What causes headaches and what can we do about them?  Probably more than 90% of all headaches are caused by worry or tension. Modern living produces tension for everybody-at work, at school and at home. What can we do about tension and worry in our lives? First, find what is causing the tension. It may be caused by emotions. Do you worry too much over what people think of you, over your clothes, or about what you did or didn't say? Are you on good terms with your employer, neighbor, best friend, school friend or family? If not, why not? Next, find a way of reducing tensions. Gardening, walking, running, swimming or any activity suitable for your age will help reduce tension. Then look at your way of life. Ask yourself, where am I going? And why? Learn the secret of relaxation. Lie down in a dark quiet room and relax as much as possible by taking several slow breaths. Let all your muscles relax.  Habits of daily living also produce headaches. These include lack of exercise, especially sitting for hours watching TV or studying, lack of fresh air, lack of sleep and eating too much. Get in the habit of balanced living: plenty of sleep, regular exercise, regular meals, good food, fresh air and avoiding harmful things such as heavy smoking, alcohol and strong coffee. A headache can be the body's reaction against these things.  There are other causes of headaches. Headaches may be caused by infections or low blood sugar. If your headache gets worse, see your doctor.‎ ‎21. According to the passage, which of these is true?  ‎ A. Most people don't usually get headaches ‎ B. All people get headaches most of the time C. Most people get headaches sometimes.‎ D. No one gets headaches all his life.‎ ‎22. According to the passage, tensions can arise in the following places EXCEPT __________.‎ A. at work B. at school  ‎ C. at home D. on the playground ‎23.Tension can be reduced by __________.‎ A. Reflection B. recognition ‎ C. relaxation D. regulation ‎24. All of the following are good for health EXCEPT __________. ‎ A. plenty of sleep B. regular exercise and meals C. fresh air D. sitting for hours studying B During the Second World War, I met a housewife from Chicago who told me how she discovered for herself that “the cure for worry is to get completely occupied doing something constructive.” ‎ I met this woman and her husband in the dining car while I was traveling from New York to my farm in Missouri. This couple told me that their son had joined the armed forces the day after Pearl ‎ Harbour. The woman told me that she had almost ruined her health worrying over that only son. Where was he? Was he safe? Or in action? Would he be wounded? Killed? When I asked her how she overcame her worry, she replied: “I got busy." She told me that at first she had dismissed her maid and tried to keep busy by doing all her housework herself. But that didn’t help much.‎ ‎ “The trouble was,” she said, “that I could do my housework almost mechanically. So I kept on worrying. While making the beds and washing the dishes, I realized I needed some new kind of work that would keep me busy both mentally and physically. So I took a job as a saleswoman in a store.” “That did it,” she said. “I immediately found myself in a lot of activities: customers crowding around me, asking for prices, sizes, colors. Never a second to think of anything except my immediate duty; And when night came, I could think of nothing except getting off my aching feet. As soon as I ate dinner, I fell into bed and instantly (immediately) became unconscious. I had neither the time nor the energy to worry.” ‎ ‎25. What made the woman feel worried?‎ A. Her son’s getting lost.         B. Her son’s health condition. ‎ C. Her son’s situation in the war.         D. Her son’s joining the army. ‎ ‎26. Doing housework failed to work on the woman because __________.‎ A. it was too boring to do housework.      ‎ B. she didn’t like doing housework at all. ‎ C. there wasn’t much housework to do.       ‎ D. she needn’t use her mind to do housework. ‎ ‎27. Why did the woman take a job as a saleswoman? ‎ A. She needed a more effective way to defeat her worry. ‎ B. She enjoyed being surrounded by customers. ‎ C. She wanted to make her life more colorful. ‎ D. She had to work to support her family. ‎ ‎28. After a day’s work as a saleswoman, the woman __________. ‎ A. seemed quite disappointed          B. fell into unconsciousness ‎ C. Lost her appetite      D. felt extremely tired C Feeling lonely has a bigger influence on older people’s life expectancy(预期寿命) than smoking, top government adviser David Halpern said earlier this year.‎ This shocking fact, given that loneliness is reaching high levels in the UK – with 3.1 million over – 65s going more than a week without seeing a friend or family member – has caused quite a debate. Later retirement age is one idea for how the government might respond, but I think we can make a change without waiting for a new law.