C.. I saw many of our nation’s treasures, and I also saw a lot of unfortunate people like beggars and homeless folks in the streets.‎ Standing outside the Ronald Reagan Center, I heard a voice say, " Can you help me? " When I turned around, I saw an elderly blind woman with her hand extended (伸出). In a natural reaction, I reached into my pocket, pulled out all of my loose change and placed it in her hand. I didn’t even look at her. I was annoyed(恼怒的) at being bothered(烦扰) by a beggar. ‎ But the blind woman smiled and said, "I don’t want your money. I just need help finding the post office. " ‎ Immediately, I realized what I had done. I acted with prejudice (偏见) -I judged another person simply for what I thought she was.‎ The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant(移民). I left Honduras and arrived in America at the age of 15. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, cashier, mechanic and pizza delivery driver among many other jobs, and finally I became a network engineer.‎ In my own life, I have experienced many open acts of prejudice. I remember a time, at age 17-I was a busboy, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well at school, he would end up like me. ‎ But now, living in my American middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to be going. That blind woman on the street of Washington D. C. cured(治愈) me of my blindness. She reminded me to always keep my eyes and heart open. ‎ ‎24.When the author came to America at first ______ . ‎ A. he usually did some work with a little payment. ‎ B. he used to beg for some money on the street. ‎ C. he lived a comfortable life as a network engineer. ‎ D. he was respected by others all the time. ‎ ‎25. The way he treated the blind woman. ‎ D. That he didn’t tell the woman the way to the post office. ‎ ‎26. The father mentioned in the passage wanted ______ . ‎ A. to encourage his son to make a living by himself B. his son to become a busboy in the future C. to remind his son to depend on himself at school D. his son to work harder at school ‎27.We can infer all of the following statements from the passage EXCEPT ______. ‎ A. He disliked being bothered by beggars. ‎ B. He once suffered a lot. ‎ C. He was happy to give away his money to beggars. ‎ D. The blind woman didn’t beg for money at that time. ‎ C My challenge for you is this: to read a book for 15 minutes every single day for a month.‎ Let me explain a bit, by telling you where the challenge came from. I have many things in common with my dad, like music taste and sense of humor, but sadly reading isn’t one of them. I can happily spend a whole day with a book, but my dad can’t read a book for longer than about 5 minutes. He reads emails, websites and papers for work, but not books. He’s busy, so I think sitting down to read for just 15 minutes a day is a good way to relax and to introduce him to reading.‎ My dad is not the only person who avoids books. I know lots of people would rather relax on their computers or in front of the TV. Everyone is different and has their own interests, but I think there are lots of benefits to reading, which screen-based activities don’t have.‎ Firstly, it’s better for your eyes. Looking at screens can be very stressful for your eye muscles, and clearly you should avoid looking at screens for an hour before bed, to get a good night’s sleep.‎ One thing I personally love reading, is being transported to another world—I often forget the time or things around me! Reading is a great way to switch off before you go to bed, because you think more about the world of the book, rather than the real world, so you can truly relax. I know you can be transported to a different world in a film or a TV show, but I think books do it better.‎ I also enjoy hearing what people are doing and finding out what they think. Reading gives me the chance to get to know hundreds of new people! It also teaches you to see things from other people’s point of view, and understand other people’s decisions or opinions. With a book, you can hear everything a character is thinking or feeling—you really can be inside someone else’s head!‎ So give it a go! Take 15 minutes when you are waking up, going to bed, eating lunch, or having a coffee. If you read a lot, why not try 15 minutes of an English book, or pass the challenge on to someone else? Good luck, and happy reading!‎ ‎28.The author mentions his father in the text to show .‎ A. his father is busy B. reading is important C. his father likes reading D. many people have no habit of reading ‎29.The author writes the text mainly based on .‎ A. his personal experience B. some scientific experiments C. his father’s personal advice D. knowledge from books ‎30.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refers to .‎ A. helping readers sleep well B. making readers feel relaxed C. transporting readers to a different world D. reminding readers of the real world ‎31.What is the author’s attitude to reading?‎ A. Negative. B. Uncertain. C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.‎ D ‎“If you want to see a thing well, reach out and touch it!” ‎ That may seem a strange thing to say. But touching things can help you to see them better. ‎ Your eyes can tell you that a glass ball is round. But by holding it in your hands, you can feel how smooth and cool the ball is. You can feel how heavy the glass is. When you feel all these about the ball, you really see it. With your skin (皮肤), you can feel better. For example, your fingers can tell the difference between two coins in your pocket. You can feel a little drop of water on the back of your hand, too. You can even feel sounds against your skin. Have you ever wanted to know why some people like very loud music? They must like to feel the sounds of music.‎ All children soon learn what “Don’t touch!” means. They hear it often. Yet most of us keep on touching things as we grow up. In shops, we touch things we might buy: food, clothes. To see something well, we have to touch it. The bottoms of our feet can feel things, too. You know this when you walk on warm sand, cool grass or a hard floor. All feel different under your feet. ‎ There are ways of learning to see well by feeling. One way is to close your eyes and try to feel everything that is touching your skin. Feel the shoes on your feet, the clothes on your body, the air on your skin. At first, it is not easy to feel these things. You are too used to them! ‎ Most museums are just for looking. But today some museums have some things to touch. Their signs say, “Do touch!” There you can feel everything on show. ‎ If you want to see better, reach out and touch. Then you will really see! ‎ ‎32. By touching things ______. ‎ A. you will have a strange feeling ‎ B. you will learn how to reach out your hand ‎ C. you can learn more about them ‎ D. you can tell what colors they really are ‎ ‎33. You can tell the difference between two coins in your pocket with ______ ‎ A. your fingers. B. your eyes. C. your feet. D. your back. ‎ ‎34. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? ‎ A. Touching is helping us to see things better. ‎ B. We can’t feel the things on show in any museum.‎ C. Feeling things is a good way for us to learn. ‎ D. Our skins may help us to feel the sounds of music. ‎ ‎35. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? ‎ A. Touching by Feeling B.
