A Imagine someone who has spent the majority of their life sitting with a sign on the side of the road and that very person giving someone their last 20 dollars. That’s exactly what Marine Corps veteran (退伍军人)Johnny Bobbitt,34,did in October in Philadelphia. Bobbitt served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a paramedic (医务辅助人员)in Vance County, N. C. before he became homeless. Nobody knew how he got to where he was because he was discreet about that. One night in October, Bobbitt was sitting roadside with a sign in Philadelphia as usual, when Kate McClure of Florence Township, N. J. was driving home down Interstate 95 and ran out of gas. Scared and nervous, she got out of the car to head to the nearest gas station. As McClure was heading to the nearest gas station, she ran into Bobbitt and he told her to get back in the vehicle and lock the door. Minutes later, he appeared with a red gas can. He’d used his last $20 to buy her gas. After that unexpected meeting, McClure and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, who both live in New Jersey, visited Bobbitt several times to deliver gift cards, cash, snacks and toiletries. They then decided to create a fund-raising page so he wouldn't have to spend the holidays sleeping on the street. McClure started the GoFundMe page on November 10. With the page, the couple hoped to raise $10,000, enough money for his rent, a reliable vehicle and up to six months ’ expenses. Bobbitt's story ran in a local paper. By November 15, more than 10,000 local people had made donations through the GoFundMe page and more than $300,000 had been raised. On Thanksgiving, Bobbitt was resting in a hotel, his feet up on the bed, drawing up a grand plan for his new life, thanks to several thousand dollars raised to repay him for a good deed. 21.What does the underlined word “discreet” in paragraph 2 most probably mean? A.Doubtful. B.Cautious. C.Guilty. D.Optimistic. 22.McClure met Bobbitt when she______. A.couldn't find a gas station B.got to the way home C.couldn't unlock her car D.was in search of gas 23.It can be known from the text that_____. A.Bobbitt’s story obtained wide attention B.Bobbitt became world-famous overnight C.the GoFundMe page collected over $400,000 for Bobbitt D.the GoFundMe page was started to help people like Bobbitt 答案:BDA 解析: 21. Kate McClure of Florence Township, N. J. was driving home down Interstate 95 and ran out of gas". As McClure was heading to the nearest gas station, she ran into Bobbitt.可知,McClure 是在去 加油站寻找油时遇见 Bobbitt 的。故选 B。 22.推理判断题。根据文意第五段 Bobbitt’s story ran in a local paper.可知,McClure 是在一月十号達立募捐网页 的,他们原本期望帮助 Bobbm 募集一万美元,他的故事还上了当地的报纸, 截至十一月十五号,一万多名当地 人通过该网页进行了捐款,募集到的捐款超过了三十万美元。可知,Bobbitt 的故事引起了广泛的关注。故选 D。 23.推理判断题。根据文意第五段 Bobbitt’s story ran in a local paper.可知,McClure 是在一月十号達立募捐网页 的,他们原本期望帮助 Bobbm 募集一万美元,他的故事还上了当地的报纸, 截至十一月十五号,一万多名当地 人通过该网页进行了捐款,募集到的捐款超过了三十万美元。可知,Bobbitt 的故事引起了广泛的关注。故选 A。 B Nearly every week, we hear news about the latest successes and failures in driverless vehicles. But we hear little about how other industries are developing this same kind of technology. One industry heavily involved in researching and developing artificial intelligence, or AI, is agriculture. Companies are experimenting with high-tech tools that can help farmers save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals. One of the companies is ecoRobotix of Switzerland. It created a robot equipped with AI and cameras to identify all plants on a farm. The robot has four wheels to carry itself through the fields in search of weeds. Computer-controlled arms then lower and spray the weeds with small amounts of herbicide (除草剂). Company officials say the robot can fully operate on its own for up to 12 hours a day while being powered by the sun. It uses the same kind of sensor and positioning technology used to guide driverless vehicles. A farmer can also control the equipment through a smartphone. The co-founder of ecoRobotix, Aurélien Demaurex, says the farm robot can kill weeds with 20 times less herbicide than traditional methods. This is because the system uses exactly the right chemical amount in the exact place required to kill the weeds. Currently, farmers spread weed killers over massive areas to destroy unwanted plants. Another company developing farm robotics is California-based Blue River Technology. The company has a system called "See & Spray", which it claims was the world's first smart sprayer. The system—which is connected to the back of a tractor—is also equipped with AI to identify and chemically kill only the weeds. It can also spray chemicals on wanted plants to help them grow. Ben Chostner, vice-president of business development for Blue River Technology, explains in a company video that See & Spray technology uses the same deep learning methods used in facial recognition. "The first time the machine saw pigweed, it didn't know what kind of plant it was. But we taught it—by giving it tens of thousands of examples of that pigweed 一 and now it's an expert in pigweed." 