We gathered up chalk, pencils, stones, and so on, rapidly filling our checklists. It was a very close race. I was out of breath when I reached the clover(三叶草)patch in search of the last, most hard-to-find item: a four-leaf clover. I was pretty sure that I was going to win. I have always been able to find four-leaf clovers. I just see them. I spent my childhood collecting and pressing four-leaf clovers into books at my mother’s house. I started with big cloth- and leather-bound books. When I ran out of romantically bound volumes, I began to put my treasures into anything I could find: fiction paperbacks, cookbooks. The same is true in my house today. Shake a book, and a papery treasure just might fall into your hand. A few years ago, in Nova Scotia, my husband and I pulled off the road for a picnic. The ground was thick with clover. Some shoots had four, five, even six leaves. I lined them up on the picnic table to admire as my husband, never yet having found one four-leaf clover, looked on with awe. To me, it was simple. The differences in their shapes popped out, breaking the pretty pattern of the conventional clovers with their three perfect leaves. Two summers back, while waiting for an airport shuttle in Munich, I found a tiny four-leaf clover in a traffic circle and put it into my passport. On the way home, my husband and I were upgraded to business class. Friends attributed our good luck to the clover. I think, it’s more likely that we were upgraded because a kind customer service officer took pity on us. People disagree about whether the luck lies in the finding or in the possession of a clover. Some believe that the luck is lost if the four-leaf clover is even shown to somebody else, while others think the luck doubles if it is given away. I believe that positivity is increased by sharing. I feel lucky to find the clovers so often, but I don't think they influence my life any more than it does to share anything a little special—that momentary closeness between you and a friend or a stranger, as you all lean in to wonder at a rare find. 5.Why can the author notice four-leaf clovers so easily? A.She always has good luck. B.She has a special gift for plants. C.She practiced a lot in her childhood. D.She can tell the pattern differences. 6.How does the author deal with her four-leaf clovers? A.She often gives them away. B.She leaves them everywhere. C.She treats them with special love. D.She admires them with her husband. 7.How does the author understand luck and clovers? A.Closeness brought by clovers really counts. B.Clovers will influence one’s good luck a lot. C.C Good luck means finding or owning a clover. D.Good luck may double if you give clovers away. 8.What may be the best title for the passage? A.Hunting clovers B.Sharing clovers C.Not for luck D.Just for luck C The World’s Unusual Libraries Log Libraries Alex Johnson writes in his new book—Improbable Libraries,“ The very idea of a library is developing: many of these libraries operate on principles that differ mainly from the traditional libraries. Some, for example, have no membership or identification requirements, and some do not even request that the books be returned.” The oversized bird box in a park in Lowa is part of the Little Free Library Movement, which was established in Wisconsin in 2009. Phone Booths This design from the firm, Stereotank, offers browsing shelter for passers-by. In the UK, a phone company’s programme, allowing communities to take over their phone booth for £ 1— means that many have been changed into tiny local libraries. Meanwhile, a solar light has been set in a phone booth so that late night visitors can still read. Branches of Knowledge Didier Muller’s libraries operate as hanging libraries: visitors can look through pages, taking any book they choose and exchanging it with their own. The equipment of hanging wooden houses is one of several art projects serving as a booklover's place. Soundproofed Pods Around the world, architects are designing buildings that bend bricks-and-mortar libraries into new forms. The Seikei University Library in Japan—the vision of Pritzker Prize winner Shigeru Ban—contains space-age soundproofed (隔音的) pods to encourage discussions between students. 