Food is more powerful than any weight loss pill, because the food that you eat can either make you thin or fat. This is true because your body is like an engine, and it only needs certain foods at certain intervals (间隔) each day.‎ Low-calorie Diets Do Not Work The reason people cannot lose weight by starving themselves is that their metabolism(新陈代谢) will detect any major drop in calories and it will then adjust itself by burning fewer calories each day. That is the reason why you can eat 1,000 calories per day and not lose any weight, while your friends can eat 2,500 calories per day and not gain any weight.‎ Low-fat Diets Do Not Work Many people in today’s society are buying mostly low-fat or non-fat food at the grocery store. Everybody knows how much fat is inside the food they buy. However, people are getting fatter than ever before by doing this. They are not losing weight by changing to this low-fat lifestyle.‎ Losing weight has nothing to do with these things. One of the most important things you can do to control your weight is to eat the proper foods, such as fruit and vegetables, eat them at the right time, and exercise every day. If people make this a habit, they will lose weight.‎ ‎25. What is the main reason why people are overweight?‎ A. They eat the wrong foods at the wrong time. B. They burn many calories every day. ‎ C. They eat food with lots of calories. D. They don’t take weight loss pills. ‎ ‎26. The article is written in order to________.‎ A. tell readers not to buy low-fat or non-fat food. B. tell readers about an important scientific discovery.‎ C. tell readers how to lose weight. D. call on people to lose weight and stay healthy.‎ ‎27. To realize the aim of your weight loss plan, you should_________.‎ a. do exercise every day b. eat meals at the right time ‎ c. eat fruits and vegetables d. eat low-fat or sweet food e. eat the proper foods at each meal A. a, b, d, e B. a, b, c, e C. a, c, d, e D.a, b, c, d ‎ C A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to Washington D. C.. I saw many of our nation's treasures, and I also saw a lot of unfortunate people like beggars and homeless folks in the streets.‎ Standing outside the Ronald Reagan Center, I heard a voice say, " Can you help me? " When I turned around, I saw an elderly blind woman with her hand extended (伸出). In a natural reaction, I reached into my pocket, pulled out all of my loose change and placed it in her hand. I didn't even look at her. I was annoyed at being bothered by a beggar. ‎ But the blind woman smiled and said, "I don't want your money. I just need help finding the post office. " ‎ Immediately, I realized what I had done. I acted with prejudice (偏见) -I judged another person simply for what I thought she was.‎ The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant. I left Honduras and arrived in America at the age of 15. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, cashier, mechanic and pizza delivery driver among many other jobs, and finally I became a network engineer.‎ In my own life, I have experienced many open acts of prejudice. I remember a time, at age 17-I was a busboy, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well at school, he would end up like me. ‎ But now, living in my American middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to be going. That blind woman on the street of Washington D. C. cured me of my blindness. She reminded me to always keep my eyes and heart open. ‎ 28. When the author came to America at first ______ . ‎ A. he used to beg for some money on the street. B. he usually did some work with a little payment. . ‎ C. he lived a comfortable life as a network engineer. D. he was respected by others all the time. ‎ ‎29. According to the passage, what did the author regret? ______ ‎ A. That he gave all his change to the blind woman. B. That he came to Washington D. C. for a visit. ‎ C. The way he treated the blind woman. D. That he didn't tell the woman the way to the post office. ‎ ‎30. The father mentioned in the passage wanted ______ . ‎ A. to encourage his son to make a living by himself B. his son to become a busboy in the future C. to remind his son to depend on himself at school D. his son to work harder at school ‎31.We can infer all of the following statements from the passage EXCEPT ______. ‎ A. He disliked being bothered by beggars. B. He was happy to give away his money to beggars.‎ ‎ C. He once suffered a lot. D. The blind woman didn't beg for money at that time. ‎ D As a climate scientist, I am deeply aware that facts are not enough to reach most people when it comes to global warming. For many, climate change simply feels too distant, both in time and space.