Is it good for your heart? Does it increase blood pressure? Does it help you concentrate? However, coffee affects the health of the human population in other ways, too.‎ Traditionally, coffee bushes were planted under the shade of taller trees. However, more and more farmers in Latin America are deforesting the land to grow full-sun coffees. At first, this increases production because more coffee bushes can be planted if there aren’t any trees. With increased production come increased profits.‎ Unfortunately, deforesting for coffee production immediately decreases local wildlife habitat. Native birds nest and hide from predators(捕食者)in the tall trees and migrating(迁徙) birds rest there.‎ Furthermore, in the long term, the full-sun method also damages the ecosystem because more chemical fertilizers(化肥) and pesticides(杀虫剂) are needed to grow the coffee. The fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that eat coffee plant, but then the birds eat the poisoned insects and also die. The chemicals kill or sicken other animals as well, and can even enter the water that people will eventually drink.‎ Fortunately, farmers in Central and South America are beginning to grow more coffee bushes in the shade. We can support these farmers by buying coffee with such labels as “shade grown” and “bird friendly.” Sure, these varieties might cost a little more. But we’re paying for the health of the birds, the land, ourselves, and the planet. I think it’s worth it.‎ ‎4.Which opinion does the author probably agree with?‎ A. People should buy full-sun coffee.‎ B. Shade-grown coffee should be supported.‎ C. Farmers should change the places to grow coffee.‎ D. Pesticides should be forbidden in coffee planting.‎ ‎5. Compared with the traditional method, what advantage does the full-sun method have?‎ A. It can protect the ecosystem.B. It can promote people’s health.‎ C. It can provide more nests for birds.D. It can increase the production of coffee.‎ ‎6. How do farmers get more land to grow full-sun coffee?‎ A. They buy more land from other farmers.B. They move to other countries.‎ C. They cut down trees.D. They turn grassland into farmland.‎ ‎7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?‎ A. Why plant Full- Sun coffee?‎ B. Why buy Shade-Grown coffee?‎ C. How does Shade-Grown coffee affect the health?‎ D. How does Full-Sun coffee damage the ecosystem?‎ C Many people in high school cannot wait to go to college and leave their hometown behind. Questions arise, though, when it comes to all of the decisions involved in choosing a college.‎ One of the first considerations may be finance. State and public colleges are often the least expensive. Often, though, the better colleges are private and more expensive. It is sad when gifted students cannot attend a college of their choice just for financial reasons.‎ Another major factor is location. Whether the college is in a small town or large city can have a major impact on its activities. A water lover probably will be more comfortable spending four years near an ocean or a lake. Those who cannot tolerate heat will probably be more comfortable at a northern college. Distance from home may also come into consideration. If family is a top priority, that person should stay close to home; on the other hand, if independence is desired, a campus farther from home would be more appropriate.‎ School size also plays a major role in the decision process. If you want to get to know your teachers, a small college is suitable. For those of you who consider yourself a “people_person” and want a wide range of activities, a large college is more fitting. Your area of interest is another factor to consider in the decisionmaking process if you want to get the most from your education. The whole point of college is to learn what is of interest to you.‎ Crucially (至关重要地), one must take into consideration the colleges by which you can realistically be accepted. An Ivy League school for an average student would probably not be a good match. Similarly, an average school for an aboveaverage student would not work well. The college should provide enough of a challenge for the student to work hard. Although there may not be the perfect college out there, there probably will be one that is close. Those who cannot find a suitable college are probably not looking hard enough.‎ ‎8.When it comes to going to college the author thinks ________.‎ A.financial situation is the first to considerB.students are unwilling to leave their home C.students will become homesickD.students are eager to attend their ideal university ‎9.What is the main idea of the third paragraph?‎ A.Students can be independent at college.‎ B.A long distance will make students upset.‎ C.The location of the college is a main factor.‎ D.The climate must be taken into consideration.‎ ‎10.What does the underlined part “people person” in the passage mean?‎ A.A person of great capacity. B.A very particular person.‎ C.A very sociable person. D.A person of great importance.‎ ‎11.Which is the most important factor when choosing a college?‎ A.The location of a college. B.The examination result.‎ C.School size. D.The coming challenges.