They can give you a pretty hurtful knock if they hit you. When getting on or off the tube train, make sure you mind the gap (间隙)! This varies from a few inches to a foot at some of the stations.‎ The saying that English food is boring and tasteless isn’t true, at least not anymore. You’ll find a huge variety (种类) of international restaurants and foods, especially in London. Make sure you eat some of the old-fashioned traditional foods in pubs, and wash it down with some local beer!‎ Come prepared for any sort of weather — even if the day starts off well, it’s ‎ likely that the temperature will change. The best thing to do is layer (分层穿套) your clothes so that you can add or reduce as necessary.‎ The British are, in general, very polite people and will expect at least basic politeness from travelers. Pleases and thanks go a long way! At the same time, they like playing jokes on others.‎ Don’t be surprised or angry if you’re called darling, dear, dearie, flower, love, chick, chuck, me duck, son,ma’am or any other similar pet name by someone you don’t know. It’s quite normal.‎ England is generally quite safe, but you’ll need to be more careful in London and the other large cities, especially at night. Choose an underground train that has plenty of people in it and avoid suburban underground stations at night. There are many night buses you can catch, but try not to do this alone. A licensed taxi is often the best choice. Try and leave valuable things in your hotel room, as pickpockets (扒手) do operate in some areas. Be careful of bags especially when in some busy areas.‎ ‎21. What does the author think of foods in London now?‎ A. They are old-fashioned. B. They are of huge variety.‎ C. They are simple yet delicious. D. They are boring and tasteless.‎ ‎22. What is advised to do in the text?‎ A. Have good manners in front of the British.‎ B. Be serious when talking with the British.‎ C. Avoid taking the underground in England.‎ D. Call others pet names to show your care.‎ ‎23. What can we learn from the last paragraph?‎ A. It’s dangerous to travel in England. .‎ B. Stealing is very common around England.‎ C. People shouldn’t travel by public transportation at night.‎ D. You should be careful when traveling in large cities in England.‎ B Your next car might drive itself. After years of trials on city streets, driverless vehicles are now on the way.Last month,a driverless bus began carrying passengers through Lyon,France. Most in the automobile industry think self-driving vehicles will be on the road by 2020 or earlier.‎ Driverless cars will first be huddled with human-driven cars. But the first places where they will become dominant(统治的)are highly populated urban areas. Many advanced cities are already reducing the role of human-driven cars.Driverless cars will quicken that process and will bring us enormous benefits.‎ Driverless cars will reduce accidents by around 90 percent. That's big—the annual deaths on the world's roads are about 1.2 million a year.Pollution and carbon emissions will drop, because urban driverless cars will be electric.‎ On the other hand, driverless cars will cause problems.Over the next 20 years, the mostly low-skilled men who now drive trucks, taxis and buses will see their jobs reduced.Traditional carmakers are especially scared. The cars of the future might be made by tech companies such as Apple,Baidu and Google.Imagine Germany, where automobile making is the largest industry.‎ Dramatic changes are coming, and driverless cars could arrive by 2020.But governments have barely begun thinking about it.Only 6 percent of the biggest US cities have taken them into their long-term planning.A decade ago anyone hardly saw the Smartphone coming. Now what about the driverless cars?‎ ‎24.The underlined phrase "be huddled with" in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning with " ".‎ A.turn up B.make up for C.exist together D.take over ‎25.Driverless cars can reduce pollution and carbon emissions because .‎ A.they will reduce the number of cars B.they will be powered by electricity C.they will be energy-saving by driving themselves D.they will avoid many accidents from human errors ‎26.What's the author's attitude toward driverless cars?‎ A.Doubtful. B.Disappointed. C.Negative. D.Objective.‎ ‎27.What can we conclude from the passage?‎ A.Driverless cars will not hit the road until 2020.‎ B.Old auto industry will benefit from driverless cars.‎ C.Governments are unprepared for the arrival of driverless cars.‎ D.Driverless cars will make road accidents a past thing.‎ C Many years ago I worked in a psychiatric (精神病学的) hospital. I spent a great deal of time with a gentleman who had been in this hospital for many years. He never had any visitors at all—no family or friends to visit him. He never spoke, or seemed to understand anything that was said to him, nor would he react in any way to a question asked. In this person’s history, it appeared that he had a very important career where his intelligence made him a very successful man. Unfortunately, his career was cut short and he ended up needing complete care.