Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to. Frank, Aged 21 I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck! Eddie, Aged 20 When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it. David, Aged 19 I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening(令人恐惧的). But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry. 21. What can we infer from Sharon about high school? A. Teachers are quite strict. B. Students often stay up at night. C. Teachers provide little care for students. D. Students should make good use of their time. 22. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school? A. Excited B. Bored C. Worried D. Relaxed 23. Who mentions the importance of friends? A. Frank B. David C. Sharon D. Eddie B Good evening parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. I would like to thank you all for coming on this very special day for every student on this stage. I know how proud you must be. As we have grown over the years, there are many steps and stages we all have gone through. From learning our shapes and colors, to getting our first kiss in middle school, or how about explaining to our parents why we skipped school because the headmaster called home. As we remember these days, things that we’ve done will be with us forever. But this is only the start of our journey. To graduate is one more step we’ve taken in our lives. Now I would like to take the time to thank everyone who has helped me get this far. First of all, thank you to all the teachers. None of us would be here without you always pushing our studying abilities to the fullest. My brother Jeramie who always said, “If anyone is meant to you, I’ll take care of it.” My mom, thank you for always believing in me and putting up with me. And last but not least, my dad, for proving to me that I always need to take responsibility for my actions and deal with the result. Thank you all! I love you. Now, advice to the students! Many of you think, “This is as good as it gets!” but the future holds a bigger plan for all of us. So good luck and congratulations to the class of 2015. We did it! 24. We can infer from the passage that the writer of the passage is ________. A. a parent B. a headmaster C. a teacher D. a student C Reading can be a social activity. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group. Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it. Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.” Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it. People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossing to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Pederson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home. BookCrossing is part of a trend among people who want to get back to the “real” and not the virtual(虚拟). The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty-five countries. 28. Why does the author mention book groups in the first paragraph? A. To explain what they are. B. To introduce BookCrossing. C. To stress the importance of reading. D. To encourage readers to share their ideas. 29. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. The book. B. An adventure. C. A public place. D. The identification number. 30. What will a BookCrosser do with a book after reading it? A. Meet other readers to discuss it. B. Keep it safe in his bookcase. C. Pass it on to another reader. D. Mail it back to its owner. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. Online Reading: A Virtual Tour B. Electronic Books: A new Trend C. A Book Group Brings Tradition Back D. A Website Links People through Books D Some people surveyed tasted the sweet, salty, and crunchy together with other tastes of food as they listen to different noises. It shows that louder noises reduced the reported sweetness or saltiness of food while increasing the measure of crunchiness(松脆). It may go some way to explain why airline food is widely complained about by both the workers and passengers. Andy Woods, a researcher, said, “It’s a general opinion that plane foods aren’t fantastic, but I’m sure airlines do their best, so we wondered if there were other reasons. One thought was that perhaps the background noise may have an effect. NASA gives their space explorers very strong-tasting foods, because for some reason, they can’t taste food that strongly – again, it may have something to do with the background noise.” In a study, 48 people were fed sweet foods or salty ones, while listening to nothing or noise through earphones. Meanwhile they rated(划分等级)the foods. In noisier settings, foods were rated less salty or sweet than they were when it was silent, but were rated crunchier. “The evidence shows that if the background noise is loud, your attention might be drawn to that, away from the food.” Dr. Woods said. “We are still at an early stage of progressing and this is a rather small study to really draw definitive(最完整可靠的)conclusions from,” Dr Woods said, “but they suggest that restaurants could well adapt their choice of food for a given environment.” Also in the group’s findings there is the suggestion that the overall satisfaction with the food is also related to the degree to which people like what they are hearing. 32. How does the food taste when it is eaten in a noise environment? A. Less salty but crunchier. B. Sweeter and saltier. C. Sweeter but less crunchy. D. Less sweet and crunchy. 33. What does NASA give their space explorers very strong-tasting foods? A. Foods become less tasty in space. B. The explorers lose their sense of taste in space. C. Loud noises in space may weaken the explorers’ sense of taste. D. The explorers need tastier foods to keep energetic in space. 34. We can infer from what Dr. Woods said in the 4th paragraph that ________. A. the environment influences the food a restaurant sells B. the researchers have made an effective conclusion C. music will weaken people’s sense of taste while eating D. listening to nothing while eating is the best choice 35. What would be the best title for the text? A. The best dinner environment B. How to change plane foods C. Listening to music while eating D. Background noise affects the taste of foods 第二节 (共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Advice for High School Students As a person who is graduating from high school very soon, I have some suggestions for students in high school or students who are soon going to be high school students. 36 . I am sure others can benefit from reading them and will not make similar mistakes like me. 37 . Do not value first impression highly. Don’t dismiss a person or an idea too early just because you immediately get a bad impression. You will miss many opportunities because of that. There is no way you can please everybody or get everybody to agree with you. 38 . It is a huge waste of time. Have respect for authority. No matter how much you may dislike them, just remember that teachers and parents care about you and they are only doing their jobs. 39 . Don’t argue with them and just obey them.
