The two happily began to sing the movie’s big song, “Let It Go,” and were soon joined by Tinker Bell and four other fairy-tale princesses: Anna, Ariel, Jasmine, and Snow White. You would swear you were celebrating at the most magical place on earth. But this wasn’t Disney World. It was the pediatric (儿科的) cancer ward at a hospital on Long Island in New York. And the princesses were college students who volunteer for A Moment of Magic, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to lift the spirits of sick children. Kylee McGrane, now 23 and her friend Maggie McAndrew, then both students on service scholarships at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City, were searching for a new community project, ideally one with kids. That sparked an idea—dressing up as Disney princesses and visiting pediatric cancer patients. “When kids are in a hospital for so long, they don’t get all the magic that most kids do,” says McGrane. “It’s nice to give them time to be themselves.” In 2015, after raising to pay for costumes and travel expenses, McGrane and McAndrew landed their first gig, at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. They dressed as Elsa and her sister, Anna, to the delight of the girls and smiles from the boys. They spent nearly three hours singing songs, taking pictures, and traveling from one bedside to the next until they had visited and chatted with every one of the 50 children. “To see the kids believe in me, my character … It was life-changing,” says McGrane. Of course, a princess can work only so many miracles at once, so McGrane and McAndrew recruited their peers. Today, AMoment of Magic has 400 volunteers from 11 colleges around the country. 21. According to the text, we can know that_________ A. Frozen is a famous cartoon character. B. Tinker Bell is a college student. C. The four-year-old child is a cancer patient. D. AMoment of Magic is an organization to help treat sick children. 22. Why do McGrane and McAndrew dress as princesses for sick kids? A. They follow their dreams of being princesses. B. They need to win the scholarships. C. They tend to take a new job. D. They help the “special” kids get the magic that most kids do. 23. When McGrane says “…it was life-changing”, she probably means that______ A. Her life is changing. B. Her behavior has a great influence on the kids. C. Her mission is not only to offer the kids a little magic, but hope. D. Her future job should be an actress. 24. What does the text mainly convey to the readers? A. Make a gift of rose, hand stay lingering fragrance. B. Where there is kindness, there is goodness; where there is goodness, there is a magic. C. Venture outside your comfort zone, the rewards are worth it. D. If I go, there is just no telling how far I will go. B It’s been said by some people that men are better at math and science than women. And taking a look at the figures from college departments, it could be difficult to argue with that. However, one famous British university is trying to put an end to this theory. At Oxford University, math and computer science are two subjects that have big gaps in terms of grades between men and women. For example, just 21.2 percent of women taking math graduated with first-class degrees in 2017, compared to 45.5 percent of men, reported The Times. The university believes that female students are more likely to be affected by “time pressure”. So to solve this problem, female students at Oxford were given 15 minutes more than male students to finish their math and computer science exams in the summer of 2017. The decision came not long after the university’s history department allowed its female students to take exams at home in 2017, reported The Independent. The aim of that plan was also to close the gap between men and women in the subject’s exam results. These changes were welcomed by some people, who saw them as a positive sign. However, others criticized the decisions, saying they suggest that females are the weaker sex. Indeed, research from the US Department of Education suggested that girls are as good at math-based subjects as boys are, reported news website Quartz in January. However, they’re prevented from cultivating an interest in math and science because of the bias (偏见) that women aren’t good at those subjects, a 2012 report by Forbes said. But according to Quartz, there are better ways to equalize education between the sexes, such as giving more resources to girls to help them fall in love with math and science. And for girls who think they’re bad at these subjects, it could all just be in their imagination. “The truth is, you probably are a math person, and by thinking otherwise, you are possibly hamstringing (破坏)your own career,” wrote The Atlantic. 