‎ That is where storytelling comes in. ‎ I worked on the global warming documentary (纪录片) film series Years of Living Dangerously, the goal of which was to take viewers on a transformational journey by telling personal stories about climate change with the help of Hollywood A-listers like Harrison Ford and Arnold Schwarzenegger. My job was to make sure each plot got the science right. But I must admit it that it was the personal stories that made the issue of climate change hit close to home for many viewers.‎ The best films and novels have always dealt with the most attractive issues of the time. Uncle Tom’s Cabin and The Jungle moved people to demand action because of their unique ability to weave together the emotional, realistic and moral threads around focal topics like slavery, poverty and dangerous working conditions. When done right, true stories are explosive. They provide us with new ways of seeing the world and our place in it. ‎ The facts themselves may be unable to make global warming feel psychologically acceptable, but we still need them to make informed decisions. Climate change and its associated effects—rising seas, glacier melting, species extinction and increasingly extreme weather—can arouse strong feelings including anxiety, fear and even despair. ‎ While we need those feelings to take action, documentaries and science fictions allow us to safely fight with the concept and reflect on the consequences that come with burning fossil fuels. In that sense, works of fiction have the potential to help us not only understand our influence on the planet more fully, but also to demand a sustainable path forward.‎ ‎32.What is the author’s work aimed at?‎ A.Entertaining more people with films about climate change.‎ B.Dealing with the global warming more deeply.‎ C.Taking viewers on a journey to find global warming.‎ D.Making people aware of more about the global warming.‎ ‎33.What appeals to the viewers most in Years of Living Dangerously?‎ A.The correctness of plots. B.The film’s background of Hollywood.‎ C.The making team of the film series. D. The personal stories themselves.‎ ‎34.What does the underlined word “focal” in Paragraph 4 mean?‎ A.Hot. B.Exciting. C.Moral. D.Historical.‎ ‎35.How do works of science fictions affect human beings?‎ A.By providing new views. B.By arousing strong feelings. ‎ C.By stopping the global warming. D.By creating a visional world.‎ 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times, loving them is a normal part of life. 36 Here are some ways to love your parents.‎ Tell them you love them every morning. A gentle “good morning” and “I love you” will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. 37 ‎ Respect them more and value the moments with them. You can use these moments to learn from them, preparing yourself for when you’re off on your own. It’s OK to get angry but angry actions don’t help you or your parents. 38 After this, share your feelings with your parents.‎ Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem as if you are going through hell when you don't get what you want. 39 Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes. Forgiveness is the key. Since you can forgive your friends, why not forgive your parents?‎ ‎ 40 Do things with your parents like watching TV, or go somewhere with them. Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can.‎ A. Keep them company.‎ B.However, you should remember it is your parents who love you and protect you.‎ C.Act calmly, write down your feelings, or talk with your friends. ‎ D. Parents will in turn express their love to you.‎ E. You love them because they created you and raised you. ‎ F. Please remember parents are the dearest people for us in the world.‎ G. Without your parents, we might still wander at an unknown comer in an unknown world.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节, 满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20 小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A, B, C, D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ I recently started using a parenting expression that I never thought would come out of my mouth: “Don't make me tell Daddy.” Once upon a time I was a calmer mom. Hundreds of us took part in it.‎ It was a nice day. At 8:00 am, we gathered at the foot of the green Mountain and set out for the top in high spirits. All the way we were chatting, singing and laughing, enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful scenery. When some fell behind, others would come and offer help. About 2 hours later, we all reached the top. Bathed in sunshine, we jumped and cheered with joy.