Exercise is good for us. It reduces the risks of dying from all causes, including cancer and heart disease, according to the World Health Organization. But many people who work all week have little time for exercise. So, they might try to do something to increase their heart rates over the weekend - go for a long run, take a bike ride, hike in the mountains or do a chore around the house, such as gathering leaves, shoveling snow or digging a garden. We sometimes call people who exercise only on Saturdays and Sundays“weekend warriors.” But is it healthy to avoid exercise during the work-week and then try to fit it all in during the weekend? A new study suggests that, yes, it is healthy: Even weekend warriors may reduce their risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Australian researchers at the University of Sydney conducted the study. It took place over a nine-year period. During that time, the researchers looked at the self-reported exercise habits and health examinations of more than 63,000 adults i n England and Scotland. Then they connected that information to mortality - or, death - records. The researchers found that people who exercised only one or two days a week improved their chances of living longer than people who did not exercise at all. Even those who are very overweight could extend their lives by exercising a couple of days per week. When compared to those who did not exercise at all, weekend warriors had an 18 percent lower risk of dying from cancer. As for cardiovascular disease, weekend warriors had a 40 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease than inactive people, or so-called "couch potatoes." Couch potatoes are people who don’t exercise. The WHO suggests that the average adult get at least 150 minutes of exercise per week. At a clothes swap event the women can give away unwanted clothing and get something different in return. Recently about 300 women went to a clothes swap at a high school in Springfield, Virginia. It was the largest crowd ever for the area’s popular clothing-swapping group. Daphne Steinberg was having a good day. “For anyone who knows Ann Taylor LOFT, Ann Taylor is a really good women’s designer and I will totally wear this to work. So I love that, and I love that I can equip myself for work, have a good time in doing it, and not totally bankrupt(使破产)myself.” Sandy Van Dusen likes the idea that clothes are finding new homes instead of being thrown away. “Because it helps to keep the Earth green. There’s no point in my opinion in continuing to buy new clothes when we can reuse what are already here. Give them a new home-- let someday else love what you used to love and no longer love.” Kim Pratt organized the clothes swap event in Springfield. She also organized a money- raising activity for the high school’s debate team. It is one of several ways that her group gives to charitable causes. Another is by donating all of the “unswapped” clothing to shelters for victims of domestic violence. “I started doing this four years ago, and we’ve been doing it for four years, getting bigger and bigger each time we have a swap.” She used the social media website meetup. com to help publicize the events. The website has helped her group grow from 30 members to 1,300. Ms. Pratt says most of the members respect the clothing swap rules. But she says competition for desirable fashion can be strong. “We have to tell people sometimes not to hover(徘徊)over the new people coming in with their clothing. As they put it out, some people tend to grab the stuff right out of their hands and it becomes like a free-for-all. We try to avoid that as much as possible.” 22. Women can _______ at a clothes swap. A. exchange unwanted clothing for something different B. buy whatever clothing they like C. have a social gathering and make friends D. make some money by giving away unwanted clothing 22. We can learn from what Daphne Steinberg said that _______. A. she had been to a clothed swap for the first time B. She experienced the largest clothes swap ever in the area C. Don’t let any of these people stop you from doing these things. These people don’t matter. 27 You will ask yourself one question: “Am I proud of how I lived?” Make the answer: “Yes!” 28___ Even when it seems like a hopeless effort, do the right thing. Always live firmly by the forces of love and truth. 29 It’s these small acts of goodness stacked together that eventually change the world. You may never see the full result of your positive actions, but they will be accounted for and realized in time. If you do nothing, there will be no result – no positive change ever. What are you trying to accomplish and why? Know the answer to this simple question and remind yourself of it every single day. You must identify, without any doubt, the specific reason you do the work you do. Success can only occur when there is a target and a reason to hit it.