25. We can know from Paragraph 1 that________. A . There is a gap between the math abilities of males and females. B. According to some college departments, females got better grades than males in math. C. It is difficult to know whether males or females are more skilled in math. D. A British university doesn’t believe females are the weaker in math and is trying to help solve the problem. 26. Which of the following is not mentioned in the text? A. Who is more excellent in terms of grades in math and computer science. B. Whether Oxford University’s measures are effective. C. What Oxford University did to improve females’ math grades. D. What we should do to equalize education between sexes. 27. What can be inferred from the text? A. Females need more time during the math exams. B. Due to the bias that women aren’t good at math, females performed badly in math-based subjects. C. If developing an interest in math, females may be no worse than males. D. The more resources are given to females, the better grades they will get in the math exams. C Apple users who were easily upset about handing over their fingerprints now face an even more personal proposition (议题): unlocking their smart-phones with their faces. With Face ID, an iPhone X user simply holds up the device and it recognizes his or her face. “Nothing has ever been simpler, more natural and effortless,” said Phil Schiller. “Face ID is the future of how we unlock our smart-phones and protect our sensitive information.” It is convenient but perhaps a bit horrible. The system relies on an advanced set of tech packed into the front of the new phone. The dot projector sends out more than 30,000 invisible infrared (红外线 ) dots, and the infrared camera seizes an image. Apple uses the infrared image and dot pattern and pushes them through neural(神经) networks to create a mathematical model of your face, and then it checks that mathematical model against a stored image seized earlier. Once it detects a match, the phone unlocks. Schiller said Apple took more than a billion images and multiple neural networks to create Face ID. iPhone X will come with an A11 bionic neural engine to process faces. To set it up, hold your iPhone X in front of your face and move your head slowly around. That will become the stored version on your phone. Face ID is advanced enough to work in the dark, and to learn your face under different circumstances -- so go ahead and wear those fashionable glasses or grow that fashionable beard. Schiller said Apple also worked hard to ensure the technology can’t be easily tricked by things like photographs. “They’ve even gone and worked with professional mask makers and makeup artists in Hollywood to protect against these attempts to beat Face ID,” he said. The tech also requires users’ attention to unlock -- your eyes have to be open, and you can't be looking away, meaning your device should remain safe even if you’re asleep. 28. Face ID enables users _______. A. to hold up the device with less difficulty B. to unlock their smart-phones much easier C. to protect the iPhone X from being stolen D. to make it convenient to store information 29. Which of the following is explained in paragraph 2? A. What the facial recognition is. B. Why iPhone X is very popular. C. How iPhone X’s Face ID works. D. Where the system create images. 30. To unlock your device with Face ID, you must_______. A. expose it to the strong light B. keep yourself wide awake C. fix your eyes on the screen D. wear no glasses or makeup 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 This month is the arrival of the graduation season. A large number of students will say goodbye to their colleges and get busy finding jobs. 31 . According to a survey by online recruiter Zhaopin in May, about 9.8% of the 93,420 graduates surveyed said they wouldn’t begin working right after graduation. This phenomenon is called “delayed employment”. One reason is that young people want to find a job that is related to their personal interests, and they are not willing to give in and take jobs they don’t like ,according to job consultants at Zhaopin.“ 32. Maybe I could have found a job or two, but I don’t want to just make a living or be stuck in a specific position.” Shen Yu, who graduated in 2014 but didn’t look for a job right away said. 33 . Statistics provided by the Ministry of Education show the number of new university graduates will reach a record 7.95 million this year. According to Zhaopin, by April, half the respondents said they have received between one and three offers, down 5.2% from 2016. 34 . For example, Chen Nuan 23, who will graduate from the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts this summer, has planned to tour Europe immediately after graduation. “As the old Chinese saying goes, ‘traveling thousands of miles is better than reading thousands of books’,” she said. However, no matter what you choose after you graduate, make full use of the first few years. 