I was not sure about the future or my place in it.‎ I met a man there, a physician(医师), and became friends with him. He slowly began building me up, encouraging me to be more confident, to look outside the immediate(目前的)circle of my life and to see a future I could never quite believe.‎ First he helped me accept myself and see my worth and then he encouraged me to take 1 or 2 college classes. I did well so he pushed a little asking me where ‎ I wanted to be in 10 years and what I wanted my life to become. Until he brought it up, I hadn't thought about it much. I had a job and I was fine. But he made me long for a different world, one with questions waiting to be answered, adventures waiting to be experienced and people waiting to be seen.‎ I went to college and finally realized my dream of getting accepted into a physician assistant training program. Unfortunately it was very expensive and even with loans. I didn’t have the money to go. My dream was slipping away when this wonderful man took me out after work one evening, bought me a beer and offered to help me pay for my college education. Furthermore, he did it without asking for anything in return.‎ Years later, I asked him "Why?” He said, "Because I knew you could be more than you were and because once when I wasn’t sure I could succeed and didn’t have the money for school, someone did it for me.”‎ ‎24. Someone else did the same thing for the physician before.‎ C I have been continuously against feeding a baby regularly. As a doctor, mother and scientist in child development I believe there is nothing to recommend it, from the baby’s point of view. Mothers, doctors and nurses and so on have no idea of where a baby’s blood sugar level lies. All we know is that a low level is harmful to brain development and makes a baby easily annoyed. In this state, the baby is difficult to calm down and sleep is impossible. The baby asks for attention by crying and searching for food with its mouth.‎ It is not just unkind but also dangerous to say a four-hourly feeding timetable will make a baby satisfied. The first of the experts to advocate(提倡) a strict clock-watching timetable was Dr. Frederic Truby King who was against feeding in the night. I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous. Baby feeding shouldn’t follow a timetable set by the mum. What is important is feeding a baby in the best way, though it may cause some inconvenience in the first few weeks.‎ Well, at last we have copper-bottomed research that supports demand feeding and points out the weaknesses of strictly timed feeding. The research finds out that babies who are fed on demand do better at school at age 5,7,11 and 14, than babies fed according to the clock. By the age of 8,their IQ scores are four to five percent higher than babies fed by a strict timetable.. This research comes from Oxford and Essex University using a sample(样本)of 10,419 children born in the early 1990s,taking account of parental education, family income, a child’s sex and age, the mother’s health and feeding style. These results don’t surprise me.‎ I hope this research will put an end to advocating strictly timed baby feeding practices. Actually,it makes sense to feed baby according to their demand.‎ ‎28. What does the author think about Dr. King?‎ A. He is strict. B. He is unkind.‎ C. He has the wrong idea. D. He sets a timetable for mothers.‎ ‎29. The word copper -bottomed in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to______.‎ A. basic B. reliable C. surprising D. interesting ‎30. What does the research tell us about feeding a baby on demand?‎ A. The baby will sleep well. B. The baby will have its brain harmed.‎ C. The baby will have a low blood sugar level.‎ D. The baby will grow to be wiser by the age of 8.‎ ‎31.The author supports feeding the baby .‎ A. whenever itwants food B. every four hours C. in the night D. according to its blood sugar level D An international study of more than 13,000 adults found that many people say modern technology has affected relations with their partners. Almost 40 percent of those questioned said their partners paid more attention to their mobile devices than to them.‎ The research included both old and new relationships. Thirty-three percent of those asked reported that they had to compete against a mobile device for attention on a first date.‎ Obviously, we have as much love for our digital devices as for the people we love. The survey found that adults spend almost equal amounts of time online at home as they do interacting directly. And a lot of married couples, friends and family members argue about time spent on mobile devices.‎ Rules or time limits on a device might be good, in theory. However, the survey found that 45 percent of those questioned do not set rules. Another 45 percent said they got into arguments about how much they are on their phones when spending time with loved ones. The lack of social rules about digital behavior might be the result of the newness of the issue.‎ Past generations did not have the technologies. In this situation, our elders know nothing. In fact, the knowledge and ability is moving towards the youngest generation that's using the technology because they're the ones bounding forward fearlessly, and finding out what ways they can get in trouble.‎ That trouble may include the sharing of sensitive information. The research found nearly 30 percent of couples share passwords to social media sites. This could be a problem when relationships end.‎ The study advises that people step away from electronic devices to truly connect with other people. Understand the value of distancing yourself from your device and allow yourself to be engaged with that person that means the most to you.‎ ‎32. What did the study find about modern technology?‎ A. People depend too much on it. B. It breaks relations between partners.‎ C. Partners need it to develop relations. D. It has a bad effect on human relations.‎ ‎33. What's the problem with the digital device?‎ A. It takes up too much time. B. It is dangerous to play.‎ C. It causes tiredness in married couples. D. It takes away all love from loved ones.‎ ‎34. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?‎ A. People disagree with limiting mobileuse. ‎ B. Rules need to be made to limit mobile use.‎ C. The majority of users set rules to use a device. ‎ D. More and more people will use phones wisely.‎ ‎35. What can be the best title for the text?‎ A. We Can't Live Without a Cell Phone. B. For Love, Put Aside the Phone!‎ C. How Powerful Electronic Devices Are! D. Your Time Will Be Killed by the Phone.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ It appears that there is never enough time for many senior school students.
