They were a poor farmer’s, who was working in the nearby field. The student turned to the teacher, saying: “we will hide his shoes, and hide ourselves behind those trees, and wait to see what he will do.” “My young friend,” answered the teacher, “we should never make fun of the poor. Why not put a coin in each shoe, and then we will hide ourselves and watch?” The student did so and they both hid themselves behind the trees. The poor man soon finished his work, and came across the field to the path where he had left his coat and shoes. After putting on his coat, he put his foot into one of his shoes, and felt something hard. Then he bent down to feel what it was, and found the coin. Surprised, he looked at the coin, turned it around and looked at it again. He then looked around, but no person was seen. He put the money into his pocket, and continued to put on the other shoe. His surprise was doubled on finding the other coin. He couldn’t control his feelings and fell to his knees, looked up to the sky and expressed his thanks. Then he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless, and his children without bread. He said the help would save them from dying. The student stood there deeply moved, and his eyes filled with tears. “Now,” said the teacher, “are you not much happier than if you had hidden the shoes?” 25. At the end of the story, the student _____. That’s what more than 1,700 kids told us when we asked them about fears and scary stuff. We gave kids a list of 14 scary things and asked which one frightened them most. Here are the top 5 answers from our survey (调查): ①Scary movies and TV shows; ②Scary dreams; ③Thunderstorms, hurricanes (飓风), and other horrible weather; ④War and terrorism (恐怖行动); ⑤Sounds heard at night. But not everyone is afraid of the same thing. And what makes one person scared can be of no big deal for someone else. Plenty of kids said their biggest fear wasn’t on our list. What is fear? Fear is a feeling that everyone has — it’s programmed into all of us — and that’s a good thing because fear is there to protect us. We’re born with a sense of fear so we can react to something that could be dangerous. The baby cries, and their mom comes over to comfort him or her, helping the baby feel safe and OK again. Real vs. Pretend The best way to get over a fear is to get more information about it. As kids get older, they understand more and start seeing the difference between what is real and unreal. So when William’s imagination leads him to think of witches, he can tell himself, “Wait a minute. They’re only pretend things. I don’t need to worry about them.” The same goes for the dark. A kid’s imagination can start playing tricks when the lights go out. What’s under my bed? Is that a thief I hear? With the help of a parent, kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a nightlight or shining a flashlight under the bed to see that there’s nothing there can help kids fight that fear. 29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The list of fears is not complete. B. The things people fear are of no big fear. C. Kids have more fears than people think. D. People are afraid of different things. 30. In the writer’s opinion, ___________. A. having a sense of fear is not a bad thing B. babies have a weak sense of fear C. fear is not something that we are born with D. not all people can react to dangerous things 31. What does the underlined word “pretend” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Ugly B. Usual C. Unreal D. Lovely D Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher. If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything. Communication begins with the concerns (关心) of another. It means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore (不理睬) everyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (表达)of information, correspondence (通信), means of communication: a letter or a message”. To maintain (保持) a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note. When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse. This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, not when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let the incident go. Communication is the key factor here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble. Communication isn’t a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication. 32. In the writer’s view, dealing with parents is __________ than with children. A. more difficult B. easier C. more uninteresting D. more interesting 33. The main idea of the second paragraph is __________. A. the importance of friendship B. to make your feeling known to others C. the importance of communication D. the disagreement between generations 34. When parents and children are in communication, the key to a happy relationship is that __________. A. children should always obey their parents B. they should be equal C. parents play the leading part D. both make the opposite know their feelings 35. The example in this passage proves that ___________. A. Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to her B. Sophie is very polite to her parents C. Sophie did well in explaining her being late D. communication is the solution(解决办法) to misunderstanding 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Make Friends Having friends may well keep you healthier and help you deal with difficulties better. It’s a fact that many students have the same experience as you. After entering the high school, they can’t adapt to the environment and don’t know how to make new friends, so you don’t have to worry too much about it. There is something that you can do to change this situation. First, try to invite some of your classmates to take part in some activities together after school. This will help you understand each other better. You can increase you ability to cooperate with others. Then, help others when they are in trouble and ask them to help you when you have difficulty. You can communicate with your classmates and find the ways of solving your problems together. I believe, you’ll make many new friends there soon. Best wishes to you!查看更多
