As she once said of herself, "I would never sit back in a rocking chair, waiting for someone to help me." No one could have had a more productive old age. She was born on a farm in New York State, one of five boys and five girls. At twelve she left home and was in domestic (家庭的) service until, at twenty-seven, she married Thomas Moses, the hired hand of one of her employers. They farmed most of their lives, first in Virginia and then in New York State, at Eagle Bridge. She had ten children, of whom five survived; her husband died in 1927. Grandma Moses painted a little as a child and made embroidery (刺绣) pictures as a hobby, but only changed to oils in old age because her hands had become too stiff to sew and she wanted to keep busy and pass the time. Her pictures were first sold at a local market and were soon noticed by a businessman who bought everything she painted. Three of the pictures were exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, and in 1940 she had her first exhibition in New York. Between the 1930s and her death she produced some 2,000 pictures: detailed and lively portrayals of the country life she had known for so long, with a wonderful sense of colour and form. "I think really hard till I think of something really pretty, and then I paint it." she said. 35.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A.Moses and her children B.Moses and her childhood C.An introduction to Moses’ life D.An introduction to Moses’ marriage 36. Grandma Moses spent most of her life _________. A. nursing B. farming C. painting D. embroidering 37. The underlined word “portrayals ” in the last paragraph means________. A. directions B. descriptions C. surveys D. stages 38. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. Grandma Moses: Her Life and Pictures. B. The Children of Grandma Moses. C. Grandma Moses: Her Best Exhibition. D. Grandma Moses and Other Older Artists. C Do you jump out of bed early, wide awake and ready to start your day?If so, you would be called an “early bird”. Perhaps, you hate the sound of your alarm clock each morning and have little energy until afternoon. If so, you're probably a “night owl”. Most people can be divided into such two groups, but what makes us this way?And is one better than the other? There are different opinions. Usually, early risers have been praised as hard-working while those who prefer to get up late are considered lazy. Most people believe the early bird catches the worm. Yet some scientists now believe “night owls” can really focus longer and produce more than early risers. Research has found that the early bird does not always get the worm. In a Belgian study, both “morning people” and “evening people” were watched during their normal asleep and awake routines(常规).After 10 hours of being awake, the “evening people” became more alert. However, the “morning people” became sleepy and less focused. Researchers believe the reason for this difference is that night owls receive a last-minute increase from their brains. This added energy allows them to stay alert for longer periods of time. Environment, lifestyle, activities and childhood routines all may have an effect on sleeping habits, yet genetics(遗传学)may play the biggest role. It is possible to change your sleeping habits through regular bedtimes, early exercise and by avoiding midnight snacks. But if you're happy rising early or staying up late, you're probably doing what works best for your own personal body clock. 39. The author introduces the subject by ________. A. telling an interesting story B. giving different opinions C. showing research results D. asking a question 40. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 really mean? A. Those who get up early achieve their goals. B. Early to bed, early to rise is good for health. C. “Night owls” can focus longer than “early birds”. D. “Early birds” are as hard-working as “night owls”. 41. What did the researchers find in a Belgian study? A. Late risers become sleepier than early risers. B. Early risers become as focused as later risers. C. Late risers can think quickly after being awaken for 10 hours. D. Early risers can think clearly after being awake for 10 hours. 42. What opinion does the author finally agree to? A. People should get up early. B. Whatever time suits you, it’s OK. C. Staying up late is good for health. D. It’s impossible to change one’s sleeping habit. 第二节 根据短文内容,从短文中的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为 多余项。(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) As is often the case, you are trying hard to keep your eyes open in class after a late night doing piles and piles of homework, “ 43 ” You are probably thinking, “ This weekend I’ll make up for all the sleep I have lost.” __44 Most people think the same way---if you stay in bed longer on Saturdays or Sundays, you will recover your missed sleep during the week. However, this is not correct. 45 Actually, researchers have just discovered that sleeping during the weekend will not do you any good, but rather make you feel more tired on Monday morning. Our body keeps a clock inside. It tells us when to wake up in the morning and when to feel sleepy at night. But the time on our body clock can be changed once we start taking on different sleeping habits. 46 This may mean on Monday morning we sometimes struggle to get out of bed. If we decide to get up only 20 minutes or half an hour later, it won’t matter. This is because our body clock can accommodate(顺应) a delay of up to an hour, which means that a short lie-in at weekends is unlikely to have any big effect, we needn’t worry about it at all. 47 So, what should we do to balance and make up for all the sleep we’ve missed? Scientists say that simply eight hours of sleep would do the trick, not any longer. A. You are not alone. B. I need more sleep! C. Sleep is important for everyone. D. Sleeping is nothing like paying back money. E. However, if we sleep longer our sleep becomes less efficient. F. But delays of up to two hours or more can throw our body out of order. G. This is why staying in bed for longer than usual might confuse our body clock. 第三部分:英语知识运用 第一节 完形填空 (共20小题,每小题1.5分,共30分) 阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,从每小题所给的A,B,C,D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 I remember the first day when I saw Sally playing basketball.I watched in wonder as she struggled her way through the crowd of boys on the playground. She seemed so 48 ,but she managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net.The boys always tried to stop her 49 nobody could.
