2017-2018学年甘肃省武威第十八中学高二下学期第二次月考英语试题 Word版
2017-2018学年甘肃省武威第十八中学高二下学期第二次月考英语试卷 命题人 第一卷(共70分) 一、阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分) A When I was in my fourth year of teaching, I was also (and am still) a high school track and field coach(田径教练). One year, I had a student, John, who entered my class when he was a junior. John changed to our school from Greece, and seemed to be interested in sports, so I encouraged him to join our track team. I explained to him that even though he had never taken part in it before, I did believe that he could do well in any event, and I would be willing to coach him at whichever ones interested him. He accepted the offer, and began to work hard at every practice. About a month later, I had found out from other sources that John was a first-class tennis player, winning various junior awards in his home country. I went to him asking, "John, I really appreciate that you came out for the track team, but why didn't you play tennis instead? It seems that would interest you a lot more, since you're so good at it." John answered, "Well, I like tennis, but you told me that you believed in me, and that you thought I could do well in track, so I wanted to try it for that reason." From then on, I often remember my student's reply. I told it to a friend and she suggested I write it down to share somewhere with more teachers. No matter how critical (不满的) students can be of them-selves, I've found that a simple "I trust that you can do it!" can go a long way! 1. According to Paragraph 1, the author seems to think more about John's ________ A. PE marks B. self-confidence C. interest in sports D. state of health 2. Why did John take part in the track team? A. He had been an excellent runner. B. He was encouraged by his teacher. C. He liked running more than tennis. D. He had no tennis coach to train him. 3. The purpose of this passage is probably _____. A. to build a close teacher-student relationship B. to introduce a new way of sports training C. to explain the value of sports and games D. to show the importance of encouragement 4. The passage is mainly written for _____.[] A. teachers B. parents C. students D. players B Using a mobile phone before going to bed can damage your health, according to a major study. It says that radiation from the mobile phone can cause insomnia(失眠症) and headaches as well as cutting the time spent in deep sleep. Failing to get enough sleep can lead to depression, lack of concentration and personality changes. In teenagers and young children, lack of sleep can result in attention disorders and poor grades. The research showed that using mobile phones before bed causes people to take longer to reach the deeper stages of sleep and to spend less time in them. Deep sleep is important as it is the time when the body rejuvenates(更新) cells and repairs damage suffered during the day. Scientists found that using mobile phones an hour before sleep affects it. In the study scientists examined the sleep patterns of 36 women and 35 men aged 18 to 45. Some were exposed to radiation that is similar to what a person receives when using a mobile phone. The others received none. The results are as follows: The first group took longer to enter the first of the deeper stages of sleep and spent less time in the deepest one. However, the second group was opposite. The findings will shock many parents. Many parents are always worried about their children’s health. But they didn’t have a better way to persuade them not to use a mobile phone. 5. The passage mainly tells us that ________. A. deep sleep is good for your health B. different people have different sleep patterns C. using a mobile phone before sleep can damage your health D. long sleep can renew cells 6. The underlined word “ it”refers to ________. A. people’s body B. deep sleep C. a sleep pattern D. a day 7. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage? A. Deep sleep is a good time for the body to repair damage suffered during the day B. The study examined the sleep patterns of about 70 people. C. Using mobile phones before bed causes people to take longer time to enter the deep sleep. D. The findings shocked many teachers and teenagers. 8. We can infer from the passage that _________. A. the lack of sleep can lead to children’s excitement B. radiation from the mobile phone can cause parents’ worries C. many children use mobile phones before sleep D. using a mobile phone before sleep doesn’t harm the aged C The Healthy Habits Survey shows that only about one third of American seniors have correct habits. Here are some findings and expert advice. 1. How many times did you brush your teeth yesterday? ● Finding: A full 33% of seniors brush their teeth only once a day. ● Step: Remove the 300 types of bacteria in your mouth each morning with a battery-operated toothbrush. Brush gently for 2 minutes at least twice a day. 2. How many times did you wash your hands or bathe yesterday? ● Finding: Seniors, on average, bathe fewer than 3 days a week. And nearly 30% wash their hands only 4 times a day---half of the number doctors recommend. ● Step: We touch our faces around 3,000 times a day-often inviting germs(病菌)to enter our mouth, nose, and eyes. Use toilet paper to avoid touching the door handle. And, most importantly, wash your hands often with hot running water and soap for 20 seconds. 3. How often do you think about fighting germs? ● Finding: Seniors are not fighting germs as well as they should. ● Step: Be aware of germs. Do you know it is not your toilet but your kitchen sponge (海绵) that can carry more germs than anything else? To kill these germs, keep your sponge in the microwave for 10 seconds. 9.
