She was in college only one year because she did not have enough money to complete her studies. But during that year, she learned about flying. Something that fits this description is makeup. Even though makeup might seem new, it was an important part of daily life in ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. At that time, both men and women utilized things like eyeshadow, eyeliner and lipstick nearly every day. For a more intense make-up result, a wealthier Egyptian woman would first clear her dead skin using salts from the Dead Sea. Then, she would use a milk — and — honey face mask to wet her skin. Taking milk baths was also a way to make the beauty routine a more luxurious experience. After all of this, the makeup could then be applied. But people in ancient Egypt didn’t just use makeup to look more attractive. They also used it for rituals(宗教仪式),symbolic meanings and practical purposes. For example, a black powder called kohl was used around the eyes to protect them from the bright desert sun. In fact, the Egyptian word for "makeup palette" comes from a word that means "to protect". These makeup palettes(调色板)were used to mix colored powders with animal fat or vegetable oils to make the different products. They usually had symbols of animals or goddesses on them. It was believed that the powers of these animals would be put into the makeup when it was mixed together, giving the wearer exceptional talents. Interestingly enough, makeup was also an important part of ancient Egyptian burial rituals. From life into death and beyond, makeup helped to shape ancient Egyptian culture. Even though makeup is still used in modem times, it is interesting to know that it is linked to the ancient world. 28. What does the underlined word "utilized” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Bought B. Used. C. Removed. D. Changed. 29. What would wealthy ancient Egyptian women do before putting on their makeup? A. Go swimming in the Dead Sea. B. Drink milk to wet their skin. C. Remove the dead skin with honey. D. Follow a beauty routine. 30. What did ancient Egyptians think about makeup palettes? A. They helped deliver messages from goddesses. B. They protected them from bad luck. C. They gave people special abilities. D. They brought the dead back to life. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. Makeup in ancient Egypt B. Changes in ancient Egyptian culture C. The makeup palettes in ancient Egypt D. The daily life of ancient Egyptian women D Although there are fillers(滤镀)which can change digital photographs to make them similar to a painting, obvious differences still exist. A brand-new painting Al has been made public recently. Much like the pupils of the old masters, the new Al studies the work of great painters like Vermeer and Van Gogh and learns to reproduce their works. The Al, named "paintBot", is the creation of a team of researchers from the University of Maryland, the Bytedance Al Lab and Adobe Research. PaintBot can not only reproduce the work of different artists but create new works based on photographs in the chosen painter’s characteristic style. To train the Alto imitate(模 仿)a given artist’s technique, the researchers would present it with between 3 and 10 reference paintings. With each reference painting it studies, the Al gradually learns to recognize the various characteristics of the given artist’s technique, including the stroke(笔画)color, position and size—along with the order in which each brushstroke should be made. PaintBot uses a technique known as reinforcement learning(强化学习).During the learning process, the Al would practice reproducing reference paintings, which it would then compare with the original work to see how similar the two were and if it was improving its imitation of the artist’s style. It takes around six hours for the Al to learn to imitate a given painter. Once the Al has mastered a particular artist’s technique, the researchers could present it with a new image to reproduce in the same style. The Al then uses what it has learnt to produce a new painting, putting down each brushstroke one at a time. After being trained in a given style, PaintBot takes only around five minutes to produce each of its digital masterpieces. The way that PaintBot’s compositions are built up from thousands of individual brushstrokes makes the AI’s works more realistic than those online filters. 32. What does the author say about filters used to change digital photos? A. They do amazing work. B. They are out of date. C. They have different uses. D. They are not good enough. 33. What does PaintBot need to do first before imitating a certain artist’s painting? A. Learn the artist’s techniques. B. Recognize the value of the painting. C. Compare the painting with other works. D. Understand the artist’s family background. 34. How does PaintBot create works? A. It follows the given style. B. It learns from the researchers. C. It just imitates the reference paintings. D. It mixes techniques of different artists. 35. Which of the following best describes PaintBot’s paintings according to the author? A. Popular. B. Valuable. C. Advanced. D. Lifelike. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When referring to family gardening, we are talking about a way to take care of the plants so that we can have a healthy, safe and environmentally friendly production. 36 The following simple tips will help keep the garden in perfect condition. 37 It is important to remember that we cannot stop watering the garden, always in the coolest hours of the day. Even though they don’t live at home anymore, I’m still very close to them. I call them all the time. Text 2 W: Why are you late? Did you forget you were supposed to work today? M: No. I got here on time, but I was outside cleaning snow off the steps. (2) We didn’t want anyone to fall on the way inside to shop.
