‎ A Just imagine lying down on your bed in a hotel room with fishes quietly paying you a visit. These rooms are quite comfortable and give the guests a unique one-to-one interaction(互动) with marine animals.‎ CONRAD MALDIVES RANGALI ISLAND RESORT Now many people have a fear of water, which leads to their anxiety problems. If you are this kind of people, but still want to experience marine activities around you, then Maldives is the place for you. This is not exactly located underwater but yes, Conrad has a dining room underwater that offers some great food with marine activities happening around.‎ ‎21. To introduce beautiful places for holidays.‎ B. To explain do’s and don’ts in special hotels.‎ C. To support underwater activities during vacations.‎ D. To share interesting underwater hotels with tourists.‎ B It isn’t unusual for Hannah Murphy to arrive at workplace and find that her classroom or work building has no power. In some parts of the world, this might be an excuse to put off or cancel classes. However, Murphy, who is among the U.S.‎ educators teaching abroad in the English Language Fellow Program, is used to experiencing this situation.‎ ‎“My team is in Mekelle‎, ‎Ethiopia. I work at Mekelle‎ ‎University. Now I am teaching freshmen, who are always fun and ready to take part in classroom activities. I feel happy with them,” Murphy explained. “I take the mini-bus to work, greet the university guards(门卫) and come into my office. Then I go to the classroom buildings. Students are often waiting in the classroom when I arrive, and then we begin moving desks around and get ready to start class.”‎ ‎“I was originally encouraged to apply for the English Language Fellowship by David Bell, my teacher then,” she said. “I’m thankful that he encouraged and supported me throughout the application, interview and acceptance process.” Since Murphy came to Mekelle, she has kept in touch with three of her Western instructors: Gloria, Joanne and Carla. “They were important in my work. They continuously offered advice, and shared their experience with me,” said Murphy.‎ Although Murphy’s first 10-month Fellowship is to end this summer, she will continue to share her teaching in Ethiopia. She has accepted an offer for a second 10-month Fellowship in Ethiopia.‎ ‎“I immediately fell in love with Ethiopia. Everyone I met was unbelievably generous and wanted to make sure I felt safe and happy. Of course there was a period when I wasn’t used to my new life here. However, I have some local friends who helped me deal with cultural differences, as well as other friends who taught me the language,” she said.‎ 24. How does Murphy probably feel when her work building has no power?‎ A. Scared B. Surprised C. Nervous D. Calm 25. After this summer, Murphy is likely to ________.‎ A. share her teaching in her own country B. write a book about her experience C. continue working in ‎Ethiopia D. travel to other countries 26. When Murphy first arrived in Ethiopia, she _______.‎ A. got used to the life there quickly B. could hardly find anyone to help her C. met many problems in culture and language D. had little trouble communicating with local people 27. The passage mainly talks about ________.‎ A. the terrible living conditions in ‎Ethiopia B. Murphy’s teaching experience in ‎Ethiopia C. Murphy’s special ways of teaching in ‎Ethiopia D. The cultural differences faced by Murphy in ‎Ethiopia C With climate change and overfishing threatening our oceans, it is becoming increasingly important for researchers to closely observe and check sea animals and plants. However, it’s almost impossible to make it since human presence scares the animals. Now, thanks to the robot, aka SoFi, researchers may be able to solve the problem.‎ Built by MIT’s laboratory, the snow-white remote-controlled robot simulates fish, complete with a flexible(灵活的) tail that moves from side to side and two “fins(鳍)”.‎ When the robot is under the sea, a motor is pumping water into a pair of balloon-like rooms located in the robot’s tail. These rooms operate similarly to the key parts in engines. As one room expand, the tail bends(弯曲) to one side; when the motor pushes water to the other channel, the tail bends in the other direction. Thus the robot gains the ability to move to where it wants to go.‎ SoFi solves many of the problems that have affected the usefulness of previous(以前的) robots—some types of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs).‎ AUVs traditionally often have had to be tied to a boat because radio frequency communications do not work well underwater. So researchers use sound waves. The new technology can travel greater distances, allowing drivers, by using a controller, to pilot SoFi from up to 50 feet away. SoFi can move around the ocean, unaffected by ropes. Also limiting traditional AUVs’ usefulness is the danger of hitting something, like hard stones. With the outside made of rubber and plastic that can keep its built-in electronics dry, SoFi can effectively avoid hitting. So a soft robot is more likely to survive a potential crisis.‎ During test dives in Rainbow Reef, SoFi swam alongside the unsuspecting ocean life at depths of 50 feet for up to 40 minutes at a time, obtaining high-quality photos and videos. More importantly, it was able to do so without causing any disturbance. Researchers say sometimes the fish would swim alongside the strange-looking robot in curiosity(好奇), while at other times they appeared to completely ignore its existence. “It’s not perfect, but we’re improving it. Our efforts will pay off,” says Robert Katzschmann.‎ ‎28. The robot SoFi is created to ______.‎ A. observe climate change B. catch fish and observe them C. help to monitor sea creatures D. prevent overfishing in oceans ‎29. What does the underlined word “simulates” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?‎ A. Is modeled after. B. Is designed for. ‎ C. Is connected with. D. Is applied to.‎ ‎30. What’s Paragraph 3 mainly about?‎ A. The shape of SoFi. B. The application of SoFi.‎ C. The structure of SoFi’s tail D. The theory of SoFi movement.‎ ‎31. The materials for SoFi’s outside help SoFi to _______.‎ A. stay safe underwater B. take high-quality photos C. stay deeper under the sea D. better attract sea creatures D From now on, never spend your precious time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings. Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. Only you have the power to make those seeds grow. The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the most awesome machine ever created: the human mind. Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You can be a success only if you make the right choice. You cannot be successful without first developing your self-esteem(自尊). Your level of self-esteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-esteem are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are leaves tossed (摇摆) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather. You can control your life only to the degree that you believe that you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. ‎ Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance. Successful people realize that they are responsible. Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause, we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for letting out expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence. In short, in all areas of your life, whether they be financial, physical, emotional, or spiritual, you are responsible. Once you recognize this, accept it, and firmly believe it, you are on the road to success. ‎ ‎32. People with low self-esteem are compared to leaves because they______. A. are easily affected by windy weather ‎ A. are ready to change their minds  C. don’ t have the power to face their fate ‎ D. can’t control themselves 33. Losers would think that ______. A. their failure is only because of bad luck ‎ B. they don’t make efforts to succeed C. working hard will lead to success ‎ D. success is the result of hard work 34. It can be inferred from paragraph 5 that______. A. success is a chance ‎ B. we are what we make us C. thoughts and beliefs are the result of creative mind D. developing confidence is the only way to future success  35. The last paragraph serves as______. A. the proof of the author's points B. an introduction to another ‎ topic C. the conclusion of the argument D. a comparison between two views 第一节 ‎ (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ How do you feel about exams? And don’t forget to drink lots of water. Some research even suggests students who take water into the exam hall may even improve their grades.‎ A good night’s sleep can help you work and think better next day when you are preparing for exams. If you get good sleep, your memory is better. You can remember the information you have reviewed. 38 ‎ Preparing for exams can also sometimes seem non-stop. 39 There comes a point when your brain can’t absorb any more information, so you’ll also need to know when to stop.‎ ‎ 40 They’re there to support you but they’ll be biting their fingernails, worrying about you and the final results.
