If you are not Britain or a citizen of the European Community(欧共体), you must fill out a special form before your passport is examined. This form is called a landing card and should be given to you during the flight to London.‎ After landing, follow the ARRIVALS signs. Make sure you are in the right channel when you reach Passport Control. There is one channel for holders of European Community Passports, and a second channel marked “Other Passports”.‎ Baggage Reclaim Area(取行李处)‎ After passing through the Passport Control, follow the signs to the Baggage Reclaim Area. If you have luggage which is carried in the aircraft hold, it will be delivered to you in the Baggage Reclaim Area. Look for the sign with your flight number. If you have only hand luggage, go directly through the Baggage Reclaim Area to the Customs.‎ Customs All passengers must pass Customs after Passport Control. There is a choice of two channels: Green and Red. If you have nothing to declare, go through the Green Channel. If you are not sure about your Duty Free allowance(免税限额) or if you have something to declare, go through the Red Channel. Information about Duty Free allowance can be found on special notice boards in the Baggage Reclaim Area. You should study this information carefully whether you are going through the Red Channel or not. Please note that if you go through the Green Channel, you may be stopped and asked to open your luggage for inspection.‎ ‎21. All passengers arriving at Heathrow from outside Britain ______.‎ A. must go through either Passport Control or Custom B. must go through Customs, but not Passport Control C. must go through Passport Control and Customs D. don’t have to be examined ‎22. At Heathrow when reaching Passport Control .‎ A. all passengers go through the same channel B. passengers of the European Community and those from other countries go through different channels C. British people and passengers from other countries go through different channels D. All European passengers go through the channel ‎23. If you have only hand luggage, __________.‎ A. you may go through the Baggage Reclaim Area to customs B. you should go to the Baggage Reclaim Areas C. it isn’t necessary for you to go through the Baggage Reclaim Area D. it isn’t necessary for you to do anything ‎24. If you have duty free goods, __________.‎ A. you don’t have to go through the Green Channel B. you may go through the Green Channel C. you must go through the Red Channel D. you should go through both Green and Red Channel B Many United States companies have made the search for legal protection from import competition into a major line of work. Since 1980, the United States International Trade Commission(ITC) has received about 280 complaints alleging damage from imports that benefit from subsidies(补贴) by foreign governments. Another 340 charge that foreign companies “dumped” their products in the United States at “less than fair value”. Even when no unfair practices are claimed, the simple claim that an industry has been injured by imports is sufficient grounds to seek relief(救济).‎ Contrary to the general impression, this request for import relief has hurt more companies than it has helped. As corporations begin to function globally, they develop a complicated web of marketing, production, and research relationships. The complexity of these relationships makes it unlikely that a system of import relief laws will meet the strategic needs of all the units under the same parent company. Internationalization increases the danger that foreign companies will use import relief laws against the very companies the laws were designed to protect. Suppose a United States-owned company establishes an overseas plant to manufacture a product while its competitor makes the same product in the United States. If the competitor can prove injury from the imports—and that the United States company received a subsidy from a foreign government to build its plant abroad—the United States company’s products will be uncompetitive in the United States, since they would be subject to duties.‎ Perhaps the most shameful case occurred when the ITC investigated allegations(控诉) that Canadian companies were injuring the United States salt industry by dumping rock salt, used to deice roads. The bizarre aspect of the complaint was that a foreign conglomerate(联合企业) with United States operations was crying for help against a United States company with foreign operations. The “United States” company claiming injury was a unit of a Dutch conglomerate, while the “Canadian” companies included a unit of a Chicago firm that was the second-largest domestic producer of rock salt.‎ ‎25. The passage is chiefly concerned with ________.‎ A. arguing against the increased internationalization of US corporations B. recommending a uniform method for handling claims of unfair trade practices C. warning that the application of laws affecting trade frequently has unintended consequences D. advocating the use of trade restrictions for “dumped” products but not for other imports ‎26. What can be inferred about the minimal basis for a complaint to the ITC?‎ A. A foreign competitor is selling products in the US at less than fair market value.‎ B. A foreign competitor has greatly increased the volume of products shipped to the US.‎ C. The company requesting import relief has been banned from exporting products.‎ D. The company requesting import relief has been injured by the sale of imports in the US.‎ ‎27. Which of the following is most likely to be true of US trade laws?‎ A. They will eliminate the practice of “dumping” products in the US.‎ B. Those applied to international companies will help to gain more profits.‎ C. They will affect US trade with Canada more negatively than trade with other nations.‎ D. Those helping one unit within a parent company won’t necessarily help other units.‎ C Maru is a popular international star. Every day, millions of people watch his videos on the Internet. But there is something about Maru that may surprise you. He is a cat.‎ There are many famous Internet cats. Some cats are famous for their videos like Maru. The woman who owns Maru puts new videos on Youtube often. People love to see what Maru is doing. Another famous cat is called “Grumpy Cat”. Grumpy Cat looks as if she is angry all the time and she usually appears in pictures.‎ Pictures are a popular way cats exist (存在) on the Internet. Some are memes (an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture), like Grumpy Cat. These cat picture memes often include funny words. They use wrong words as if the cat is speaking in a strange form of English.‎ One of the most famous cat memes is called “I can has cheezburger”. The picture was the first on a website about cat memes. This website is even called “I can has cheezburger”. Ben Huh bought the small website in 2007. And today, it is part of a group of sites. He earns millions of dollars every year managing them.