9.What does Alex Johnson mean according to the first paragraph? A.All the books must be returned in time. B.Books can be shared free of charge. C.Libraries will disappear in the future. D.Log Libraries are bigger than traditional ones. 10.Readers can exchange books with their own in ______. A.Log Libraries B.Phone Booths C.Branches or Knowledge D.Soundproofed Pods 11.What can we know from the text? A.Communities turn the phone booths into Log Libraries. B.Readers can't read books in Log Libraries without membership. C.Readers can read books by solar light in Branches or Knowledge. D.Students can have discussions without disturbing others in Soundproofed Pods. D It is increasingly popular for Chinese young people to share their experiences on Social media, such as the “moments” (朋友圈) on popular instant messaging service WeChat. “I have been reading ‘Jane Eyre’ for 40 days with 48,000 words finished,” Li Anqi said. Li has been sharing her reading experience on WeChat moments every day since January. Working in Yinchuan, capital of Northwest China’s Ningxia, Li wants to learn English very much, but cannot bare (摆脱) the daily grind (日常工作) of school lessons. “I found many of my WeChat friends had been reading books or learning English on mobile reading apps, and I did not want to fall behind,” Li said. In January, she spent more than 100 yuan purchasing an online reading class at the Bohe Reading app, which tells customers they can: “Finish reading your first English book here.” At the reading class, teachers assign reading homework and give instructions to 430 class members every day. A survey report released (发布) on Thursday said 70.9 percent of primary and middle students in China use the We chat instant messaging App. At the same time, 75.9 percent of Chinese children have their own mobile phones, according to China National Children’s Center. The figures were based on a survey of nearly 9,000 children across China. However, 28.8 percent of them never read news online and 43.2 percent have never touched newspapers. The Center called for efforts to address the digital divide between urban and rural education and protect children’s privacy as Internet users. 12.In the second paragraph, Jane Eyre is _________. A.a book B.an advertisement C.a piece of news D.a film 13.What is Li Anqi? A.A worker. B.A doctor. C.A teacher D.An actress. 14.What percentage of Chinese children have their own mobile phones? A.70.9 percent. B.75.9 percent. C.43.2 percent. D.28.8 percent. 15.Why is Li Anqi taken as an example? A.To call for us to be a good reader. B.To tell us to study English on the Internet. C.To advise us to take an online English reading course like her. D.To suggest that experience-sharing on social media is getting more and more popular in China. 第二节(共5小题,每小题3分,满分15分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Overcome Culture Shock in the Classroom Culture shock occurs in a classroom when students are exposed to a new situation.___16____. Excited for my journey, I packed all the necessities —except the 21 . While the convenience of the Internet was definitely a contributing factor to my 22 not to take with me the few expensive kilograms of out-of-date information, this was not the only reason why I decided to fly alone. To be honest, my main 23 with the guidebook is that I find it 24 the pleasure of a journey—like bossy aunt who is always telling you what to do, 25 she doesn’t always know what is the best. Experience has taught me that there is an obvious 26 between a tourist and traveler. While waiting in a queue, I met a man who had a checklist. He showed me his list of “Top 20 Things To Do in Italy” and 27 off in a loud American accent that he'd seen everything Italy has to offer in just four days. The problem I had with this man’s 28 to travelling was that he was too 29 information provided by his guidebook. He was lost in the 30 attractiveness of the “must-sees” and 31 to all the wonders and adventures that might happen during the 32 trip. So, 33 any guidebook, I traveled to Estonia, the tiny Baltic country bordering Russia. In the 34 of advance plans as guidebooks would suggest, I had no choice but to turn to some friendly faces for advice. I 35 myself first and then asked them what was happening around the town. When this 36 an invitation to a beautiful Estonian home by a river where I 37 a 110-degree wood-stove sauna(桑拿浴), 38 picked forest-mushrooms and the good 39 of our five newly-found Estonian friends, I was most glad that I had left my “bossy 40 ” at home. 21.A.magazine B.guidebook C.cash D.map 22.A.excuse B.goal C.decision D.mistake 23.A.problem B.suggestion C.dislike D.connection 24.A.annoys B.increases C.removes D.limits 25.A.as if B.even though C.as though D.as long as 26.A.similarity B.difference C.misunderstanding D.competition 27.A.cut B.showed C.put D.gave 28.A.way B.determination C.approach D.confidence 29.A.cautious about B.amused by C.surprised at D.focused on 30.A.likely B.seeming C.lovely D.orderly 31.A.deaf B.dumb C.blind D.eager 32.A.real B.imagined C.guided D.paid 33.A.except B.beyond C.without D.unlike 34.A.face B.control C.loss D.absence 35.A.calmed B.warned C.introduced D.enjoyed 36.A.resulted in B.put in C.broke in D.cut in 37.A.found B.bathed C.ordered D.enjoyed 38.A.locally B.nervously C.rarely D.secretly 39.A.experience B.time C.opinion D.company 40.A.mom B.master C.aunt D.book 第二节(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分) 阅读下面材料,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。 