These findings come from a new report in the journal Nature.‎ ‎ David Tillman, a professor of ecology at the University of Minnesota, America, examined information from 100 countries to identify what people ate and how diet affected health. He noted a movement beginning in the 1960s. He found that as nations industrialized, population increased and earnings rose, more people began to adopt what has been called the Western diet.‎ ‎ The Western diet is high in sugar, fat, oil and meat. By eating these foods, people began to get fatter and sicker. David Tillman says overweight people are at greater risk for non-infectious diseases like diabetes(糖尿病) and heart disease.‎ ‎ Unfortunately when people become industrialized, if they adopt this Western diet, they are going to have these health problems, especially in developing countries in Asia. China is an example where the number of diabetes cases has been jumping from less than one percent to 10‎ ‎ percent of the population as they began to industrialize over a 20-year period. And that is happening all across the world, in Mexico, in Nigeria and so on.‎ ‎ And, a diet bad for human beings, is also bad for the environment. As the world's population grows, more forests and tropical(热带的) areas will become farmland for crops or grasslands for cattle. We are likely to have more greenhouse gas in the future from agriculture than that coming out of all forms of transportation right now.‎ ‎ Mr. Tillman calls the link between diet, the environment and human health, "a trilemma": a problem offering a difficult choice. He says one possible settlement is leaving the Western diet behind.‎ ‎25. Which of the following is David Tilman’s opinion?‎ A.‎ Diet, the environment and human health are closely connected.‎ B.‎ The Western diet is the only choice as the nation industrializes.‎ C.‎ People in tropical areas are more likely to have heart disease.‎ D.‎ Traditional diets are more balanced than the Western diet.‎ ‎26. What can be inferred from the passage?  .‎ A.‎ Nigeria has the largest number of diabetes cases.‎ B.‎ Overweight people are at higher risk of infectious diseases.‎ C.‎ The examined information comes from developing countries.‎ D.‎ Industrialization contributes to the spread of the Western diet.‎ ‎27. What is the main purpose of this passage?  .‎ A.‎ To call on us to protect the environment.‎ B.‎ To warn us of the danger of the Western diet.‎ C.‎ To remind us of the importance of health.‎ D.‎ To advise us to have a balanced diet.‎ C ‎ China's top labor official said the country is planning to push back the age at which workers can retire.‎ ‎ Yin Weimin, minister of human resources and social security, stated that the government did not put a timetable on the move when he spoke about it during an interview at the weekend. "Delaying the retirement age is a very complex issue and we will study it according to the situations of population and employment and consider different groups of people," Yin said. He noted that hikes in the retirement age have been brought in by many countries and can be a good way to deal with an aging population and contribute to the healthy and stable development of social security.‎ ‎ The life expectancy of Chinese people is now 73 years and is expected to rise to 74 during the next five years, he said. Nearly three out of 10 Chinese people will be older than 60 by 2040, according to a United Nations forecast. The retirement age in China currently (目前)is 60 for men and 55 for women working in the government and 50 for female workers.‎ ‎ The idea of delaying the retirement age is being widely supported by the government officials, while many laborers and non-government employees were less enthusiastic about the possibility of working for longer. Currently, they have to pay into their pension(养老金) plans for at least 15 years before they can retire. Chen Xianlian, a female worker at a motorcycle parts company in Chongqing municipality is among those who would like to see the retirement age unchanged. “I ‎ have to do lots of tough and repetitive work every day and I feel very tired after my working day,” the 41-year-old said. “All my colleagues are discussing the government's possible move to raise the retirement age. None of us wants to work any more years.”‎ University graduates also fear that any rise in the retirement age could limit their employment opportunities.【来源:全,品…中&高*考+网】‎ ‎28.What can we learn from the passage?‎ ‎ A.China is not planning to push back the age at which workers can retire ‎ B.China is probably going to delay the retirement age in the future ‎ C.China is not likely to delay the retirement age in the future D. For five days in a row, the people read either a paper book or an iPad for four hours before sleep. Their sleep patterns were monitored all night. Before and after each trial period, the people took hourly blood tests to paint a day-long picture of just how much melatonin (褪黑激素)was in their blood at any given time.‎ When subjects(被试者) read on the iPad as compared to the paper books, they reported feeling less sleepy at night and less active the following morning. People also took longer to fall asleep on the iPad nights, and the blood tests showed that their melatonin secretion(分泌)was delayed by an hour and a half.‎ The researchers conclude in today’s journal article that because of the rise of e-readers and the increasingly widespread use of e-things among children and adolescents, more research into the long-term consequences of these devices on health and safety is urgently needed. Czeisler and colleagues go on, in the research paper, to note: “Reading an iPad in bed may increase cancer risk.” However, software has been developed that can reduce some of the blue light from the screens of phones and computers according to time of day, and there are also glasses that are made to filter (过滤) short wavelengths. While they seem like a logical solution for the nighttime tech users, it needs more research.‎ ‎32. What were all the subjects asked to do in Charles Czeislers experiment?‎ A. Sit in a row and receive the strict tests.‎ B. Have their sleep patterns observed all night.‎ C. Read a paper book and an iPad at the same time.‎ D. Have their blood tested per hour during the trial.‎ ‎33. What were the iPad readers likely to do according to the third paragraph?‎ A. Feel less sleepy and tired in the day.‎ B. Fall asleep more easily after reading.‎ C. Become less energetic the next morning.‎ D. Have a lot more melatonin secretion.【来源:全,品…中&高*考+网】‎ ‎34.
