All of a sudden, the chattering in the living room died and all I could hear was the sound of the turkey sizzling (发出嘶嘶声) in the oven.‎ ‎ “Look at her! She’s been on her phone all day long! It’s all your fault! Children will never respect elders if they are not taught how to behave! ” my grandmother shouted.‎ ‎ I was very shocked and angry! I opened my mouth to say something, but words failed me and I just sat down quietly on the chair like a mouse in its trap. I thought “Here we go again.” I truly love my family and I would do anything for them. I also know that should the need arise they would do anything for me as well. However, there are moments that make me feel like they are just stuck with me. They all agree on one thing: technology is wrecking me.‎ ‎ If I am going to be treated like a child or completely ignored, I will most likely not enjoy your company, and I feel like this applies to the majority of the people. So I sometimes simply shut myself in my room and listened to the voices coming from the living room, thinking: They all grew up in a world so different that it amazes me how they have actually gotten this far. They did not have phones or any type of advanced technology, which is both good and bad. Bad because they had almost no type of fast communication, and good because they were forced to interact with one another, which is something today’s society is lacking in. However, maybe if they made an effort to be aware of how things work nowadays, they would not be so against everything.‎ ‎24. What happened when the author picked up her smart phone?‎ ‎ A. The author uses the last paragraph to show that ________.‎ ‎ A. it is important to strengthen understanding among the family ‎ B. it is impossible to settle the problem of generation gap.‎ ‎ C. it is hard for the older people to accept the advanced technology D. it is in today’s society that people interact with each other more.‎ ‎ ‎ C ‎ A new “smart bin” could mean the end of environment-conscious families spending hours sorting tins, bottles, and cardboard for recycling. The invention, which automatically sorts rubbish into recycling categories, is being trialed in Poland and is set to go on sale in the UK within a few years.‎ ‎ The bin, designed by start-up company Bin. E, recognizes different types of waste via a system positioned inside the bin which uses sensors, image recognition and artificial intelligence. Once waste is placed inside, the camera and sensors identify its type and place it in one of the smaller bins. Then it compresses (压缩) the waste so it occupies less space.‎ ‎ News of the launch showed that more than a million households are being forced to accept bin collections every three or four weeks, because councils are trying to force them to recycle more. Data collected by The Telegraph has showed at least 18 areas have moved or will shortly be moving to three-weekly rubbish collections, while ‎ a further three have adopted or are trialing four-weekly collections. While reducing general bin collections, councils are increasing the frequency of recycling collections in a bid to change people’s behavior. It is thought that the bin could be stocked by department stores such as John Lewis, which said it is introducing new hi-tech recycling bins to satisfy increasing customer appetite for them. Matt Thomas, a utility (家用设施) seller at John Lewis, said, “We’ve recently seen a jump in specialist bins sales, with a 25 percent increase in the last few months alone. We have noticed our customers are becoming more and more sustainability-focused, choosing dual compartment (双格) recycling bins that make it far easier to recycle different types of waste. In response to this demand, we are really excited to introduce a new voice and sensor activated smart bin this autumn / winter season — designed to use new technology to make recycling more efficient and functional for the everyday home.”‎ ‎28.What can we know about the smart bin from the first two paragraphs?‎ A. It has entered the UK market but is still being tested in Poland. ‎ B. It can classify different kinds of rubbish.‎ C. It breaks down the garbage quickly.‎ D. It expands its space with the increase of garbage.‎ ‎29. What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean?‎ A. The cost of producing the bins has been increased.‎ B. The smart bins have been the best sellers.‎ C. The smart bins sell well with the help of specialists.‎ D. The sales quantity of the recycling bins has increased suddenly.‎ ‎30. What can we infer from Matt Thomas’ words?‎ A.People pay more attention to environmental protection than before.‎ B. Dual compartment recycling bins are activated by voice and sensors.‎ C. More and more hi-tech bins have been introduced to customers.‎ D.The price of the new voice and sensor activated smart bin will increased by 25%.‎ ‎31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?‎ A. It Is Our Duty to Sort Waste ‎ B. Councils’ Call for Rubbish Collection C. A Smart Bin That Sorts Different Rubbish D. A Recycling Campaign in the UK D For the last few months, I have given up what was previously one of my favorite foods: beef. Eating less red meat to be healthier and better for the environment is— surprisingly to me — really easy to do. Sometimes it seems like much of our food is stuck in a cycle of excessive (过度的) production and excessive consumption.‎ Meat consumption today contributes to global warming and the worsening environment . It’s estimated that 14.5% of global man-made greenhouse gas emission come from livestock(家畜) which is more than the contribution from all forms of transport. Beef production makes up 41% of those emissions. Last year, Brazil reported a 28% increase in Amazonian deforestation — 80% of deforested land in Brazil is then used for cattle farming. Modern beef farming is also a huge drain(流干) on water resources.‎ But it is possible to change. Reducing meat consumption is a growing trend, driven by health and environmental considerations. A switch to a “healthy diet” as recommended by Harvard Medical School — which still includes eating meat, fish and eggs — would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from food production by 36%. The Norwegian military announced it is switching a one-day to a one-week vegetarian diet in a move against global warming, while even in the US consumption of red-meat is falling.‎ As far as I’m concerned, I feel healthier, more active and by making my diet more varied I never feel like I am missing out on anything. Stopping eating beef has also had a knock-on effect on the rest of my diet, and I am eating less. Cattle and other livestock don’t have to be environmentally harmful. Grass-fed cattle need much smaller resource input. And as it has been shown, livestock, if managed properly, can even restore degraded land.‎ In the longer term, as Bill Gates highlighted, there is also great potential for ‎ advance in fields like synthetic(合成) meat. And there are other more sources of efficient protein; like insects! But in a world where more people are now dying from obesity than malnutrition(营养不良) —when hundreds of millions of people still don’t have enough to eat, we can’t solve this problem by simply continuing to make “conventional” intensive farming more intensive.‎ ‎32. Why has the author given up eating beef ?‎ A. He likes vegetarian diet very much.‎ B. Previous excessive consumption of beef has led to his obesity.‎ C. It benefits both health and environment.‎ D. It is easy for him to change his eating habits ‎33. What result does cattle farming cause?‎ A. The loss of deforestation. B. The great loss of water resources.‎ C. The lack of man-made greenhouse. D. The starvation of livestock.‎ ‎34. What’s the author’s attitude towards raising some livestock in a green way?‎ A. Disapproving. B. Doubtful. C. Favorable. D.Unconcerned ‎35. In Bill Gates’ view, we can get efficient protein by _________.‎ A. raising more insects B. raising more cattle C. developing intensive farming D. developing man-made meat 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据对话情景和内容,从对话后的选项中选出能入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ We are surrounded by messages trying to get our attention.