Keep Your Eyes Open for Weight Loss Ads “In only six days I lost seven pounds of weight.” “Two full inches in the first three days!” These are the kinds of statements ___41___ (use) in magazine, newspaper, radio and television ads, ___42___ (promise) new shapes and new looks to those who buy the medicine or the device. But the price—five dollars—was too high for Reuben Earle. Five dollars would buy almost a week's food for his family. Reuben couldn't ask his father for the money. Everything his father made through fishing went to his mother, Dora. Slim and beautiful, she was the center of the home, the glue that held it together. The housework was never-ending, and she struggled to feed and clothe their five children but she was happy as her family and their well-being were all she cared about. Nevertheless, he opened the shop's weathered(风化的) door and went inside. Standing proud and straight in his flour-sack(面粉袋改做的) shirt and washed-out trousers, he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding ,“But I don't have the money right now. Can you please hold it for me for some time?” “I'll try,” the shopkeeper smiled. “People around here don't usually have that kind of money to spend on things. It should keep for a while.” Reuben respectfully touched his worn cap and walked out. He would raise the money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mum would get surprised when she saw that brooch. On hearing the sound of hammering from a side street, Reuben suddenly had an idea that he could raise money by selling the used nail bags(装钉子的麻袋). People built their own homes in Bay Roberts, using nails bought in bags from a local factory. Sometimes the used bags were thrown away at the construction site, and Reuben knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents a piece. That day he sold two nail bags and hid the money in a rusty soda tin(汽水罐). 注意: (1)所续写短文的词数应为120左右; (2)应使用5个以上短文标有下划线的关键词语; (3)续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; (4)续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词。 Paragraph 1 Every day after school, Reuben started his plan. … Paragraph 2 Finally, the time came! … 英语试卷答案 1-5AABBD 6-10CACBC 11-15DACBD 16-20GDEFA 21-25BCADB 26-30BBCDB 31-35CACDC 36-40ADADC 41.used 42.promising 43.can 44.it 45.is put 46.to require 47.If 48.involved 49.which 50.that Dear Jack I’m glad that you are interested in the Scholarly Campus activity in our school. I’m eager to tell you something about it. Recently our school has held the Scholarly Campus activity with the aim of encouraging us students to read more books, We have conducted several activities, such as holding class meetings about books, opening reading clubs, sharing reading experiences and so on. Now the concept of Scholarly Campus is so well-received that you can find students read books all over the campus. As for me, I’m more than happy to join in the activity. Not only does it arouse students interest in reading, but also cultivates students love for knowledge and more importantly, for life. I’m sure it will bring benefits for students. Wish you all the best. Yours Li Hua Every day after school Reuben started his plan. Cold and hungry, Reuben wandered the streets, searching for the nail bags carefully. To save money, he even decided to deliver papers in the early morning. Exhausted and tired as he felt he still stuck to the plan. It was the brooch in the shop window that reminded him that what he did was worthwhile. After a long time of hard work, he made it eventually. Finally the time came! He took out the soda tin, poured the coins out and began to count. Five dollars! His hard work paid off! Holding the soda tin firmly, Reuben rushed for the shop to buy the brooch. The moment he got the beautiful brooch, he burst through the front door and placed it in Dora’s hand. Never had Dora received such a gift. Speechless and happy, she held her son tightly into her arms, with tears welling up in her eyes.查看更多