24.How will AI benefit agriculture? A.It will fund agriculture research. B.It contributes to low-cost farming. C.It can avoid harmful chemicals. D.It frees all farmers from field work. 25.What do the products of the two companies have in common? A.They use recognition technology. B.They are powered by solar energy. C.They are connected with smartphones. D.They can help wanted plants grow rapidly. 26.What do Ben Chostner's words suggest about the robot? A.It is environmentally friendly. B.It is good at self-improving. C.It has the learning ability. D.It can track various plants. 答案:BAC 解析: 25.根据第一段最后一句"Companies are experimenting with high-tech tools that can help farmers save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals"可知,人工智能可以帮助农民节省时间和金钱,同时减 少使用对环境有害的化学物质。故选 B。 26.根据第二段第二句"It created a robot equipped with and cameras to identify all plants on a farm"以及第四段第 三句"The system—which is connected to the back of a tractor—is also equipped with AI to identify and chemically kill only the weeds"可知,两个公司的产品的共同点就是,它们都使用了识别技术,故选 A。 27.根据第四段最后一句"But we taught it—by giving it tens of thousands of examples of that pigweed—and now it's an expert in pigweed"可知,研发人员给这个机器人成千上万的苋的样本来教它,这个机器人现在在识别苋 方面是一个专家。由此可推知,Ben Chostner 意在表明该机器人有学习能力。故选 C。 C Brain health is key to successful ageing, and it involves several mental functions including memory, reasoning and planning. Memory defines who we are—without memory we have no past, cannot plan for the future and are unable to enjoy the present. Our reasoning and planning skills help us create and maintain healthy lifestyle habits that protect our bodies and minds. People are living much longer than ever before. Those born in 1900 would have been lucky to reach their 50th birthday. Today, life expectancy in many countries exceeds 80, but unfortunately age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's and diabetes can diminish quality of life. As we age, brain cells that normally fight off infection and repair tissue begin to attack healthy brain cells. This causes inflammation (炎症) and can lead to cognitive deficits and disease. But adopting healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating fish, getting a good night's sleep and doing physical exercise, can slow and even reverse the process. The typical 45-year-old has worse memory than the 25-year-old y and our brains will continue to decline if we do nothing to protect them. However, if we intervene (干预) early, we can slow the decline. It's always easier to protect a healthy brain than to try to repair damage once it is extensive. Although there is a genetic component to healthy ageing, lifestyle habits may be more critical than genes. The landmark MacArthur Studies of Successful Ageing showed that, on average, non-genetic factors are more important than genetics in determining how well and long we live, suggesting that we have more control than we realize over remaining healthy as we get older. 27.What does the underlined word "ageing" mean in the first paragraph? A.The process of getting old. B.Mental functions. C.Life expectancy. D.Healthy lifestyle. 28.What can we do to slow the decline of our brains? A.Enjoying the present. B.Staying in a good mood. C.Working as long as possible. D.Adopting healthy lifestyle habits. 29.What does MacArthur Studies of Successful Ageing suggest? A.Age-related diseases affect our quality of life. B.Genetic factors determine how well we live. C.We can do something to live better and longer. D.Sometimes we don9t know how to keep healthy. 30.What is the main idea of the text? A.Daily habits determine your longevity. B.You should protect your brains early. C.Good health results from right food. D.Body exercise also benefits mental health. 答案:ADCA 解析: 27.根据下文的叙述可知本文讲的是有关健康老龄化的问题,同时文章第五段中的"Although there is a genetic component to healthy ageing, lifestyle habits may be more critical than genes"也出现了"ageing",根据第五段内容 可知"ageing"在这里的意思是"老龄化过程",故答案为 A 项。 28.本题问的是为了减缓大脑衰退我们能做什么。根据文章第三段中的"brain cells... But adopting healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating fish, getting a good night's sleep and doing physical exercise, can slow and even reverse the process"可知我们可以通过养成健康的生活习惯来达到目的,故答案为 D 项。 29.本题问的是麦克阿瑟成功老龄化的研究表明了什么。根据文章最后一句"The landmark MacArthur Studies of Successful Ageing showed that, on average, non-genetic factors are more important than genetics in determining how well and long we live, suggesting that we have more control than we realize over remaining healthy as we get older"可知,这个研究表明随着年龄的增长,我们对保持健康的控制比我们认识到的要多。也就是说我们可 以做些事情让自己活得更好更久,所以答案为 C 项。 30.本题问的是文章的主旨大意。文中就健康老龄化这个问题做了探讨,指出日常生活习惯决定了个人的寿 命。故答案为 A 项。 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Every animal sleeps, but the reason for this has remained foggy. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month.31__________ One idea is that sleep helps us strengthen new memories. 32__________ We know that, while awake, fresh memories are recorded by reinforcing(加强) connections between brain cells, but the memory processes that take place while we sleep have been unclear. Support is growing for a theory that sleep evolved so that connections between neurons(神经元) in the brain can be weakened overnight, making room for fresh memories to form the next day. 33__________ Now we have the most direct evidence yet that he is right. 