It's the spirit of America, easy to understand, slow and simple.‎ Country music developed in the Southern United States. It was the folk music of American countryside. Many of songs tell about the lives of farmers. They talk about love, crops or death.‎ The life of the countryside can be hard, so the words in country music are often sad. At first, people played the music only at family parties. But it became more popular later. In the 1920s, people played country songs on the radio, and they made them into records.‎ When people in the countryside moved to towns and cities to look for work, they took their music with them. Country music continued to change and became popular across America.‎ John Denver was one of America's most famous country singers in the 1970s.His song Take Me Home, Country Roads is wellknown and people still play it today.‎ ‎24.Country music is usually about .‎ A.everyday life and feelings B.farmers' feelings C.the lives of workers D.the lives of farmers ‎25.People began to make country song records _______ .‎ A.in the 1920s B.in 1920 C.in the 1970s D.in 1970‎ ‎26.Why did country music become popular in America?‎ A.Because city people liked the music.‎ B.Because farmers moved to cities with their music and it continued to change.‎ C.Because country music talked about city people's lives.‎ D.Because country music developed in the Southern Africa.‎ ‎27.Who is famous for the song Take Me Home, Country Roads?‎ A.A farmer in the countryside. ‎ B.A person who moved to towns.‎ C.John Denver. ‎ D.John Denver's brother.‎ C ‎ Recently I and other Red Cross volunteers met a group of victims from Hurricane Katrina. As we walked in the gate to the shelter,we were greeted with a burst of gratitude (感激) from the first person we met. I felt appreciated, but also guilty, because I hadn’t really done anything yet.‎ ‎ I first realized the power of presence many years ago when a friend’s mother passed away unexpectedly. I had received a call saying she had just passed away. I wanted to rush down there immediately, but didn’t want to intrude(打扰)on this very personal period of sadness. I was torn about what to do. Another friend with me then said,“Just go. Just be there.” I did,and I will never regret it.‎ ‎ Since then,I have not hesitated to be in the presence of others. Once I sat at the bedside of a young man suffering from the pain of his AIDS-related dying. He was not awake, and obviously unaware of others’ presence. However, the atmosphere was by no means solemn. His family, playing guitars and singing, allowed him to be present with them as though he were still fully alive.‎ ‎ In my life,I am repeatedly struck by the healing power of presence. The family harmony is the happiest thing in life. ‎ D. Being a volunteer can make one’s life more significant.‎ D Schools across the world are trying to come up with solutions to keep students active. Some are replacing traditional classroom chairs with exercise balls or standing desks. At Ward Elementary School in Winston‎, ‎North Carolina students have adopted a new program that requires riding fixed bikes while reading.‎ ‎‘Read and Ride’ is the creation of school counselor Scott Ertl, who came up with the idea while he was exercising and reading at the gym. Believing it would be a fun way to convince students to become more active, he placed one in the corner of his classroom and encouraged them to use it during independent reading classes.‎ It was so popular that Ertl decided to add more bikes and offer the Read and Ride program to the entire school. Today Ward Elementary has a dedicated exercise room filled with bikes that can be used by students while completing their daily reading assignments.‎ Besides making reading more fun, the program also helps students exercise at a comfortable pace without the pressure that comes with regular sports-related activities. It is also a perfect way to release energy during days when the weather is not helpful to outdoor activities.‎ Most importantly, however, are the program’s academic benefits. A year after Read and Ride was introduced at Ward‎ ‎Elementary School, students actively involved in the program demonstrated an astonishing 83% reading proficiency. Those that had not taken advantage of the exercise bikes tested at a much lower, 41%. ‎ Though the substantial improvement in academic achievement cannot all be attributed to programs like Read and Ride, experts believe they are a significant contributor. That’s because studies have shown that physical activity stimulates(刺激) brain cells and helps prepare it for learning. As word of the difference made by this easy to execute exercise program spreads, don’t be surprised to find schools across the country adopt “Read and Ride” for their students. ‎ ‎32. What is the new program at Ward‎ ‎Elementary School?‎ ‎ A. Kids ride bikes as they read.‎ ‎ B. Kids excise balls and read at the gym.‎ ‎ C. Kids sit at desks for long while reading.‎ ‎ D. Kids do outdoor activities during lessons.‎ ‎33. How do the students at Ward‎ ‎Elementary School benefit from the program?‎ ‎ A. They exercise with high pressure.‎ ‎ B. They feel reading fun and learn better.‎ ‎ C. They improve their sense of competition.‎ ‎ D. They are instructed to read at the same pace.‎ ‎34. What can we learn from the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. The program will be more and more popular.‎ ‎ B. Schools doubt whether the program is available. ‎ ‎ C. Physical activities prevent kids from learning more.‎ ‎ D. The school achievement depends wholly on the program.‎ ‎35. What would be the best title of the passage?‎ ‎ A. Standing desks help school kids focus on their studies.‎ ‎ B. Traditional teaching should be banned in the near future.‎ ‎ C. ‘Read And Ride’ aims to make students healthier and smarter.‎ ‎ D. Kids need release energy during independent reading classes.‎ ‎.第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Among the teachers in my life, there is one person I called“Old Uncle”.I first met with him a decade ago when I was in primary schoo1. 36 During those rides,Old Uncle told me about his life.‎ ‎ 37 He made a living by riding tricycles(三轮车)and raised the children on his own.His daughter gave up the chance to go to college so that the younger brother would have money to go after his future.Later on,she became a nurse at a hospital through her hard work.‎ ‎ For each ride,Old Uncle should charge me five yuan. However,he insisted on accepting only four from me.In our conversations,he told me to always have a good heart,to be a good student, child and person. 38 More movingly, every time he took me to school,he asked whether I had eaten breakfast and would try to offer me biscuits.‎ ‎ Old Uncle was one of the early people who led me to explore pain and suffering, unintentionally and naturally, through stories and giving. He didn’t complain(抱怨)about the hardships he had suffered in life. 39 Ten years later as I thought back to the scene,I came to realize that Old Uncle and I shared space, and connected through our spirit.40 ‎ A.I knew that Old Uncle lived a difficult life.‎ B.Old Uncle would pay the price for his behavior.‎ C.He took me to school in his tricycle every morning.‎ D.Old Uncle guided me to see the beauty of human nature.‎ E.Instead,he shared peacefully as if they weren’t happening on him.‎ F.His wife had passed away when their two children were still young.‎ G.He said this with so much caring that I listened with my whole heart.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用 (共两节, 满分45分)‎ 第一节(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ Imagine that you’re a whale (鲸鱼), about 25 feet long and weighing thousands of pounds.
