A The Red Cross is an international organization which cares for people who are in need of help. The Red Cross exists in almost every country around the globe. The world Red Cross organizations are sometimes called the Red Crescent, the Red Mogen Daid, the Sun, and the Red Lion. All of these agencies share a common goal of trying to help people in need. The idea of forming an organization to help the sick and wounded during a war started with Jean Henri Dunant. In 1859, he observed how people were suffering on a battlefield in Italy. He wanted to help all the wounded people regardless of which side they were fighting for. The most important result of his work was an international treaty called the Geneva Convention(协定). It protects prisoners of war, the sick and wounded, and other citizens during a war. The American Red Cross was set up by Clara Barton in 1881. They study grammar rules and take grammar tests. They use an analytical approach, attempting to memorize, and then apply, a great number of rules. However, research has proved this method inefficient and ineffective. The truth is, the human brain simply cannot consciously remember, process, and use hundreds of or thousands of grammar rules. Real speech is too fast. Native speakers do not learn grammar in this way, but rather intuitively (凭直觉地) and unconsciously. They learn in a complete way, not by attempting to memorize individual grammar rules. As a result, native speakers use correct grammar fluently and easily. Fortunately, it is possible for English learners to learn grammar this way. Language teacher Blaine Ray has developed a unique "intuitive" approach to teach English grammar. Her system uses "point of view" stories to teach the patterns of English grammar, allowing students unconsciously to acquire correct grammar without ever studying grammar rules. In this system, the teacher first tells a simple story from one point of view. It may be told about the past, then repeated, but beginning with "since he was a child"; then repeated again, but this time about the future. Listening to these stories allows students intuitively and effortlessly to learn English grammar and makes them be able to use it correctly when they speak. Point of View Stories is a creative new way to study English grammar, and offers hope to millions of frustrated English learners. 5. Which of the following ways is approved by the author? A. Remembering grammar rules. B.Applying language to situations. C. Analyzing grammatical structure. D. Taking grammar tests. 6. What does the underlined part "this way" in the fourth paragraph refer to? A. Talking to native speakers when learning. B. Using correct English grammar. C. Learning English grammar in a complete way. D. Learning English grammar from a teacher. 7. From this passage we learn that ______. A. native speakers learn English grammar by listening to stories B. Blaine Ray’s method gets students to grasp correct grammar unconsciously C. A. introduce a new way to study English grammar B. criticize the traditional way of learning grammar C. ask students to learn English grammar by listening to stories D. tell us how the native speakers learn English grammar C Justin Bieber is only fifteen years old and has become very popular already. The experience can be very bad for kids, who may not be a part of the decision to move and may not understand it. You can take steps to make the entire process (过程) easier for everyone. Many kids like to stay in familiar places. So as you consider a move, weigh the benefits (好处) of that change against the comfort that neighborhood, school, and social life give your kids. If your family has recently dealt with a big life change, such as death, you may want to put off a move to give your children time to accept the fact. The decision to move may be out of your hands, perhaps because of a new job or money problems. Even if you’re not happy about the move, try to keep a positive (积极的) attitude to it. During the move, a parent’s attitude can greatly influence kids. No matter what the results are, the most important way to prepare kids to move is to talk about it. Try to give your children as much information about the move as possible. You can ask kids to join in the planning such as house-hunting or the search for a new school. This can make the change feel less like it’s being forced on them. If you’re moving across town, try to take your children to visit the new house and the new neighborhood. A move can have many problems, but good things also come from this kind of change. Your family might grow closer and you may learn more about each other by going through it together. 13. In which situation does the author advise to put off a move? A. The child’s birthday is coming. B. A family member has died. C. The new neighborhood isn’t safe. D. The parents have money problems. 14. Which is the most important when making the move easier for children? A. Allowing them to choose a school by themselves. B. Trying not to show them the bad parts of a move. C. Offering them as much information as possible. D. Promising to choose a new house with them. 15. The author wrote this text mainly to tell us ______. A. what we should do before a move B. how to prepare children for a move C. how a move can change the family D. why parents should talk to children often 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 _16_ One of the best things you can possibly do is to start your own club.