34__________ The synapses in the mice taken at the end of a period of sleep were 18 per cent smaller than those taken before sleep, showing that the connections between neurons weaken while sleeping. If Tononi’s theory is right, it would explain why, when we miss a night’s, we find it harder the next day to concentrate and learn new information — our brains may have smaller room for new experiences. Their research also suggests how we may build lasting memories over time even though the synapses become thinner. The team discovered that some synapses seem to be protected and stayed the same size. 35__________ "You keep what matters," Tononi says. A. We should also try to sleep well the night before. B. It’s as if the brain is preserving its most important memories. C. Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick. D. The processes take place to stop our brains becoming loaded with memories. E. That’s why students do better in tests if they get a chance to sleep after learning. F. "Sleep is the price we pay for learning," says Giulio Tononi, who developed the idea. G. Tononi’s team measured the size of these connections, or synapses, in the brains of 12 mice. Chinese Calligraphy is highly recommended, for Chinese calligraphy is the cultivation of one's morality as well as a window into Chinese profound culture. The course, a combination of theory and practice, is given by a retired but renowned master, Professor Zeng, and ranks number one among our school courses in terms of popularity. Actually, I took the course last term, and was impressed with his clear explanation and demonstration. Besides, the course includes weekly workshops for calligraphy lovers and learners to practice calligraphy and to communicate. So don't hesitate, and seize the chance! You won't be disappointed! Wish you a rewarding voyage of discovering the beauty of Chinese calligraphy! Yours sincerely, Li Hua 第二节:读后续写(满分 25 分) 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。 For many years, I had a recurring (重复出现的) dream. I was a little girl again, rushing about, trying to get ready for school. “Hurry, you’ll be late for school,”my mother called to me. “ I am hurrying, Mom! What did I do with my books?” Deep inside I knew where the dream came from. It was about some unfinished business in my life. As a kid, I loved everything about school. I loved books, teachers, tests and homework. Most of all I longed to someday march down the aisle (通道) to receive my diploma. That seemed more appealing even than getting married. But at 15, I had to drop out because my parents couldn’t afford tuition (学费). My hope of getting a diploma was dead, or so I thought. Pretty soon, I married and had three children, and I thought: “There goes my diploma.” Even so, I wanted my children to be educated. But Linda, our youngest child, had juvenile arthritis (幼年型关 节炎) in her hands and knees, which made it impossible for her to function in a normal classroom. I felt really sorry for her and I didn’t want her to live her life with regret. I didn’t give up hope of her being back to school in some way. One day, I saw an ad in the newspaper for evening courses. “That’s the answer,”I said to myself. Linda always feels better in the evening, so I’ll just sign her up for night school. Linda was busy filling out enrollment (入学) forms when the secretary said: “Mrs. Schantz, why don’t you come back to school?” I laughed: “There’s no way! I’m 55!”But he persisted, and before I knew what I had done, I was enrolled for classes in English and crafts. “This is only an experiment,”I warned him, but he just smiled. So, I told myself to try for just a semester and to see if it would work. Anyway, my dream was still there in my heart. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为 150 左右; 2. 应使用 5 个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: It was exciting to go to school again but ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Linda and I saw each other through the time. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ A possible version: It was exciting to go to school again but it was no game. Sitting in a classroom full of kids was awkward, even if most of them were respectful and encouraging. During the day, I was still a busy married woman having loads of housework to do. In the evening, I was a hardworking student working on my courses. To my surprise, both Linda and I did very well in night school. I went back again the next semester, and my grades steadily improved. Linda and I saw each other through the time. When I was down, Linda encouraged me. “Mom, you can’t quit now!” And when she was down, I encouraged her. I have to say it was a time which was really hard on both of us. But neither of us gave up. At last, I got my diploma. To my surprise, almost all of my classmates voted for me to be class speaker, and I got a $3,000 college scholarship. The unfinished business in my dreams was eventually finished.查看更多
