Friendship is one of the greatest pleasures that people can enjoy.‎ Several years ago, Amy had been feeling very depressed(沮丧的). She had just broken up with her boyfriend of two years, and she was having a very difficult time accepting the loss. She had been laid up with a knee injury(伤) for several days, and the time alone at home certainly was not helping. Her sadness was only increased by her being discouraged at herself for not being able to cheer up and stop crying all the time. Early one morning, Amy received a phone call with some terrible news: her best friend's brother had been killed in a car accident. Amy had known this friend, Mary, and her brother nearly all her life, and the news was devastating . However, Amy quickly pulled herself together, got in the car, and drove to her friend's house to be there with her. Over the course of the next few days, Amy was 100 percent present for Mary. She held her close while she cried endless tears, sat by her side as the waves of sadness washed over her friend, and slept on the floor next to Mary's bed to make sure she did not wake up alone in the middle of the night. She looked for all the food Mary liked in the streets in Washington D.C. During that time she hardly felt any pain in her knee at all and none of the depression she had been experiencing. Several weeks later, when life began to return to normal. Amy realized that the level of support she had given Mary far greater than any support she had offered herself during her dark time. She was able to use the support she had given her friend as a mirror for the support she had been holding back from herself. She realized that her own tears required as much attention and care from her as anyone else's, and that if she could give it to another, she must be able to also give it to herself. ‎ Since friendship is so valuable, we should be eager(渴望) to find friends. We must choose those who have very good character, superior ability and kind heart. On the other hand, we should avoid those surface people who can be easily estranged by adversity (逆境).‎ ‎( )31. The loss of her boyfriend.‎ ‎ C. The loss of her brother. D. The loss of her lovely dog.‎ ‎( )34. In Paragraph 2, pulled herself together means _____.‎ ‎ A. caught with herself B. controlled herself ‎ C. enjoyed herself D. dressed herself up ‎( )35. What is the best title of the passage?‎ ‎ A. Amy’s Depression B. Bad news C. Help and support D. Value friendship A2‎ A Chinese folk singer has received an apology from a bank after he was refused an account(账户) because of his disability. Typhoons are some of the worst storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. Most happen in July, August and September. How does a typhoon happen? When lots of sea water gets hot in the summer sun, it evaporates(蒸发)into the air. This makes the air hotter. When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move higher up into sky. Then cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left. After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind. The wind goes in circles(圆圈)and it keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer the air gets, the quicker the wind moves. And when the wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins. A typhoon has two parts, one is called the “eye”. In the eye, the wind does not move so fast. The other part is the wall of clouds around the eye. Here are the strongest winds and hardest rains. Typhoons are very dangerous. In November this year, Typhoon Haiyan killed 5500 people in Philippines. More people are missing. What to do when a typhoon hits? Stay inside. Close all the windows and stay away from them. Try to bring all of your things inside. Strong winds could even blow away your bikes! Listen to the radio or TV for important information.
