C Rice farmers in Thailand are facing a large drop in income because of the drop in the price of rice throughout Asia. At the same time, costs to grow the crop(庄稼) are increasing. Farmers arc not sure who to ask for help. Many of them are having a difficult lime this year. Some of them may not even make enough money to pay their costs to grow the crop. Lung Chai is a rice farmer in Chiang Mai. He says the situation has affected all farmers. He says he is losing money, but does not know who to talk to about it. “No one would hear our voice,” he says. Thailand faces strong competition for rice exports(出口) from India and Vietnam. This is partly because of lower pay in neighboring countries and large expected harvests this year. A recent study paid for by the Bank of Thailand said Thai farmers should be trained to portend market changes, so that they would know what to do next. Singhachai Boonyayotin is a senior director of the Bank of Thailand. He said Thailand should produce other products besides white rice to compete with Vietnam and Cambodia. Wachirajak Nin-khuntod wanted to help his father who is a rice farmer. He began selling crops on the Internet as a way to increase income. He said, "My parents didn’t believe that I would be able to sell rice on social media, as most farmers believe we can sell rice to middlemen or rice factories only." Now, he says, his parents know that they can sell their own rice without a middleman. Perhaps other farmers in Thailand can also do that. It might be a good way to help them out. 28.What is troubling Thai rice farmers now? A.Their harvests greatly drop this year. B.They can't find rice factories to sell the crop. C.They are having a difficult time in growing crops. D.They make too little or no money out of their harvests. 29.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “portend” in Paragraph 4? D.They were strongly against it. 31.What may be the suggestions to help Thai farmers according to the text? ①Selling crops online. ②Growing different kinds of crops. ③Reducing crop prices to sell them. ④Gaining information on market changes. ⑤Reducing rice exports to other countries. A. ①②③ B.①③⑤ C.①②④ D.②③④ D Gallows humor(黑色幽默) may seem like a mistake, or at least in poor taste. But psychologists say that gallows humor can be an important way to relieve stress. “Humor makes you feel in control and it can give you the feeling that everything is okay even when it’s not,” says James M. Jones, a psychology professor at the University of Delaware. Psychologists say that just because you’re laughing doesn’t mean you’re wasting time. Occasional teasing among colleagues, particularly if it revolves around things associated with the job, can boost creativity, departmental cohesiveness(凝聚力) and performance. “There are a lot of stressors out there,” says Ed Dunkelblau,a psychologist with the Institute for Emotionally Intelligent Learning in Chicago. “But gallows humor is a way of making difficult things a little less difficult." This is true as long as the humor is used for the right purpose. The main point of it should be inspiring people—not laughing at them. “Anything that would lift morale(士气) in terms of the company would be good humor," says Thierry Guedj, a professor of business and psychology at Boston University. “Before you say or do anything, think about, ‘How is this helping my employees’ morale? You want to give your employees and co-workers a sense of belonging, so don’t make observations that are aggressive. Most obviously. Dr. Guedj says, don't make comments about people's physical appearance, or faith. If you have any doubt, it's appropriate, don't go through with it. Or you can take aim at the person that you know won’t be offended(冒犯):Yourself. “If there’s going to be a joke or story, it should be you,” Mr. Dunkelblau says. For example, if you're a marketing manager reviewing a failed campaign that you led, begin with a line like, “The guy who gave permission to this deal might just be looking for work next week." “People with the ability to laugh at themselves can give other people permission to laugh at themselves too," Mr. Jones says. “And if you can laugh at yourself, you feel better about yourself." 32.According to the text, gallows humor has the following functions EXCEPT ________. A.reducing pressure B.improving performance C.making people more creative D.leading to a big mistake 33.Which of the following would Dr. Guedj most probably agree with? A.Gallows humor is the basic source of morale. B.Gallows humor allows people to laugh at others. C.Gallows humor may sometimes be used for the wrong purpose. D.Anything that may lift morale can be called gallows humor. 34.When people use gallows humor, they should _____. A.observe who is aggressive B.show a sense of belonging C.doubt about the result of humors D.try to avoid irritating others 35.What can we infer from the text? A.People tend to laugh at others rather than themselves. B.Laughing at ourselves can help relieve the stress of others. C.People can't avoid offending others with gallows humor. D.People who laugh at themselves are hard to be friends with. 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 What do the world's most successful people all have in common? Dear Tom, I am writing to tell you about some symptoms of anxiety among us students before exams. Most of us feel nervous whenever we’re taking an important exam. Some will feel dizzy or tired, some will suffer from lack of sleep, and some will lose their appetite. In fact, all these symptoms have terrible effects on our exams and we are all eager to get rid of them. First of all, in my opinion, it’s important for us to have a fight attitude towards exams. They are only a means of checking how we are getting along with our studies, so there is no need to worry too much about the results. Study hard every day and make careful plans for every exam. In this way we can avoid suffering from the pressure of exams.Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to perform well in an exam. Therefore, during the period of exams, we should not stay up too late. We can also try a warm bath or a cup of warm milk before going to bed. They might help us to have a sound sleep. We’d better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercises before and during an exam so that we can keep ourselves relaxed and then concentrate ourselves on exams. Yours sincerely, Li Hua查看更多
