B The sign in the window read "Carl's Coffee Shoppe," spelled the old-fashioned way. Hallie shook her head and wondered how many times she had suggested an alternative. She entered the shop and saw only one person. "I could help with the books, Dad",Hallie offered, "There's not much you could do." Her father signed. "How about if you clean the counters instead?" His statement made her feel like a little girl instead of a senior in high school. Hallie sprayed some cleanser and ran a cloth over the worn countertops, After she had washed a few of the old eggshell-colored cups, she began her homework. At closing time, Hallie's parents sat beside her. "You know the shop has not been profitable lately," Mr. Rhodes began. "We need to decide if it is even worth keeping it open." "We're going to visit Uncle Harold over spring vacation." Mrs, Rhodes continued. "He can look over the books and tell us what our options are. You and Aunt Tess will run the shop for the week." By spring vacation Hallie was ready for an adventure. Hallie's parents gave some instructions, and said good-bye. Hallie stared absently out the window at the passersby: young people on their way to work, and kids on their school vacation. They were not the same people that her grandpa Carl had served. Suddenly Hallie had an idea. She confided in Aunt Tess, who approved. The two eagerly set to work. At the end of the week, Hallie was coming out from the kitchen when she saw her parents standing in the shop, confused. She smiled as her parents stared at the teens around the counter and the young families seated at the tables. "Welcome back!" Hallie swept her arms to present the restaurant's cheerful new decoration. Bright, attractive coverings spread over the tables, and modern posters hung on the walls, while, colorful mismatched dishes contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. " I brought board games from home," Hallie added excitedly, "and the bookstore down the street donated the posters. When we talked to our friends about what we were doing, they were happy to give us some dishes." Hallie held her breath as she waited for her parents' reaction. "Everyone certainly seems to like the changes," noted Mrs. Rhodes. "Speaking of changes," Mr. Rhodes said, "I see our name has changed, too." "Do you mind? I changed our name to 'Come-Back Coffeehouse' to make the shop sound welcoming, as in 'Please come back again'..." A smile spread across her father's face. “ The new name is fitting.” Thanks to you, this place certainly has made a comeback!" 24. What can we infer from the first two paragraphs? A. Hallie trusted Aunt Tess very much. B. Hallie took charge of the books for her parents. C. Hallie's parents didn't take her opinions seriously. D. Hallie's parents didn't count on the shop for a living. 25. What did Hallie do after her parents left? A. She advertised for the shop. B. She made the shop more attractive. C. She invited her friends to the shop. D. She turned the shop into an activity center. 26. What kind of girl is Hallie? A. Smart and helpful. B. Modest and out-going. C. Optimistic and generous. D. Faithful and hardworking. 27. What can be used as the best title of the passage? A. The Old-fashioned Coffeehouse B. The Coffeehouse run by Hallie and her Aunt Tess C. The Newly-built Coffeehouse D. The Come-back Coffeehouse C Honesty varies. First there’s self-honesty. Is what people see the real article or do you appear through smoke and mirrors? I find that if I try to be something I’m not, I feel unsure of myself and take out a part from my PBA(personal bank account). I love how singer Judy Garland put it, “Always be a first-class version of yourself, instead of a second-class version of somebody else.” Then there’s honesty in our actions. Are you honest at school, with your parents, and with your boss? If you’ve ever been dishonest, I think we all have, try being honest, and notice how whole it makes you feel. Remember, you can’t do wrong and feel right. This story by Jeff is a good example of that: In my second year of study, there were three kids in my math class who didn’t do well. I was really good at it. I would charge them three dollars for each test that I helped them pass. I’d write on a little piece of paper all the right answers, and hand them off. At first I felt like I was making money, kind of a nice job. I wasn’t thinking about how it could hurt all of us. After a while I realized I shouldn’t do that anymore, because I wasn’t really helping them. They weren’t learning anything, and it would only get harder down the road. Cheating certainly wasn’t helping me. It takes courage to be honest when people all around you are getting away with cheating on tests, lying to their parents, and stealing at work. But, remember, every act of honesty is a deposit into your PBA and will build strength. 28. The underlined part “appear through smoke and mirrors” in the first paragraph means''_____''. A. to be honest B. to be unreal C. to be creative D. to be clear 29. Which of the following can best explain Judy Garland’s words? A. Don’t copy others or you can’t be the first class. B. Make efforts to be the first instead of the second. C. Be your true self rather than follow others. D. Don’t learn from others unless they’re excellent. 