In a model of the system, the controllers connect safely to the Internet. The owner can then monitor them with a cell phone or computer. Users’ response helps the system adapt to routines, saving electricity.‎ While thinking about responding to user behavior and an increasingly elderly population, the researchers decided to add wristband technology that senses vitals such as body temperature and pulse, Siau said.‎ ‎“In the event that someone were to fall, it would detect the fall and it would immediately start the monitor of the pulse to see if the person has gone into shock,” he said. “It’s an early warning system that can inform any parties registered to monitor the person.”‎ The wristband communicates with the home system wirelessly. Data from the band can be safely piped to the home network and accessed by authorized users.‎ A functioning model of the wristband technology exists, but it’s still too big. The team is working hard to reduce its size to a level where it could potentially be a wrist – sized product and is trying adding other services, including a system that could send a warning message if someone with Alzheimer’s (老年痴呆) were to get lost.‎ Siau said that the university received government supporting money, enabling the researchers to work with the independent research firm on testing the platform in real houses.‎ ‎21.The new system is smarter in the fact that .‎ A. it can help do some cooking work ‎ B. it can take people’s body temperature C. it can sense emergencies and give signals ‎ D. it can prevent elderly people from falling ‎22.The system was originally designed for the owner to .‎ ‎ A.save energy B.save strength C.collect energy D.produce energy 第 12 页 (共 12 页)‎ ‎23.Which of the following would be the best title of the passage A. Smart House Saves Money ‎ B. Smart House Feels Your Pain C. Smart House Enters Every Family D. Smart House Makes You Comfortable B I always think about a question—what separates me from everyone else? In my opinion, the difference is not what clothes I wear or the music I listen to, but what I feel inside. ‎ Ever since I was young, I have loved professional wrestling. I woke up every Saturday to watch my favorite Superstars. As I grew older, I got a lot of flak(抨击) for watching this “fake” sport. My peers would laugh at me for following what was called a “man’s soap opera”. So, I put my love for wrestling on the shelf. Like everyone else, I wanted to be associated with the cool clique(小圈子). I was eager to be invited to the parties of the in-crowd and hang out with the popular kids. I became pretty successful. Although my Friday evenings were busy with parties, I would still wake up early on Saturdays to watch wrestling. It wasn’t until freshman year that I realized I wasn’t being myself.‎ That year, I tried many new things and activities and made new friends. In my town, football was the sport, so I decided to play football, thinking it might give me a head start in popularity. The team started with 48 athletes. At the end, there were 14 of us left. I stuck it out not because I liked it, but because I was not a quitter. That long season taught me a lesson: I wasn’t a football player. More importantly, it taught me to be myself. ‎ After that season, I went back to being a wrestling fan. I watched it religiously, no matter what insults were thrown my way. I came across a quote: “Don’t Dream It, Be It.”‎ As my senior year winds down, I’ll remember all of my high school memories. But what will stick out most is the memory that I did something I loved, despite what everyone said or thought. I accomplished my goal. I lived my dream. ‎ ‎24. To explain why he loves wrestling. ‎ B. To call upon readers to learn from him.‎ C. To tell readers to stick to their inner thoughts. ‎ D. To encourage readers to make wise choices when in trouble. ‎ C As the cost of a university education continues to balloon, many wonder whether the return on 第 12 页 (共 12 页)‎ ‎ the investment is worth it and if there might be alternative paths to job success. ‎ Enter micro-credentials(微证书). ‎ Simon Nelson, CEO of FutureLearn, a UK- based learning platform that partners with universities to provide massive open online courses(MOOCs), believes that micro-credentials arose out of three global “macro trends”. One is the rapidly growing demand for high-quality higher education in developing societies, while the second is the digital transformation that has taken place in many industries. This change is “broadening the traditional skills gap”, says Nelson, and universities aren’t providing the training for the “range of new skills that are in high demand”. The third aspect is the digitization of the higher education sector, he adds. It’s no longer enough to obtain a degree; having a job now requires people to upskill continuously, yet “people can’t take the time out of their lives to attend physical establishments”. ‎ Many individuals already use micro-credentials to broaden their skillsets. Still, some have suggested that in the future, a potential employee might be able to combine these credentials together in place of a university degree. The idea is that it would be more accessible and provide a more affordable — perhaps more targeted — path into employment. ‎ But according to research conducted in 2018 by Sean Gallagher, the founder and executive director of Northeastern University’s Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy, that doesn’t mean university degrees don’t have significant value. When he surveyed 750 human resource leaders in US companies across various industries, Gallagher found that many of the applicants were degree-holders who had obtained micro-credentials to add their main qualification, rather than accumulating certificates as an alternative. ‎ For employers to buy into micro-credentials as an alternative, there needs to be data that proves employees with micro-credentials can perform better, or at least just as well as those with university degrees. “That type of data doesn’t exist quite yet,” says Gallagher. ‎ ‎27. What does the underlined word “balloon” in Paragraph 1 mean? ‎ A. Change. B. Increase. ‎ C. Fly. D. Shrink. ‎ ‎28. Why did micro credentials come into being? ‎ A. To decrease working hours. ‎ B. To update occupational skills. ‎ C. To replace main qualification. ‎ D. To improve higher education. ‎ ‎29. What might be the advantage of micro-credentials? ‎ A. Reasonable cost. B. Ambitious target. ‎ C. Wide recognition. D. Instant accessibility. ‎ ‎30. What is Sean Gallagher’s attitude to the future of micro credentials? ‎ A. Positive. B. Ambiguous. ‎ C. Cautious. D. Uninterested. ‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 ‎ One of the great benefits of being able to record sound is to make books available for listening. With the appearance of audio recordings, many people were able to hear literary classics read aloud. As sound technology has changed, audio books have changed, as well. 31 Now, books are also available on audio tape or CD.‎ 第 12 页 (共 12 页)‎ Talking books are books created for people who have sight problems. Some of these talking books often need special players to be used. Many visually damaged people are able to receive players for free. 32 ‎ CD technology has caused great changes in the talking book industry, since more data can be written on a single disc. 33 So the visually damaged person has a multi-use machine.‎ ‎ 34 Some are even read in the form of a play, in which different actors take the parts of the characters in the book. They may also have sound effects or music to help improve the listening experience.‎ Some book clubs have started offering audio books as part of their services. Libraries also have audio books available and they may also be purchased online or at any book store. 35 Those who feel they do not have time to enjoy the pleasure of a good book may find audio books to be the next best thing.‎ A. They are no longer available only on volumes.‎ B. Many talking book players will also play music CDs.‎ C. Audio books are popular with travelers and busy individuals.‎ D. Many audio books also feature famous actors reading the books.‎ E. People can listen to a personal music player whenever they want.‎ F. It is an affordable option if you typically listen to more than one book a month.‎ G. These players enable them to play their talking books independently, without the help of a sighted person.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was bitter and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus. I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told me the truth. Grandma was home, and I told her everything. She was ready for me. “No Santa Claus !” She shouted. “Ridiculous! Don’t believe it.” That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad. Now, put on your coat, and let’s go.”‎ ‎“Go where, Grandma?” I asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. “Take this money, ” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.‎ I was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs Pollock’s grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn’t have a coat. I knew that because he never went out for recess (放假) during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough, and he didn’t have a coat. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.‎ 第 12 页 (共 12 页)‎ ‎“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. “Yes.”‎ The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.‎ 注意:‎ 1. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in beautiful paper.‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph2:‎ Grandma and I waited breathlessly for Bobby Decker’s front door to open and finally it….‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ 恩施高中2018级高二下第五次双周考英语试题答案 第一部分 听力 ‎1-5 ABBCA 6-10 CACCC 11-15 ACABB 16-20 CCAAA 第二部分 阅读理解 ‎21-23 CAB 24-26 BAC 27-30 BBAC 31-35 AGBDC 第三部分 英语知识运用 完形填空 ‎36-40 CDBDA 41-45 CBDCA 46-50DCBBA 51-55 BAABC 语法填空 ‎56. an 57. Undoubtedly, it has ever been one of the most disastrous diseases in history. But don’t panic. Here are some effective measures to prevent you from being infected. ‎ Firstly, stay at home to avoid unnecessary contact. Being away from the crowd may be not the best but a more useful way to protect you well. Besides, wearing a surgical or N95 mask is another better way to avoid the virus entering your body through our mouths or noses. At last, do remember to wash your hands frequently and properly, especially when you come back from outdoors. ‎ Hopefully, epidemic will be under control soon. Anyway, best wishes to you and stay well. ‎ Yours truly, ‎ Li Hua 第二节读后续写 ‎ One possible version:‎ That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in beautiful paper. She wrote “To Bobby, From Santa Claus” on it, after which she drove me over to Bobby Decker’s house, explaining I was officially one of Santa’s helpers. Grandma parked down the street form Bobby’s house, and I took a deep breath, and dashed for his front door. Seeing no other people notice us, I put the Christmas present down, pounded his doorbell and then Grandma and I hid in the car.