‎ But why do people on the Internet like cats so much? How can websites like these be successful? Some experts believe that cats amaze us. Often, it is very difficult to train a cat. So, when people see a cat do something amazing, they know it did the trick without training.‎ Or maybe people just love seeing cats on the Internet because cats are cute. We may never know the answer. But we do know one thing. Cats will be on the Internet for a long time. Matt Smith, who produces videos and pictures for the Internet, explains, “There will always be more cats on the Internet because so many people have cats. That means there is a lot of basic material for meme creation.”‎ ‎28. What do Maru and Grumpy Cat have in common?‎ A. They are Internet stars.‎ B. They seem to be always angry.‎ C. They belong to the same owner.‎ D. They usually appear in pictures.‎ ‎29. The website “I can has cheezburger” _____.‎ A. was a great success B. was set up by Ben Huh C. began as a place to share cat videos D. was the first website designed for cats ‎30. According to some experts, people on the Internet like cats because _____.‎ A. they’re cute and funny B. they’re friends of humans C. they train hard to please people D. they always surprise people in a natural way ‎31. What is Matt Smith’s attitude towards the future of cat memes?‎ A. Doubtful. B. Worried. C. Hopeful. D. Unclear.‎ D Everyone looks forward to progress, whether in one’s personal life or in the general society. Progress indicates a person’s ability to change the way he is living at the moment. Progress must lead a better way of doing things. All these, however, remain true only in so far as people want to accept technology and move forward by finding new and more efficient ways of doing things.‎ However, at the back of the minds of many people, especially those who missed the “good old days”, efficiency comes with a price. When communication becomes efficient, people are able to contact one another no matter where they are and at whatever time they wish to. The click of a button allows people miles apart to talk or to see each other without even leaving their homes. With the communication gadgets, such as mobile phones and ipads, people often do not take the effect to visit one another personally. A personal visit carries with it the additional feature of having to be in the person’s presence for as long as the visit lasts. We cannot unnecessarily excuse ourselves or turn the other person off.‎ With efficiency also comes mass production. Such is the nature of factories and the success of industrialization today. Factories have improved efficiency. Unskillful tasks are left to machines and products are better made and produced with greater accuracy than any human hand could ever have done. However, with the improvements in efficiency also comes the loss of the personal touch when making these products. For example, many handcrafts are now produced in a factory. Although this means that supply is better able to increase demand, now that the supply is quick and efficient, the demand might fall because mass production lowers the quality of the handicraft and it is difficult to find unique designs on each item.‎ Nevertheless, we must not commit the mistake of analyzing progress only from one point of view. In fact, progress has allowed tradition to keep up. It is only with progress and the invention of new technology that many old products can be brought back to their old state. New technology is required for old products to stay old.‎ It is people’s attitude towards progress that causes the type of influence that technology has on society. Technology is flexible. There is no fixed way of making use of it. Everything depends on people’s attitude. The worst effects of progress will fall on those who are unable to think again about their attitudes and views of society. When we accept progress and adapt it to suit our needs, a new “past” is created.‎ ‎32. According to Paragraph 1, progress can benefit people when they are willing to _______.‎ A. live a better life B. look for better methods C. accept technology and advance steadily D. change ways of living ‎33. The underlined word “gadgets” is closest in meaning to _______.‎ A. tools B. messages C. barriers D. skills ‎34. The author explains “efficiency comes with a price” by _______.‎ A. describing a process B. making classification C. following time order D. using examples ‎35. What can be concluded from the last paragraph?‎ A. Progress can suit the needs of daily life.‎ B. People review the past with great regret.‎ C. People’s attitude decides the use of technology.‎ D. Technology should be introduced in a fixed way.‎ 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 ‎ Whenever I hear a recording of John Denver singing “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” I find myself smiling, drawn to a love of the sun and outdoors I’ve had for decades as a Michigan native. Walking barefoot to the lake, playing shiftless in the sunlight, and breathing fresh air feel good. 36 ‎ Studies have found higher rates of high blood pressure among people with the lowest sun exposure. One reason may be due to nitric oxide, a gas whose production is stimulated when your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays. 37 Vitamin D, which sunlight helps your body produce, is also linked to better heart health. So walk outdoors for 15 to 30 minutes daily.‎ ‎38 Research on 280 volunteers there found that people had a reduced heart rate, and lower blood pressure when they walked through a forest than when they spent time in an urban area.‎ One of the consequences of modem society is that rarely is our body in direct contact with the ground. The earth has an electrical current. 39 Although “earthing” or “grounding” is considered alternative by mainstream medicine, research shows that the practice seems to be able to reduce heart disease risk. So, walk around barefoot whenever possible, let your backyard grass tickle your feet, and dig your toes into sandy beaches.‎ ‎40 A 2011 British review of 11 studies found that people who exercised outside generally reported more energy and less anger, tension, and depression—all factors contributing to heart attack—than those who worked out indoors.‎ A. Exercising indoors is another option.‎ B. It reduces both heart attack and stroke risks.‎ C. As a doctor, I can tell you they are also very good for your heart.‎ D. Direct contact with it may be a stabilizing force for good health.‎ E. In Japan, walking through forests for healing has become a popular practice.‎ F. Exercising outdoors may be more beneficial than working out indoors.‎ G. You’ll get greater health benefits exercising where it’s green.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用 (共两节,满分45分) ‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ On my granddaughter Jenifer’s 21st birthday, I sat with her at the DMV, waiting to renew her driving license.