‎ The activity benefited us a lot. Not only did it get us close to nature and give us relaxation from heavy school work, it also promoted the friendship among us. What a wonderful time!‎ 听力原文 Text 1 ‎ M: You’re all grown up! How old are you now? Fifteen?‎ W: I was fifteen the last time you saw me! I’m twenty now. ‎ M: Really? It seems like just last year that you and your brother came over to visit!‎ Text 2‎ M: Do you think, within a few years, many people could work at home instead of working in offices?‎ W: Yes, of course. Science and technology have developed really fast these past few years. And in the future, I believe almost all our ideas will become reality.‎ M: I’m looking forward to it. ‎ Text 3 ‎ M: Excuse me. I asked for this salad without cheese on it, but this one is covered in it.‎ W: I’m sorry, sir. I’ll take it back and bring you out a new one. Can I get anything else for you?‎ M: Just another soda, please. Thank you.‎ Text 4‎ M: What would you like for your birthday, Sis? ‎ W: I want the iPhone 6S.‎ M: That’s a pretty expensive gift! Do you think Mom and Dad will buy it for you? ‎ W: No, but I’m hoping Aunt Janine will.‎ Text 5‎ W: Sir, you need to bring your chair back to its upright position and close your tray table. We’re touching down in fifteen minutes. ‎ M: Sorry, I didn’t hear the announcement. I had my headphones in.‎ Text 6‎ W: Did you have a nice weekend, Charlie?‎ M: Not really. I went camping with my family.‎ W: That sounds fun!‎ M: It wasn’t. Camping is so boring. I didn’t have any service on my phone, so I couldn’t check Facebook or Twitter the whole weekend!‎ W: That doesn’t sound like a big deal. Didn’t you enjoy hiking or swimming with your family?‎ M: Not really. I enjoyed taking pictures of us fishing, but I couldn’t even post them until we got back on Monday. ‎ W: Hmm... It sounds to me like you need to learn how to enjoy life without sharing every moment on social media. ‎ Text 7‎ W: You look sad, Jason. What’s wrong?‎ M: I got a ticket just now.‎ W: Why? ‎ M: I was driving slowly near the shopping mall when a policeman suddenly appeared from behind and asked me to pull over. I had to stop my car. He told me that I had stopped on the double yellow line while I was waiting for the light.‎ W: Why did you do that? You are not a new driver. ‎ M: I was thinking about my mother. She’s been ill in bed. I was worrying about her, so I didn’t notice where I had stopped. ‎ W: Then what did you say?‎ M: I said I was wrong, but the policeman wrote me a ticket anyway. They means I lost 425 dollars.‎ W: Misfortunes often come in pairs.‎ Text 8‎ W: What did you just put in the basket?‎ M: Some peanut butter.‎ W: That is not a jar of peanut butter cookies.‎ M: Okay, fine. They’re peanut butter cookies.‎ W: You know we don’t keep cookies in the hours.‎ M: Mom, please?‎ W: I will buy you yoghurt instead. It’s much healthier.‎ M: I don’t like yoghurt. What about some chocolate pudding?‎ W: You can get the low sugar kind.‎ M: That kind doesn’t taste as good. What about some carrot cake? It has carrots in it.‎ W: Cake also has a lot of sugar.‎ M: This is so unfair! I am the only kid at school who isn’t allowed to eat food that tastes good.‎ W: Okay. I will let you buy one chocolate bar, but that’s it.‎ M: Really? Are you serious? You’re the best, mom!‎ Text 9 ‎ W: Thanks for coming in today. Please have a seat. Tell me a little bit about yourself. Why do you think you’re qualified for this job?‎ M: I’ve worked as a music teacher my whole life, mainly with children, and now I’m ready for a change. Because I love music so much, I think working at a radio station would be perfect for me. ‎ W: The duties of this job include answering the phones and sending emails. How are you with both of those things?‎ M: I’m experienced in sending emails, and I’m also fairly confident on the phone. When I was a teenager, I worked at a TV station answering phone calls, so this is probably pretty similar.‎ W: We also have some early mornings here in the studio. Sometimes you’ll have to be here around 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. How do you feel about that?‎ M: I’m an early riser, so that’s easy for me. These public businesses are usually open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A smaller laundromat might have a dozen washers and a dozen dryers, while a larger one might have twice that number. My sister actually met her husband at a laundromat after he put her clothes in his basket by accident! ‎