‎ Paragraph2:‎ Grandma and I waited breathlessly for Bobby Decker’s front door to open and finally it opened. Out went Bobby Decker. Seeing the coat in the bag, he looked very astonished and then called his mother to go out. After hearing them say “Thanks” to Santa Claus, I felt very proud of what I had done. At that time I decided to be Santa’s helper forever. It was on that night that I realized the truth that he who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas under a tree.‎ 听力材料 Text 1‎ M: How much is this pair of sports shoes? ‎ W: This pair costs 50 dollars. ‎ M: I’ve only got 45 dollars on me. I’ll come again this afternoon if I have. ‎ Text 2‎ M: Beijing and Zhangjiakou will host the Winter Olympics in 2022. Will you go to the games with me then? ‎ W: Sorry, I don’t really want to go. I’m too far from there, and I don’t think we can both be selected to buy tickets at the same time. ‎ M: All right. Maybe you prefer watching TV at home. ‎ Text 3‎ M: I took my last exam for this semester this morning. ‎ W: Now that your final exams have finished, what are you going to do? ‎ M: I plan to take it easy for a few days. ‎ Text 4‎ W: Good morning, Mr. White. ‎ 第 12 页 (共 12 页)‎ M: Good morning. Are you going to the football game? ‎ W: So, you are going to give us a ride to the game tonight? ‎ M: If my car’s running all right. ‎ Text 5‎ W: Hey, Bob. Would you please help me with these boxes? ‎ M: Yes, if you promise to help me tidy up the house. ‎ W: No problem. I’ll even do the dishes. ‎ Text 6‎ M: I’ll have to make a choice soon about next year. I’ve got a chance to go on a six-month journey to South America, but I’ve just been offered a job in a bookshop here. ‎ W: Wow, South America? How could you say no? ‎ M: Well, believe it or not, I don’t have a burning desire to see the world. I’d much prefer just to stay at home. Anyway, it’s hard to decide. ‎ W: Well, I would strongly advise you to think of the future. Working abroad is much more exciting than working in a small town. You’re lucky to have a choice. A lot of people don’t. ‎ Text 7‎ M: Do you know Kevin Durant? He was infected with COVID-19 last week! ‎ W: Yes, he is now a player for the Brooklyn Nets. I feel sorry for him. ‎ M: Why have so many athletes been exposed to COVID-19 recently? Shouldn’t their immunity be stronger than ours? ‎ W: Studies have shown that prolonged acute exercise(长时间的剧烈运动)can weaken the body’s immunity. In addition, athletes have to travel to many places to participate in the competition, so their human immunity will be weakened. The daily training and competition field are also relatively complex and crowded, and the probability of being infected with the COVID-19 will increase. ‎ M: You really know a lot. Now I just hope Durant will get better soon. ‎ W: You don’t have to worry too much. Athletes are more likely to heal themselves than the general population. ‎ M: OK. Being friends with someone as rational as you isn’t all bad. ‎ Text 8‎ W: Hi, George, what have you been doing lately? I haven’t seen you around much. Where have you been? ‎ M: Oh, I was playing the piano for a group of Germans. I just got back. ‎ W: It must be exciting playing the piano and traveling all the time. ‎ M: Well, playing the piano is great, but the traveling is not fun. Living out with the suitcase all the time. I have just been to my manager and he has offered me a job: playing the piano on the coast for the summer. ‎ W: At a sea sight town? ‎ M: Yes, but I don’t think I am going to take it. ‎ W: Why not? Not enough money? ‎ M: No, it’s not bad. The money is good, about two hundred dollars a week. It’s just that we will be working in the hotel playing for the tourists. And they just want a same old music over and over to dance too. And I get so bored. It’s not like playing the music. It’s like being a machine. ‎ W: I wouldn’t mind being a machine for that money. ‎ Text 9‎ M: It must be really fun getting to travel to so many interesting places. On your show, you describe yourself as an explorer. What do you mean by that? That seems like a strange name given to oneself. ‎ W: An explorer is simply someone who explores. I call myself an explorer because I challenge myself to go to new places and try new things. That’s what my show about different tribes is all about. I go to a new part of the world and really allow myself to become part of the tribe. ‎ 第 12 页 (共 12 页)‎ M: What’s the craziest thing that you’ve had to do? ‎ W: One time in Africa. I had to eat a root that makes you dream while you are awake. Basically, it just makes you a little bit crazy for a few hours.
