Place a clean, folded cloth over the injured area and firmly apply pressure. If blood soaks through, do not remove it. Instead, cover that cloth with another one and continue to apply pressure to the wound for 7~10 minutes. If the bleeding is from the ear, place a clean bandage over the ear, lay the victim on his side, and allow the blood to drain out through the bandage. Elevate the injury. Position the wounded part of the body above the level of the heart if possible while you apply direct pressure. Know the pressure points. If direct pressure and elevation don't sufficiently slow the blood flow, find a pressure point. Large arteries (动脉) found close to the skin's surface supply blood to the head and to each arm and leg. The most common pressure points used during the first aid are located in the upper arms and in the creases (皱纹) above the upper legs. Apply pressure to the closest pressure point to the wound so that the artery is pressed between your fingers and the bone directly behind the artery. If using the pressure point on a leg, you may need to use the heel of your hand instead of your finger. Resort to a tourniquet On very rare occasions everything listed above may fail. To prevent the victim from dying, you should apply a tourniquet. Once a tourniquet is applied, it should not be loosened or removed until the victim has reached medical help. Use a tourniquet only if everything listed above has failed. If you use a tourniquet, write down somewhere on the victim the time when it was applied, so medical personnel will know how long it has been in place. 1.If blood soaks through the cloth, you should ________. A.change a clean one immediately B.wash the wound at once C.press the wound firmly with your hand D.cover that one with another one and press the wound 解析:选D 细节理解题。 2.In this passage ________ ways are mentioned to stop blood. A.it is better to put the injured part above the head to stop bleeding B.large arteries deep in the muscle supply blood to the head and to each arm and leg C.we should use a tourniquet first to stop bleeding D.the most common pressure points lie in the upper arms and in the creases above the upper legs 解析:选D 推理判断题。 June, 5thSunny This afternoon, when I was walking home after school, I noticed my neighbour Uncle Bob lying by the roadside with his right hand on his breast. He had recently found a perfect outdoor cure. It was a new coffeehouse which served 45 kinds of coffee and tea. He liked it because the coffee was good and the place was never overcrowded. The coffeehouse was only a 10minute walk, which Blair now took. There were three female customers in the coffeehouse. None of them were young and pretty. Blair was a little disappointed. He'd prefer to see goodlooking women while he was drinking good coffee, but you can't have everything. He ordered a large “coffee of the day”, which was $1.70. He gave the clerk two dollars. He put the change in the tip jar and took his coffee outside. Blair preferred to drink outside. That way he could watch the traffic on the street. He liked to try to spot British motorcycles and 1960 station wagons. He sat at a table under an umbrella, opened his book,_and began reading. The book was a selfimprovement book. Blair had been reading it on and off for about two years. He hadn't noticed any improvement. A woman was approaching the patio (平台). Blair looked up to see if she was attractive. She was. And she was by herself. He returned to the book as she passed by him. Blair kept looking at the pages, but his mind was on the woman. A few minutes later, she came outside holding a cup of coffee and sat at the table right next to Blair's. Her chair was so close to his that he could have reached over and touched her on her right shoulder. There were four other empty tables on the patio. Why had she sat at this one, so close to him? Was she telling him that she was available? Was she hoping that he would make a move? Paragraph 1 Blair went back to his book. But Paragraph 2 Just then, her cellphone rang. Paragraph 1 Blair went back to his book. Buthe wasn't reading the words; he was thinking about the woman. What could he say to her? How could he break the ice? What was a good line? “What are you drinking?” “Your perfume smells nice.” “Weren't we in the same art class?” But maybe she wasn't interested in him at all. Maybe she just wanted to sit and drink in peace. Yet why would she sit right here? His head was spinning. He must say something. Paragraph 2 Just then, her cellphone rang. She answered it, then laughed, then started talking energetically. That's got to be her boyfriend, Blair thought. But from the moment she answered the phone, it didn't matter if she had a boyfriend or not, because she was speaking another language. Blair was not interested in a girl who didn't speak English. He went back to his book and his coffee. It tasted good.
