I was upset when my parents told me we were moving again and I would have to leave all my best friends behind.‎ In 7th grade, we moved back to Washington DC. And I could not have been more excited and I felt like I was finally home again. But things had changed. There were two new girls, who decided that they didn't like me, which meant no one else could, not even all my former best friends.‎ And then one day during school, I opened my locker, only to find a note lying on the floor. The note said:Die. Nobody likes you. ‎ My heart started beating faster and I felt the blood rushing to my face. I had no idea what to do. The note wasn't signed and I had no idea who had written it, but I figured the new girls were behind it. I had to sit in class all day with my head down, wondering who else knew about this shame. I felt horrible and sure that nothing would ever be good again. ‎ I decided that the perfect way to end all of this was with another note, ‎ left on the bathroom mirror at school. ‎ It's sad for someone to bully (欺负) other classmates to make themselves feel better or look cool. Bullying others is a way to impress others. It's common, but that doesn't mean it's Okay. Looking cool is not worth making others feel bad. Obviously I'm very happy now, but it doesn't mean I'll ever forget about that note or how it made me feel. And to those of you that are current victims of bullying—know that you are NOT alone. It will get better. I promise.‎ ‎24.Why was the author unhappy when she left Washington DC?‎ A.She couldn't adapt herself.‎ B.She had to leave her best friends.‎ C.She was growing up there.‎ D.She hated traveling a lot.‎ ‎25.When the author opened the locker, she felt________.‎ A.surprised B.annoyed C.amused D.ashamed ‎26.In the end, the author turned things around________.‎ A.under her teacher's guide B.by compromising to others C.with her best friends' help D.through her own efforts ‎27.What suggestion does the author give to the teens?‎ A.Meet friends whenever possible. ‎ B.Make efforts to fight back hard.‎ C.Go easy on yourself and others.‎ D.Be optimistic and let a thing slide.‎ C The hit movie Notting Hill (《诺丁山》) begins with a famous scene. Hugh Grant knocks into Julia Roberts and spills orange juice all over her. After it happened, Grant repeatedly says, “I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.”‎ His actions in this scene are very British. If Roberts were from Britain, then she would probably apologize repeatedly as well-even if it were not her fault. But this doesn't happen in the movie, as Roberts is from the US.‎ A report in The Telegraph once said that three quarters of British people apologize when they ran into someone in the street-regardless of whether they are responsible or not. In fact, the British use “sorry” in many situations. For example, if they mishear someone, they say “Sorry?” The person they are talking to will also apologize by replying, “No, I am sorry!” This can go on for up to five minutes as they compete for who is the most sorry.‎ Why are the British so sorry? Mark Tyrrell, a psychology writer in the UK, thinks that their apologetic tendencies are rooted in the British class system. “We say sorry because historically the new middle class in Britain had to apologize for not being the working class, but also for not really being the upper class.” Another theory is that they apologize to avoid conflicts. For example, if they bump into someone, he might get angry. To avoid this, they instantly say “Sorry!”‎ True manners are about being considerate, and today's constant use ‎ of apologizing shows that we are perhaps not as thoughtful as we once were. The word “sorry” has lost some of its meaning. Do you see my point? Sorry, it might just be a British thing.‎ ‎28.Why does the author mention a scene in the movie Notting Hill at the beginning?‎ A. To give an example of British modesty.‎ B.To introduce different ways of saying sorry.‎ C.To show what kind of men are considered gentlemen in the UK.‎ D.To draw our attention to when and how British people say sorry.‎ ‎29.Which of the following statements might Mark Tyrrell agree with?‎ A.People should not apologize if they are not responsible.‎ B.Americans care less about manners than British people do.‎ C.That British people apologize so much is linked to the class system.‎ D.British people care too much about which social class they are from.‎ ‎30.What can be inferred from the passage?‎ A.It's unnecessary for British people to be so polite.‎ B.The overuse of apologizing shows Britons are truly sincere.