‎ One morning, I was attending to his needs all the while talking to him about what was happening in the local community. You see, I believe that real conversations are more important than no conversation at all and that it is more important to treat everyone with respect. I was busy dressing him after his bath, putting his clothes on, and then helping him to a chair when, totally unexpectedly, he turned to me and joined in a spirited, knowledgeable and focused discussion on a specific local event that I had been talking to him a few seconds before. This lively discussion lasted for no more than thirty seconds and then he suddenly stopped, looked straight ahead and no longer spoke. Despite my efforts to make the discussion continue, he just sat and looked straight ahead.‎ It was amazing. When he started to speak to me, I thought that I had made a breakthrough that would allow him to leave the hospital for good. Now I think maybe it was a little wonder. I suppose his speech might result from his neurons (神经元) connecting again for a short moment.‎ Maybe his speaking was just a little “thank you” for the little kindness I gave ‎ him. Maybe life is supposed to be like that—a little giving means a lot to others.‎ ‎28. What can we know about the gentleman from Paragraph 1?‎ A. His illness was connected with his career.‎ B. He could do nothing but react to a question.‎ C. His success might have a lot to do with his intelligence.‎ D. He got ill because no family or friends visited him.‎ ‎29. What kind of people is the author?‎ A. Caring and kind. B. Curious and generous.‎ C. Calm and honest. D. Courageous and brave.‎ ‎30. Why did the author speak to the gentleman that morning?‎ A. To expect a wonder to happen. B. To show respect for him.‎ C. To make a conversation with him. D. To make him know what happened.‎ ‎31. What may be the best title for this passage? ‎ A. Kindness may work wonders. B. The importance of giving.‎ C. Helping others is helping ourselves. D. A story in the hospital.‎ D I’ve personally traveled through many countries that have had U.S. government warnings for them, and I’ve been perfectly safe. Last year I travelled safely to both the Philippines and Mexico, and traveled to many South Pacific islands during the tropical cyclone(热带气旋)season and only experienced two days of light rain in six months! However, it’s still important to do your research before booking your trip.‎ One thing I suggest doing is checking for recent posts on travel forums(论坛), such as Lonely Planet’s Thorntree, to see what people are saying about the country you'll visit in terms of safety. The U.S. government may say that the whole country is extremely unsafe when in reality, it’s a small part of it that tourists will not possibly to visit. Read the travel warnings, too, to see which parts of the country the government does not advise you to visit.‎ It’s also worth speaking to your travel insurance provider before you leave to ‎ check that you’ll be covered during your travels to these countries. Some insurance companies won’t cover you if there’s a serious warning for the country, but some will. Travel insurance is a necessity, so it’s certainly something to check out before you leave.‎ Keep in mind that the U.S. government will help you with emergency evacuation(撤离)from a troubled country, but it comes in the form of a repatriation(归国)loan by the Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management (ACS), which can be called upon to rescue you from a bad situation abroad. Remember by heart that you’ll have to wait overseas for the money to arrive and finally repay the loan once you’re home safely. Just another reason to get travel insurance!‎ ‎32. What should you do before a travel according to Paragraph 1?‎ A. Make a good route plan. B. Read the travel books first.‎ C. Ask the government for help. D. Make a careful study before the trip.‎ ‎33. What does the author advise you to check for on travel forums?‎ A. Tourist places. B. Lonely islands. C. Travel safety. D. Weather forecast.‎ ‎34. Why is it necessary to know about travel insurance companies?‎ A. They seldom talk with customers.‎ B. They sometimes offer bad service..‎ C. They may provide false information.‎ D. Some of them don’t cover all the countries.‎ ‎35. What can we infer from the last paragraph?‎ A. ACS will repay the loan for you.‎ B. U.S government is very generous.‎ C. Getting travel insurance is quite necessary.‎ D. It’s easy to escape from a troubled country.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项 New Year’s Plans for First Graders ‎ The first year in high school can be very difficult. 36 .