35_ . The first 10 years are essential. They shape careers in the long term. A. This is when people develop soft skills such as punctuality and teamwork. B. However, it seems not all students will be in a hurry to get to work. C. A likely reason could be that the average 2016 US grad has $37,172 in student debt. D. Another reason that some have chosen to delay finding work is to avoid the fierce competition of the job market. E. Looking for the right career is like looking for Mr. Right. F. In fact, the number of students who have opted not to work right after graduation has been growing. G. And some Chinese college students have chosen to travel or volunteer instead of finding jobs. When I was in junior high, the eighth-grade bully(欺凌弱小者) struck me in the stomach. I often accompanied my mother to the A&P to buy groceries. Without a car, we walked, and I would help her carry the bags. My mother had to shop very carefully, as she was a waitress, and her salary barely sustained(勉强维 持)us. One day, while she was weighing prices, a promotional display for the World Book Encyclopedia caught my eye. The volumes were beautifully cream-colored. Volume I was ninety-nine cents with a ten-dollar purchase. All I could think of while shopping was the book. I stood at the register(收银台) with my mother, holding my breath as the cashier rang up the items. It came to over eleven dollars. My mother produced a five, some singles, and a handful of change. As she was counting out the money, I somehow found the courage to ask for the encyclopedia (百科全书)."Could we get one?"I said showing her the display. "It's only ninety-nine cents.” I did not understand my mother's increasing anxiety; she did not have enough change and had to sacrifice a large can of peas to pay the amount. "Not now, Patricia," she said sternly. Today is not a good day. "I packed the groceries and followed her home, upset. The next Saturday, my mother gave me a dollar and sent me to the A&P alone. Two quarts of milk and a loaf of bread ---that's what a dollar in 1957. I went straight to the World Book display. There was only one first volume left, which I placed in my cart (购物车). I didn’t need a cart, but took one so I could read as I went up and down the aisles. A lot of time went by and I knew I had to leave, but I couldn’t bear to part with the book. With no detective in sight, I, impulsively(冲动地), put it inside my shirt and zipped up my jacket. I was a tall, skinny kid, and I am certain the shape of the book was obvious. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为 150左右; 2.至少使用 5个短文中划有下划线的关键词语; 3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Para 1: My heart beating rapidly, I headed for the register.__________________________________ Para 2: Back home, I told my mother what I had promised the detective. ________________________ 浙江省湖州中学 2020 学年第一学期高三第一次质量检测 英语答案 第一部分:听力(共两节,每小题 1.5 分,满分 30 分) 1-20 CCAAC BCBBA CBABA CACAB 第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,35 分) 第一节(每小题 2.5 分,共 25 分) 21- 24 CDCB 25 - 27 DBC 28 - 30 BCC 第二节(每小题 2 分,共 10 分) 31-35 BEDGA 第三部分:语言运用(共两节,45 分) 第一节:完形填空(每小题 1.5 分,共 30 分) 36-40 CDBDA 41-45DBDDC 46-50DACDC 51-55BDDCB 第二节:短文填空(每小题 1.5 分,共 15 分) 56 fallen 57 wings 58 a 59 increasingly 60 calling 61 It 62 to eat 63 the most 64 returned 65 in 第四部分:写作 第一节:应用文(15 分) Dear Lucy, I am so delighted to know that you want to buy some souvenirs with Chinese characteristics. I’m glad to recommend the Chinese brush to you. The Chinese brush, a traditional writing tool dating back to 2000 years ago, is ranked as one of the Four Treasures of the Chinese Study. Frankly speaking, in ancient China, calligraphy and paintings were mostly created with it. As far as I’m concerned, the Chinese brush is a perfect gift for your relatives who are fond of Chinese items. I sincerely hope my advice can be of great benefit to you. Yours, Li Hua 第二节:读后续写(25 分) My heart beating rapidly, I headed for the register. I paid the dollar for the three items and was about to leave when I felt a heavy tap on my shoulder. It was a big detective. “You stole something. You will be searched,” he announced. Horrified, I slid the book out from inside the shirt and handed it over. “An encyclopedia?” he asked, somewhat surprised.” Yes,” I whispered, trembling with fear. “Why didn’t you ask your parents to purchase it?" “ I did, but they didn’t have the money.” With a sigh, he made me promise to tell my parents about my wrongdoing and then let me leave. Back home, I told my mother what I had promised the detective. Unexpectedly, she didn’t explode as usual. She fell silent, looking extremely anxious. Consumed with guilt, I gathered my courage, apologized and promised that it would never happen again.” All will be OK!” said my mother, wrapping me in her arms. Then she told me that she would go to the A&P to tell the detective I had admitted and that I should play outside. Hours later, when I was back home, I noticed a bag with my name on it. I opened it and packed inside was the World Book Encyclopedia, Volume I.