‎ My solution? Yup, you guessed it: the web. OK, I’m not mad enough to suggest that a piece of electronic equipment is a magic bullet to loneliness, but I do, hand on heart, think that encouraging more older people to get online is the simplest and cheapest tool we can equip them with so they can reawaken old, or form new friendships.‎ One of my favorite jobs as Digital Champion is judging Age UK’s Internet Champion of the Year Award. Looking through this year’s shortlist, it was obvious that each participant had been suddenly filled with a desire to socialize because of the way the net had widened their social circle. Reading the shortlist, what also struck me was how far from rocket science getting older people online is.‎ One of this year’s winners, Brenda, has a great story that’s both totally special and also very typical. Brenda felt extremely lonely after her husband’s death. Several months later, she got online. Having quickly got used to using the computer, Brenda amazingly managed to make contact with a soldier who had stayed with her family during the Second World War. Starting up their friendship again after more than half a century is the kind of miracle the Internet has made us almost take for granted – but which would have been almost unthinkable just ten years ago.‎ ‎29. Why did the author suggest the web as a solution?‎ A. It is an all-purpose tool. ‎ B. It is strongly advised by the government.‎ C. It is the only way older people make new friends. ‎ ‎ D. It can solve the problem of loneliness in an easy way.‎ ‎30. What does the underlined expression “a magic bullet” mean?‎ A. A bullet from a gun. ‎ B. A magician.‎ C. A useful solution. ‎ D. A kind of equipment.‎ ‎31. As a lonely old woman, Brenda __________.‎ A. searched hard for her old friend    ‎ B. became a new friend of a soldier C. lived alone for more than half a century ‎ ‎ D. got in touch with an old friend on the net ‎32. What is the best title for the text?‎ A. Friends Online      B. Debate on Loneliness ‎ C. Encourage Older People    D. Help an Internet Beginner D I look in the mirror, and I’m not happy with what I see. I don’t have a “perfect” face. I look in the magazines and all I see are girls with fair hair, blue eyes, and, of course, a-pretty little nose. They’re on the outside of the buses that I take home, the television programs I watch, and the billboards I walk under. Almost every advertisement I see shows this human physical “perfection”. These billboards not only tell me what to drink, but also how to look.‎ Our society place more importance on a person’s physical beauty, rather than their ability, honesty and character. We have influenced women to go through painful surgeries and starve themselves to become this society constructed physical model. To be a beautiful woman in the 21st century doesn’t mean that you are a brilliant doctor or caring mother. It means you have the perfect jaw structure, eyes and lips. It means that you can be six feet tall and weigh one hundred and ten pounds.‎ But what about the women who are starting to leave their youth? Instead of looking at aging as a sign of wisdom, we try to prevent the aging process. It's a kind of funny thing to want to look eighteen when fifty. Fifty is a relaxed age, when you can step back and look at all you’ve achieved (successfully complete something). It is when your hard work pays off. Unfortunately, our society just sees you as “old”. To stop the aging process, women buy wrinkle creams, do eye lifts and face lifts. They spend thousands of dollars to win the hopeless battle against age.‎ I remember when I was about thirteen years old and going through teens, I had oily hair, and a half developed body. I hated the way I looked. I used to cry to my mother all the time, but she would just laugh and tell me that “you don’t want anyone to like your appearance. It’s your heart that is important, because beauty fades.” I knew that she was right. If you work on your heart enough,‎ ‎ people will start to see the beauty in you, which lasts and remains on even after you die.‎ ‎33. The main idea of the first paragraph is that __________.‎ A. the author doesn't have a perfect face ‎ B. women have to look beautiful ‎ C. photos of beautiful girls can be seen everywhere ‎ D. there are too many beauties in daily life ‎34. What’s the author’s attitude towards being “old”?‎ ‎ A. It’s a pity that people have to get old.‎ ‎ B. It’s a fruitful and wise time.‎ ‎ C. It’s stupid to try to stay young.‎ ‎ D. It’s a pity that society looks down upon the old.‎ ‎35. What can we infer according to the text?‎ ‎ A. The author doesn’t like the beauties our society values.‎ ‎ B. It is not important to keep young.‎ ‎ C. It is a person’s heart and inner qualities that are important rather than the physical beauty.‎ ‎ D. The author feels appearance is important to a person.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Hollywood movies are regularly filled with sex and violence.