‎ C.People should give up the traditional use of the word “sorry”.‎ D.Using “sorry” more doesn't necessarily mean people are more polite.‎ ‎31.What is the author's purpose in writing this passage?‎ A.To explore the best way of saying sorry.‎ B.To explain why the British overuse the word “sorry”.‎ C.To show how saying sorry has changed over time.‎ D.To suggest many British people lack traditional manners.‎ D Regarded as one of the English language's most gifted poets, John Keats wrote poetry that focused on imagery, human nature, and philosophy. Although Keats didn't receive much formal literary education, his own studies and love brought him much success. Additionally, his own life situation influenced his poetry greatly.‎ Growing up as a young boy in London in a lower middleclass family, the young John didn't attend a private school, but went to a public one. His teachers and his family's friends regarded him as an optimistic boy who favored playing and fighting much more than minding his studies. After his father's death in the early 1800s, followed by his mother's passing due to tuberculosis (肺结核), he began viewing life differently. He wanted to escape the world and did so by reading anything he could get his hands on.‎ At around the age of 16, the teenage John Keats began studying under a surgeon so that he too might become a doctor. However, his literary appetite had taken too much of his fancy, especially with his addiction to the poetry of Ehmund Spenser. He was able to have his first full poem published in the Examiner in 1816, entitled O Solitude! If I Must With Thee Dwell. Within two months in 1817, Keats had written an entire volume of poetry, but was sharply blamed by a magazine. However, the negative response didn't stop his pursuit of rhythm (韵律).‎ John Keats' next work was Endymion, which was published in May 1818. The story involves a shepherd who falls in love with the moon goddess and leads him on an adventure of one boy's hope to overcome the limitations of being human. Following Endymion, however, he tried something more narrativebased and wrote Isabella. During this time, John Keats began seeing his limitations in poetry due to his own limit in life experiences. He would have to have the “knowledge” linked to his poems. His next work was Hyperion that would attempt to combine all that he learned. However, a bout (发作) with tuberculosis while visiting Italy would keep him from his work and eventually take his life in 1821.‎ ‎32.John Keats' attitude towards life changed because of ________.‎ A.his early education from school B.the deaths of his parents C.Edmund Spenser's poetry D.the criticism of a magazine ‎33.What is the common thing between John Keats and his mother?‎ A.They died of the same disease.‎ B.They had a bad childhood.‎ C.They read many books.‎ D.They showed strong interest in poetry.‎ ‎34.While seeking his dream of becoming a poet first, John Keats was ________.‎ A.determined B.experienced C.knowledgeable D.impatient ‎35.What do we know from the passage?‎ A.Keats received much formal literary education at school.‎ B.Keats once had a chance of becoming a doctor.‎ C.In 1816 Keats spent two months writing a poem.‎ D.Endymion was about a real love story.‎ 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ One morning last week I looked out of my study window and saw that it was a fine day. He has been playing with them after school. My wife and I are glad he has other kids to be with and we have allowed and encouraged him to play with his friends. We also want Kevin to learn responsibility, so we have asked him to tell us where he's going and to come home at a time that he has promised before he goes out.‎ The problems started when Kevin didn't come home on time. On one occasion, Kevin promised to be back at 6 pm. By 6:30, I needed to go looking for him. I found him at a friend's house, and he looked a little disappointed for the reason that he couldn't continue playing. After we came home, I sat Kevin down for a talk about the importance of keeping his word. I told him I was not worried about his arriving a few minutes late, but after half an hour, I was going to be concerned. He told me he understood.‎ The next day, I came home from work at about 6:30 pm and my wife asked me to go and get Kevin back because he said he should be back ‎ home at 6 pm. I walked to his friend's house and a look of shame appeared on Kevin's face when he came to the door.‎ At home, my wife and I spoke to Kevin about why he didn't come home on time again.
