We lived just inside the city limits in what was still a rural area.‎ In the spring of 1948, when I was 6 years old, my parents bought a calf(小牛)to replace our cow, which had been killed the year before. So one day we drove to a local farm and returned with a white and brown calf we named Tubby.‎ We didn’t own a truck, so Tubby rode home in the backseat of Dad’s car with my 9-year-old brother, Steve, and me. As you can imagine, the trip was a lot of fun for us kids.‎ Later that summer, Mom thought it would be cute to take a picture of me sitting on Tubby’s back. All went well until the snap of the camera shutter sent Tubby charging off on a run, with me holding on for dear life. I lasted for about 30 feet before I hit the ground. Mom was quick enough to shoot a follow-up picture, so we had photos of me both on and off Tubby!‎ When summer had passed, the day arrived for poor Tubby to fill our freezer. I must have been somewhere else with my Mom on the fateful day, because I have no memory of how it happened. All I knew was that the barn was empty, and that we had plenty of meat for dinners.‎ I hadn’t lived on a farm like my mother, so I didn’t understand that what happened to Tubby was not unusual. Livestock aren’t meant to be pets, and most farm kids know and accept that truth.‎ Whenever we had beef for dinner, I would tearfully ask, “Is this Tubby?” This went on for a couple of weeks until Dad had finally had enough and declared, “No more cows!” That made me feel a little better about poor Tubby.‎ ‎24.The writer’s parents bought Tubby so that ____.‎ A.the family would have enough meat to eat ‎ B.it would provide their children with milk.‎ C.they would have more cows in the future D.they would no longer feel lonely on the farm.‎ ‎25.Which word can be used to describe the author’s mom?‎ A.Serious. B.Strong-willed. C.Quick-minded. D.Careless.‎ ‎26.We learn from the passage that _____.‎ A.Steve was not so fond of Tubby as his younger brother.‎ B.the author’s mom thought it natural to kill a cow for meat.‎ C.the author had much trouble with Tubby in the summer.‎ D.the author was pleased to see their freezer filled with beef.‎ C Women are friendly. But men are more competitive. Why? Researchers have found it’s all down to the hormone oxytocin (荷尔蒙催生素). Although known as the love hormone, it affects the sexes differently.‎ ‎“Women tend to be social in their behavior. They often share with others. But men tend to be competitive. They are trying to improve their social status,” said Professor Ryan.‎ Generally, people believe that the hormone oxytocin is let out in our body in various social situations and our body creates a large amount of it during positive social interactions such as falling in love or giving birth.‎ But in a previous experiment Professor Ryan found that the hormone is also let out in our body during negative social interactions such as envy.‎ Further researches showed that in men the hormone oxytocin improves the ability to recognize competitive relationships, but in women it raises the ability to recognize friendship.‎ Professor Ryan’s recent experiment used 62 men and women aged 20 to 37. Half of the participants received oxytocin. The other half received placebo(安慰剂).‎ After a week, the two groups switched with participants. They went through the same procedure with the other material.‎ Following each treatment, they were shown some video pictures with different social interactions. Then they were asked to analyze the relationships by answering some questions. The questions were about telling friendship from competition. And their answers should be based on gestures, body language and facial expressions.‎ The results indicated that, after treatment with oxytocin, men’s ability to correctly recognize competitive relationships improved, but in women it was the ability to correctly recognize friendship that got better.‎ Professor Ryan thus concluded: “Our experiment proves that the hormone oxytocin can raise people’s abilities to better distinguish different social interactions. And the behavior differences between men and women are caused by biological factors that are mainly hormonal.”‎ ‎27.What causes men and women to behave differently according to the text?‎ A.Placebo. B.The social st C.The gesture. D.Oxytocin.‎ ‎28.What can we learn from Professor Ryan’s previous experiment?‎ A.Our body produces oxytocin when we feel unhappy about others’ success.