30. What does the author expect to show by Jeff’s story? A. One should realize the wrong in his bad deeds. B. A bad thing can be turned into a good one. C. Helping others cheat can do good to nobody but yourself. D. Honesty can be of great help. 31. In the last paragraph the author mainly wants to express ________. A. one must be brave to be honest B. it’s difficult to be honest when others are not C. one should be honest when making a deposit D. honesty in one’s actions can help him in the future D The sharing economy, represented by companies like Airbnb or Uber, is the latest fashion craze. But many supporters have overlooked the reality that this new business model is largely based on escaping regulations and breaking the law. Airbnb is an internet-based service that allows people to rent out spare rooms to strangers for short stays. Uber is an internet taxi service that allows thousands of people to answer ride requests with their own cars. There are hundreds of other such services. The good thing about the sharing economy is that it promotes the use of underused resources. Millions of people have houses or apartments with empty rooms, and Airbnb allows them to profit from these rooms while allowing guests a place to stay at prices that are often far less than those charged by hotels. Uber offers prices that are competitive with standard taxi prices and their drivers are often much quicker and more trustworthy. But the downside of the sharing economy has gotten much less attention. Most cities and states both tax and regulate hotels, and the tourists who stay in hotels are usually an important source of tax income. But many of Airhnb’s customers are not paying the taxes required under the law. Airbnb can also raise issues of safety for its customers and trouble for hosts' neighbors. Hotels are regularly inspected to ensure that they are not fire traps and that they don't form other risks for visitors. Airbnb hosts face no such inspections. Since Airbnb is allowing people to escape taxes and regulations, the company is simply promoting thefts. Others in the economy will lose by bearing an additional tax burden or being forced to live next to an apartment unit with a never-ending series of noisy visitors. The same story may apply to Uber. Uber is currently in disputes over whether its cars meet the safety and insurance requirements imposed on standard taxis. Also, if Uber and related services flood the market, they could harm all taxi drivers' ability to earn a minimum wage. This downside of the sharing needs to be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean the current tax and regulatory structure is perfect. 32. What is the positive thing about the sharing economy? A. It makes use of spare resources. B. It is beyond regulations. C. It is a global trend. D. It brings in modest profits. 33. What is the problem with Airbnb customers according to the passage? A. They are not regularly inspected. B. They are likely to commit thefts. C. They are not allowed to escape taxes. D. They may disturb hosts’ neighbours. 34. What is the argument over Uber according to the passage? A. Whether it lowers customers' expenses. B. Whether it provides reliable services. C. Whether it guarantees customers' safety. D. Whether it can compete with standard taxis. 35. What will be talked about in the following paragraphs? A. Existing regulations and laws. B. Necessary improvements of current laws. C. Further development of Airbnb and Uber. D. More downsides of Airbnb and Uber. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Deal with Being Taken for Granted From an early stage in your life, you are taught to respect others, and do kind things for them. However, in some cases, people begin to take advantage of your kind nature, expecting more from you. 36 If you feel as if there are people in your life who take you for granted, it’s time to protect yourself. Know that you have the right to feel respected. Social and cultural pressures may encourage you to believe that it’s rude to say “no” to others when they ask you for things. You may also have been taught to feel that your work is less valuable than others’ and does not deserve acknowledgment. 37 But everyone has the right to be respected and appreciated, and it isn’t wrong to want to be treated that way. Identify what has changed in the relationship. If you feel taken for granted, it may be because you once felt valued by the person who is now taking you for granted. It might also be due to the knowledge that you should be appreciated but actually you are not. 38 It can also help you find a solution for the relationship. 39 You know that you don’t want to feel taken for granted. But what do you want? It will be hard to see any change in your situation if you feel vague dissatisfaction but have no clear ideas on what would improve it. 40 Once you know the change about the relationship clearly, you’ll be able to take better action to get you there. A. Think about what you want. B. Practice what you want to say. C. These things can lead to you feeling taken for granted. D. Try making a list of things that you would like to see the change about the relationship. E. If you feel taken for granted by others, you need to communicate that to the other person. F. Such people may repeatedly ask you for favors without returning any favors or showing you any respect. G. Whatever the cause is, identifying what has changed your communications with the other person can help you feel better. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后所给各题的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 I still remember an old lady, a customer on the paper route in my hometown when I was 12 years old.
