But in Len-‎ wood Haddock’s case, being blind works to his advantage. His trained sensitive hands are aware of every step 〇f the complex process. Since beginning his craft in 1986, Lenwood has woven about 145,000 perfect hammocks.‎ Now 61, Lenwood lost his sight at age 18, during a hunting accident. “ My whole working career has been blind,” he says. He first found a job as a woodworker, but when that organization closed, he was connected with Hatteras Hammocks.‎ In time, Lenwood got into a good working rhythmand fund he had a knack for the job. At first he worked at the company, but after a year Lenwood moved his operation to the home workshop where he’d worked for 10 years during his woodworking days. There, he created dozens of hammocks each week in a variety of sizes. One day, he realized the step counter on his phone recorded him walking eight miles that day without ever leaving his shop.‎ The process of weaving a hammock involves making and catching hundreds of loops (圈).A single missed stitch(针)creates a hole that can widen and make the hammock uncomfortable or even dangerous to use. Experienced weavers miss loops sometimes, but to his company’s knowledge, Lenwood has never turned in a hammock with even one dropped stitch.‎ Since Lenwood began witii Hatteras Hammocks 30 years ago, the company has developed into the world’s largest maker and seller of hammocks, all built by hand. Through all the changes, Lenwood’s routine has changed little. With every hammock, Lenwood devotes himself to producing perfection. “I’m not sure how sighted people doit,” h1admits.‎ 21. ‎ What does the passage say about Lenwood’s working career?‎ A. ‎ He lost his first job after a hunting accident.‎ B. ‎ His blindness has made him skilled at his work.‎ C He has been blind since he began to work.‎ A. Another stitch will make it up to form a big loop in place.‎ B. ‎ A hole will appear to make the hammock uncomfortable.‎ C. ‎ There will be more loops than needed on the hammock.‎ D. ‎ The whole hammock will be ruined and has to be remade.‎ 21. ‎ What do we knowabout Lenwood’ attitude to his work?‎ A. ‎ He’s serious about his work, knowing howpeople like it.‎ B. ‎ He wants to improve the hammocks with his skills.‎ C. ‎ He’s helpful and spreads his knowledge in the company.‎ D. ‎ He is devoted to making his hammock to make it perfect.‎ C Remembering Martin Luther King forces us to admit how many miles ahead there are. Yet even during the darkest days, King’s most memorable words, “I have a dream” are hopeful. He refused to accept the way things were and instead focused on what “one day” could be. And then he took it further and asked us to walk with him,‎ saying that hope was the only candle that couldn’ be blown out.‎ For tiie past few weeks, I have been feeling powerless and worried about where things are heading, and I knowthat I am not alone. While I keep thinking things will get better, so far things only seemto be getting worse.‎ But I knowI need to get rid of this fear. Remembering Martin Luther King is helping.‎ It’s helping because I have a dreamtoo. And right now, I want to be around others who are holding onto their hopes and talking about their own dreams for more peaceful and better days ahead. And with that thought comes a growing sense that we can begin turning this around by simply helping each other stay hopeful. And with even a little bit of hope, we’ll discover that no matter how dark this night feels, by standing together and taking even the smallest of steps towards a better tomorrow, maybe we’ll see that dawn was closer than we thought. Seeing children dren withi cancer. They began their project by 45 a stand with a box full of beanies. In two days they had sing a simple message of a hopeful future shifted my focus towards the pDsilDilities of tomorrow.‎ 21. The team assessed the children to determine whether they had a “ growth mind-‎ set”,believing they can work harder to get smarter,or a “fixed mindset”,believing that their intelligence is unable to change. They then asked the children to complete a fast-paced computer accuracy task while their brain activity was recorded. During the recording, researchers noted that brain activity stopped wit!iin a half-second after making a mistake,as children became aware of t!ieir error and paid closer attention to what went wrong. The larger the brain response was,the more the child focused on the error.‎ Based on the data they collected, the researchers concluded that children with a “growth mindset” were much more likely to have a larger brain response after making a mistake, and in turn were more likely to improve their performance by paying closer attention to the task after making an error.‎ For parents, the lessons are clear; For starters, don’ pay compliments that suggest tiiat intelligence is fixed.‎ If a child hands you an A test, don’t say,“ You’re so smart!” Instead say,“ Wow,that studying really paid off!” or “You clearly mastered this material!” Note the effort, not the intelligence.‎ Second, focus on using errors to worl^ toget!ier and learn. Many parents and teachers shy away from addressing a child’ mistakes, telling them “It’s OK,you’ll get it the next time,” without giving them the opportunity to figure out what went wrong. Instead,it’s better to tell the child that mistakes happen, and to pay attention and work to figure out where and howthey made the mistake.‎ 32. ‎ What’s the influence of telling kids they’re smart?‎ A. ‎ They may feel too proud to make any progress.‎ B. ‎ They may feel all t!ieir efforts are of great use.‎ C. ‎ They may feel intelligence is fixed at birt!i.‎ D. ‎ They may pay attention to their mistakes.‎ 33. Howwould children with a “fixed mindset” react to their mistakes in the study?‎ A. Their brain activity would realize the mistakes minutes after making them.‎ ‎‎A. ‎ They would notice and correct the mistakes a minute after making them.‎ A. ‎ They had a larger brain resj^onse and would pay attention to their mistakes.‎ B. They would be less attentive to their mistakes and less likely to improve.‎ 32. What advice does the author offer to parents about a child’ mistake?‎ A. Get the child to think about what mistake he has made.‎ B. Stress the efforts he has made and tell him things will be OK.‎ C. Praise the child for the progress rat!ier than focus on the mistake.‎ D. ‎ Tell t!ie children that intelligence improves wit!i ever effort.‎ 33. ‎ What’s the main idea of the passage?‎ A. ‎ Ways to deal witii a child’ performance at school.‎ B. ‎ Correct response to your kid’s progress and mistakes.‎ C. ‎ Reflection on children’s intelligence and develoment.‎ D. ‎ The challenge of responding to children’s mistakes.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据 内容,从 后的选项中选出能填人空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ You can easily know where you’l be going by the company you keep.