‎ B.Our body lets out oxytocin when we are deep in love.‎ C.Oxytocin affects our behavior in a different way.‎ D.Oxytocin improves our abilities to understand people’s behavior differences.‎ ‎29.Why did Professor Ryan conduct the recent experiment?‎ A.To know people’s different abilities to answer questions.‎ B.To know the differences between friendship and competition.‎ C.To test the effect of oxytocin on the ability to recognize social interactions.‎ D.To test people’s understanding of body language.‎ ‎30.The author develops the text by________.‎ A.discussing research experiments B.describing his own experiences C.distinguishing sexual differences D.explaining people’s behaviors 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Getting your children to study can be a little like getting them to eat their vegetables. ‎ ‎31_______Make a study time and have it at the same time every day. Students who feel anxious are likely to experience problems like difficulty in concentrating while studying, confusion, feeling stressed while looking at difficult questions, feeling blank, sweating, sleeplessness etc.Under such circumstances, they end up scoring less than they could have. Therefore, it’s extremely important for students to learn about how to overcome fear,so that they can take their examination confidently, finally earning good grades. Here are a few tips on ways to overcome exam fear.‎ There are many students who take studies lightly, leaving everything to be studied at the last minute. As a result, when exams are around the corner, they feel scared, as they don’t know where to start, and what to study. So the easiest way of overcoming this problem is to start studying much before the exam. Another common mistake that many students make is that they don’t make an effort to understand the subject. When they have memorized things without understanding them, the chances of forgetting are more. Therefore, it is vital to understand the concept before memorizing it. In this way,you will never forget any important point. Besides, that the exams are coming does not mean that you have to sit with your books for the entire day,and students should ‎ take regular breaks to relax and refresh their minds. However, they should avoid watching too much TV and addicting themselves to the Internet, in which way, they are more likely to waste time.‎ Apart from the tips above, here are some points that will help students cope with exam-related anxiety. For example, before the exam, avoid studying anything new or having conversations with your classmates about what they have studied and how much they have studied, both of which will make you more nervous. During the exam, if you get blank after seeing difficult questions, ignore them for the time being, and deal with those you find easier. Once you have completed them, go back to the difficult ones.‎ ‎【参考答案】‎ 第一部分:听力(每小题1分,共20分)‎ ‎1-5 CCBBC 6-10 ABCBC 11-15 BCCAB 16-20 CCBBA ‎ 第二部分 ‎ 阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)‎ 第一节 A篇:21.D; 22.C; 23.B B篇:24.A; 25.C; 26.B; C篇:27.D; 28.A; 29.C; 30.A 第二节 七选五 ‎31-35 D E B F C 第三部分 ‎ 语言应用 ‎ 第一节 完形填空 ‎ ‎36-40 BCADA 41-45BCDBC 46-50DBACD 51-55ACABD 第二节: 语法填空 ‎ 56. are hurt 57. to remove 58 of 59 has shown 60. less ‎ ‎61. who 62. energetic 63. apologizing 64. what 65. yourself 第四部分 写作 ‎ 第一节 应用文写作 ‎ Dear Sir or Madam,‎ I’m a senior high school student from China. It is time to experience new things and studies alone do not satisfy the students. This is where out-of-class activities come in. These activities range from clubs, organizations and groups to sports. They are all directed by students themselves. Each organization has an advisor, but student members plan all activities and events. In a university there are as many as hundreds of student organizations for students to choose from. Each student is sure to have a club or group that fits his needs or interests. The clubs range from religion to community service, sports and hobbies. For example, there are ski clubs, yoga clubs, dance clubs, etc. If you cannot find a club that you are interested in, you can have an idea for a new club, and form one yourself. All you have to do is to pass the idea through the school and find an advisor and if the school agrees, you’ll have a new student organization!‎ Clubs and organizations help students explore their interests, which may turn into lifelong hobbies or even become their careers in life.‎
