions of Americans are living in areas at high-risk of river flooding, many of whom are completely unaware of the danger.‎ While the risk of coastal flooding from extreme storms and rising seas rightly ‎ attracts plenty of attention, Americans are being urged to look inland for a similar threat receiving far less recognition: river flooding. New research conducted by the University of Bristol has shown that as many as 41 million Americans are highly at risk from river floods – more than three times the number previously estimated – with real estate (住宅区) in areas such as Louisiana, Florida, Arizona and West Virginia found to be especially at threat.‎ For the first time, it has been possible to produce super quality flood risk maps that cover the whole United States, while previous Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps cover no more than 60 per cent of the country. The fine details provided by these new maps also makes it possible to predict the powerful effects of flooding on many smaller streams than before, thus raising concerns about the increasing number of people potentially threatened.‎ ‎“We were all surprised by how many Americans we find are exposed to flooding from rivers,” says Oliver Wing, from the University of Bristol’s School of Geographical Sciences. “It’s particularly worrisome considering that most of these people aren’t even aware of the risk they face.”‎ Additionally, there is the possibility that this lack of awareness means construction in high-risk river flooding areas will continue to rise, despite the threats. Estimates (估量) suggest that projected population growth, continued urbanization trends (城市化趋势), and the unpredictable threats caused by climate change will leave over 60 million Americans vulnerable (易受攻击的) to a 100-year flood by the middle of the century. ‘All of this highlights the urgent need for large areas of floodplain and flood risk management planning,’ adds Wing.‎ ‎8. Which paragraph best supports “the risk of river flooding”?‎ A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2.‎ C. Paragraph 3. D. Paragraph 4.‎ ‎9. Which is true about the new maps?‎ A. They cover over 60 per cent of the United States.‎ B. They contain details of the flooding effects.‎ C. They make the river flooding under control.‎ D. They make the threats of rivers clear for the public.‎ ‎10. What can we know from the last two paragraphs?‎ A. People need management planning against the risk.‎ B. Most people are aware of the risk of the river flooding.‎ C. Climate change is the main cause of river flooding.‎ D. The threats keep people from construction near river flooding areas.‎ ‎11. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. A research on the risk of river flooding.‎ B. The rising threats of coastal flooding.‎ C. Unpredictable threats caused by climate change.‎ D. Reasons for people’s unawareness of the risk.‎ ‎【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11. 由文章第二段中的“New research conducted by the University of Bristol has shown that as many as 41 million Americans are highly at risk from river floods – more than three times the number previously estimated”可知,布里斯托大学新的研究表明:有四千一百万的美国人生活在高风险的河水泛滥区---比之前预估数字的三倍还多。 并由最后半句“thus raising concerns about the increasing number of people potentially threatened”可知,这也使得对越来越多的处于潜在危险区的人们的关注增多。 由最后一句中的“All of this highlights ‎ the urgent need for large areas of floodplain and flood risk management planning”可知,人们急需对泛滥区域与泛滥风险的管理。故选A。 A。‎ D More than 20 years ago, a skeleton called Little Foot turned up in a South African cave. The nearly complete skeleton was a member of the human family. Now researchers have freed most of the skeleton from its stony shell and analyzed the fossils (化石) and they say 3.67-million-years-old Little Foot belonged to a unique species.‎ Researcher Ronald Clarke and his colleagues think Little Foot belonged to A. Prometheus (普罗米修斯南猿). Clarke works at the university of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa. He studies fossilized humans and our relatives. Their foundings, published in four papers, have suggested the species A.Prometheus might have existed. Clarke has believed in that species for more than a decade, he found the first Little Foot’s remains in a storage box of fossils in 1994. People began digging out the rest of the skeleton in 1997.‎ Many other researchers instead argue that Little Foot likely belonged to a different species, which is known as A.africanus Researcher Raymond Dart first identified A.africanus in 1924. He was studying the skull (头颅骨) of an ancient youngster called the Taung Child. Since then, people have turned up hundreds more A. africanus fossils in South African caves. Those include Sterkfontein, where Little Foot was found.‎ The braincase is the part of the skull that holds the brain. And researchers found a partial braincase that Dart thought belonged to a different species in Makapansgat, one of those other caves. In 1948, Dart called this other species A. Prometheus, but he changed his mind after 1955. Instead, he said that braincase and another fossil at Makapansgat belonged to A.africanus. There was no A. Prometheus after all, he ‎ concluded.‎ Clarke and his colleagues want to bring back the rejected species. They say Little Foot’s distinctive skeleton, an adult female that is at least 90 percent complete, is solid evidence for it.‎ ‎12. Which of the following beliefs did Ronald Clarke hold?‎ A. A. Prometheus wasn’t a human species.‎ B. Little Foot didn’t belonged to the human family.‎ C. Little Foot was one member of A. Prometheus.‎ D. A. Prometheus lived over four million years ago.‎ ‎13. What can we learn about A. Prometheus? ‎ A. There wasn’t much evidence of it.‎ B. Its fossil were first discovered in 1948.‎ C. It’s a species that’s believed to have existed.‎ D. The Taung Child wasn’t its first known member.‎ ‎14. What’s Dart’s most probable attitude toward the existence of A. Prometheus now?‎ A. Uncertain B. Supportive C. Uninterested D. Disapproving ‎15. What is the best title for the text?‎ A. The Skeleton Little Foot Causing a Big Debate B. Two New Human Species Accidentally Discovered.‎ C. More Human Fossils Being Dug Up In Sterkfontein.‎ D. Little Foot From Makapansgat Drawing New Attention.‎ ‎【答案】12. C 13. C 14. D 15. 由第二段首句“Researcher Ronald Clarke and his colleagues think Little Foot belonged to A. Prometheus”可知,科学家Ronald Clarke和他的同事们认为Little Foot属于普罗米修斯南猿。 由第二段中的“Their foundings, published in four papers, have suggested the species A.Prometheus might have existed.” 由第四段最后一句“There was no A. Prometheus after all, he concluded.” A. 故选A。 故选A。 ‎ You are changing. The universe around you is changing. Just because something was right for you in the past doesn’t mean it still is. You realize there are deliberate(微妙的)changes you need to make to keep up with the changes happening ‎ around you and within you. ___16___.‎ Be yourself and fully control your life. ___17___. You are in full control of your life so long as you claim it and own it. Because if you want to change, if you want to let go and move on with your life, you’re the only person who can make it happen.‎ Distance yourself for a while.
