White had two reasons for making this epic journey. First of all, he wanted to use the trip to raise money for charity, which he did. He raised £70,000 for the British charity, Oxfam. White's second reason for making the trip was to break the world record and become the fastest person to cycle around the world. He is still waiting to find out if he has broken the record or not.‎ White set off from Trafalgar Square, in London, on 19th June 2004 and was back 299 days later. He spent more than l,300 hours in the saddle(车座) and destroyed four sets of tyres and three bike chains. He had the adventure of his life crossing Europe, the Middle East, India, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas. Amazingly, he did all of this with absolutely no support team. No jeep carrying food, water and medicine. No doctor. Nothing! Just a bike and a very, very long road.‎ ‎ The journey was lonely and desperate at times. He also had to fight his way across deserts, through jungles and over mountains. He cycled through heavy rains and temperatures of up to 45 degrees, all to help people in need. There were other dangers along the road. In Iran, he was chased by armed robbers and was lucky to escape with his life and the little money he had. The worst thing that happened to him was having to cycle into a headwind on a road that crosses the south of Australia. For l,000‎ ‎ kilometers he battled against the wind that was constantly pushing him. This part of the trip was slow, hard work and depressing, but he made it in the end. Now Mr. White is back and intends to write a book about his adventures.‎ ‎25.When Phil White returned from his trip, he________.‎ A. collected money for Oxfam B.broke the world record ‎ C. destroyed several bikes D. travelled about 1 300 hours ‎ ‎26.What does the word "epic" in Paragraph l most probably mean?‎ A. Very long and difficult. ‎ ‎27.During his journey around the world, Phil White _______.‎ A. fought heroically against robbers in Iran ‎ B. managed to ride against the wind in Australia C. experienced the extremes of heat and cold ‎ D. had a team of people who travelled with him ‎ ‎28.Which of the following words can best describe Phil White?‎ A. Determined. B. Independent. C. Modest. D. Imaginative. ‎ ‎    ‎ C ‎ Do you often lose things? Don’t worry. Now a new tool, which can be connected to any object you might lose, may be the way to solve your problem. The Tile, a small square linked up to your iphone or ipad by means of Bluetooth, lets you see how close you are to your missing item, within a 50-to-150-foot range (范围). If the item goes out of your phone’s 150-foot range, it can still be found on other smart phones with the same app.‎ When you drive the app on your phone, it shows you, with green bars that increase or decrease, how close or far away you are from the Tile. You can also program it to make a sound when you get close to the Tile. And you can link up your phone with up to ten Tiles. And if your lost object — a dog, for example, or a stolen bike — go out of your own phone’s 150-foot Bluetooth range, you can set it as a “lost item”. If any of the phones with the Tile app comes within range of your lost item, a message ‎ will be sent to your phone, telling you its position. The Tile app also has the function to remember where it last saw your Tile, so that you can easily find where you left it.‎ Since the Tiles use Bluetooth rather than GPS, they are never out of battery or needn’t to be charged, and they work for one year before needing to be replaced. And the app works with all generations of iPhones and iPads.‎ For further information, please visit www. tile666.com.‎ ‎29.What can the Tile app help you?‎ A. To find other phone users. B. To use your phone more wisely.‎ C. To save your phone’s power. D. To find your missing items.‎ ‎30.What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?‎ A. How the Tile app works. B.What the Tile app is. ‎ C. Why the Tile app was created. D. What the advantages of the Tile app are.‎ ‎31.Where does the passage probably come from?‎ A. A news report. B. Science fiction.‎ C. A personal diary. D. An advertisement. ‎ D ‎ How many times have you been to the doctor’s office and listen to an educated professional explain something to you that is just meaningless. These people keep asking you , “Do you understand ?”and sometimes out of embarrassment because you don’t want to look like stupid, you tell them, “Yes, I do understand. ”This isn’t a good way to communicate either.‎ How do we communicate in a positive way to get our points across(使…被理解)? Ask the person you are communicating with if they understand what you just said, if someone is talking to you, then use the statement ,“Just to make Sure That I Understand What You Just Said”and then repeat back your understanding of their conversation. Sometimes just asking a few simple questions and clarifying your understanding can bring great benefits to any communication.‎ In some countries like Japan for instance , you might find them reading your body language more than the words you are communicating with. Sometimes just by the way someone stands or reacts to something you said, you can get a valuable insight to ‎ what the other person means in this conversation. Don’t forget however this could lead to a misunderstanding also. Again if you think someone is communicating with their body language , try not to assume (假设)that you know for a fact what message they are trying to get across. Always ask them if they understand what you are talking about.‎ A person is responsible for what he says and to make sure that the other person completely understands the point he is trying to get across. Why not start using some of the simple skills used in this article to help with your communication skill, you will start to see the benefits within a short period of time.‎ ‎32. According to the author , you can’t catch a doctor because_______‎ A. he can’t make himself understood.‎ B. you are a complete idiot.‎ C. he keeps asking you questions. ‎ D. you don’t pay enough attention to him.‎ ‎33. As a listener , you should ______to ensure(保证) a good communication.‎ ‎ A. listen carefully and quietly. ‎ B. take some notes while listening ‎ ‎ C. retell the conversation in your own words. ‎ D. ask the speaker to speak slowly and clearly ‎34. What’s the main idea of the passage?‎ A. How to Express Yourself Positively ‎ B .Communication and Body Language ‎ C. Simple Good Communication Skills D. Communication and Misunderstanding ‎35. From the passage we can learn that ______‎ ‎ A .communication skills in the passage need a long time to practice ‎ ‎ B. you’d better not ask any questions in communicating with others ‎ C. one cannot completely understand a conversation only by body language ‎ ‎ D. communication has nothing to do with the ability of reading and writing ‎ 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项 How to Keep a Relationship Healthy and Strong Are you new to experiencing relationships Well, let me give you advice on having ‎ a healthy and possibly long-term relationship. 36 Do not hide things from them.