‎ D Weyland's Ice Cream Shop has been a favorite of my children and grandchildren for almost 30 years. We have never had a bad experience at Weyland's — the ice cream and the customer service have always been firstrate. We love it that we can enjoy a treat while also supporting a local business. Furthermore, we sincerely appreciate the way Marcus Weyland gives back to the community by always giving 50% of his Friday night profits to the Metroville Animal Shelter.‎ I was shocked and saddened to hear the city of Metroville is determined to force Mr.Weyland out of business so that they can turn the ice cream shop into a parking deck (停车场).By announcing that the parking deck will be “for the use of the public”,the city has the right to buy Mr.Weyland's shop as long as they pay him “fair market value”.‎ The amount of money that the government will give Mr.Weyland is only what his building is worth now. They are not compensating (赔偿) him for the money it will cost to open a new shop in another location. They are not compensating him for the money he will lose as he moves his business. Moreover, the city will do nothing to help the shop's five employees who will now be out of work.‎ The city says that the parking deck will be in the public's best interest, but what good will another parking deck do for the city? Downtown Metroville already has three parking decks, and they are never full. On the other hand, Weyland's is a familyrun business that employs local citizens and gives back to the community. How can a parking deck be better for the public than Weyland's Ice Cream Shop?‎ Metroville's citizens deserve to keep their beloved ice cream shop. More importantly, Marcus Weyland deserves better treatment from the city of Metroville.‎ ‎12.What do we know about Weyland's Ice Cream Shop?‎ A.It enjoys a good name.B.It employs family members only.‎ C.It doesn't make money on Friday nights.D.It will be out of business for lack of customers.‎ ‎13.What can we learn from the text?‎ A.Mr.Weyland asks too much for moving his business.‎ B.Metroville is in bad need of another parking deck.‎ C.The government doesn't value local businesses.‎ D.The government doesn't pay Mr.Weyland fairly.‎ ‎14.What does the underlined part “in the public's best interest” in Paragraph 4 mean?‎ A.To the public's biggest advantage. B.Bringing money for the public.‎ C.Causing great public concern. D.In the public's demand.‎ ‎15.For what purpose is the text written?‎ A.To stress the importance of an ice cream shop.‎ B.To argue against building a new parking deck.‎ C.To accuse the government of closing an ice cream shop.‎ D.To persuade the government to care more about the public.‎ 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Things to stop doing if you want to exercise How many times have you been told doing exercise is great? Yet, we regularly spend time not exercising. However, there are several things you can stop doing to help you make up your mind to exercise.‎ Stop waiting to feel like exercising. After 20 years of exercise, it's a rare morning that I really feel like getting out of bed at 5:30 for a workout (锻炼). 16 So, why do I do it? It isn't the wish to exercise that gets me out of bed, but a combination of habit and discipline.‎ Stop setting unrealistic goals. Yes, it seems like working out for a week or two should produce a good result — your pants should be falling off your body after all that pain and suffering. The reality is a little less than thrilling. 17 Sometimes it's even worse — you may actually gain weight. This usually lasts for a limited time, but it's still no fun to experience.‎ Stop making excuses. We can all come up with tons of reasons to leave exercise out. We're ‎ too busy. We're tired. 18 Strangely enough, people who exercise have the same problems, but they somehow manage to exercise every day.‎ ‎19 If there's one thing that's certain in life, it's that we will fail. You are likely to fail in taking exercise. It's not that you are weak. 20 There will be times when you're sick, injured, on vacation or going through something that forces you to give up your exercise program. It's just what happens. The trick isn't to try to be perfect, but to allow for those times in your life when you just can't work out.‎ A.Stop being afraid to fail.‎ B.I don't even want to get up at all.‎ C.We really need to clean out the car.‎ D.Stop waiting for the perfect time to exercise.‎ E.Too often, we wait for the reason to exercise.‎ F.It's simply that you can't expect to be able to exercise all the time.‎ G. Sometimes, nothing much happens except sore muscles and disappointment.‎ 第二部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ Appeal to Emotion My childhood left three months ago on a plane to Austria.‎ It was a 21 day when my baby cousins moved away. My cousins were a fundamental part of my life, 22 they were not with me, they were on my mind. They brought back the untroubled days of my childhood, 23 games, adventures and silliness, but they also helped 24 me from an attimes selfish teenager into a responsible adult.‎ My aunt and uncle moved here from Boston with their 1yearold daughter Yasmeen. They lived in an apartment on the side of our house and I was 25 to have our family, especially a baby girl, so close to us. Yasmen had close friendship with each of my sisters, but I knew the one that 26 between us was the strongest. As she began to walk on her own and talk in full sentences, I realized my great 27 upon her. I noticed that she'd 28 some of my unpleasant actions, 29 with her mother after I had done the same.
