On TV B ‎ Like many children, young Lotte Reiniger was crazy about movies, which at the time were a completely new invention. She taught herself how to cut paper silhouettes(剪影), of people, animals, and objects. I could cut silhouettes almost as soon as I could manage to hold a pair of scissors,” Reiniger said. “I could paint, too, and read...But everybody was surprised at the scissor cuts”‎ At first, Reiniger wanted to be an actress, but her skill at making silhouettes drew the attention of the German film industry. Before 1927, films were silent. To help the audience understand the film, title cards with printed text appeared during the film between scenes. Reiniger helped create title cards for films, using her silhouettes. In 1918, she was asked to provide stop-motion animation(定格动面), in which objects are photographed(拍摄)in a series of slightly different positions and then replayed at high speed so that the objects appear to move on their own, for wooden rats(老鼠)in the movie The Pied Piper of Hamelin. It was a breakthrough that led to her own films, first short films and then, in 1926, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the first full-length animated film.‎ Although Reiniger once described herself as “a primitive(原始的)caveman artist”, her work is not simple. She carefully cut bits of card, paper, and wire, creating wonderful shapes, and then made them move and dance by hand. The black shapes were then placed on colorful backgrounds. She made more than 60 films, around 40 of which survive, all cut by her own hands. Most were based on timeless fairy tales, like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.‎ Reiniger was truly a pioneer both in animation and for women in film-making. Though her last film came out in 1980, her style is still influential and can often be seen in today’s films.‎ ‎24. What do we know about Reiniger’s cuts?‎ A. People silhouettes were her favorite.‎ B. She had a gift for cutting silhouettes.‎ C. Painting and reading helped her cuts.‎ D. Movies excited her interest in silhouettes.‎ ‎25. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to?‎ A. Creating title cards for films.‎ B. Making wooden rats for a film.‎ C. Producing The Adventures of Prince Achmed.‎ D. Bringing stop-motion animation into a film.‎ ‎26. Which of the following words can best describe Reiniger?‎ A. Gifted and generous. B. Creative and productive.‎ C. Honest and self-confident. D. Traditional and hard-working.‎ C Researchers at the University of Kansas say that it’s easy for people to judge 90 percent of a stranger's personality simply by looking at the person's shoes. “Shoes contain useful information about their wearers.” the authors wrote in the new study published in the Journal of Research in Personality.‎ Lead researcher Omri Gillath said the judgments were based on the style, cost, color and condition of someone's shoes. In the study, 63 University of Kansas researchers looked at pictures showing 208 different pairs of shoes worn by the study's participants. Volunteers in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes, and then filled out a personality questionnaire.‎ Some of the results were expected: People with higher incomes most commonly wore expensive shoes, and flashier shoes were typically worn by outgoing people. However, some other results are strange enough. For example, “practical and functional” shoes were generally worn by more “pleasant” people, while ankle boots were more connected with “aggressive” personalities. The strangest of all may be that those who wore “uncomfortable looking” shoes tend to have “calm” personalities. And if you have several pairs of new shoes or take very good care of them, you may suffer from “attachment anxiety”, which means you are likely to spend lots of time worrying about what other people think of your appearance. There was even a political calculation in the mix with more liberal (主张变革的) types wearing “shabbier and ‎ less expensive” shoes.‎ The researchers noted that some people will choose shoe styles to mask their actual personalities, but researchers noted that volunteers didn’t fully realize that their footwear choices were showing the deep side of their personalities.‎ ‎27. What does this text mainly tell us?‎ A. Shoes can hide people's real personalities. ‎ B. Shoes contain false information about the wearer.‎ C. People's personalities can be judged by their shoes.‎ D. People know little about others’ personalities.‎ ‎28. Which of the results is beyond people's expectation?‎ A. Wealthy people often wear expensive shoes.‎ B. Pleasant people are likely to wear ankle boots.‎ C. Flashier shoes are typically worn by outgoing people.‎ D. Calm people like wearing uncomfortable shoes.‎ ‎29. People suffering from “attachment anxiety” tend to ___________.‎ A. wear strange shoes ‎ B. worry about their appearance C. have a calm character ‎ D. become a political leader ‎30. The author wrote the text in order to ___________.‎ A. inform us of a new study ‎ B. introduce a research method C. teach how to choose shoes ‎ D. describe different personalities 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分) ‎ Arbor Day In the U.S., people are celebrating Arbor Day(植树节) today, the last Friday in April. I keep wondering how you feel about your life in Beijing. Have you got used to the life in China? Are you enjoying your school life? I hope you are.‎ Let me tell you a piece of good news: I’m going to join in an English speech contest of middle school students in July in the coming summer vacation. So I’m busy preparing for it. But now I have some difficulty in collecting useful information and using proper English words to express my thoughts, so I’m writing to ask you for advice.‎ In addition, I’m going to visit you after the contest. I’m sure we will have a wonderful time together in Beijing! I can hardly wait to see you! I am looking forward to your early reply.‎ Yours,‎ ‎ Li Hua 录音原文 Text 1 ‎ W: I love listening to classical music after work. I find it so relaxing. But when I’m cleaning the house, I prefer rock music.‎ M: Jazz is my favorite, especially when I’m driving. ‎ Text 2 ‎ W: Have you read the book for the homework yet? It’s really interesting!‎ M: I’m having a hard time reading it, because it’s all in French. I’m using my dictionary, but my reading skills aren’t great.‎ Text 3 ‎ W: I’ll order a burger and some dessert. What about you?‎ M: I’ll go for a pizza. I’ve been thinking about it all day long.‎ Text 4 ‎ W: Your backpack is heavy! What’re you carrying?‎ M: I have a book and a notebook in there for each of my five classes. And I always carry my personal computer with me. I also have two calculators and about ten pens.‎ Text 5 ‎ M: Are you excited about today? It’s an important day! Your mother and I are so proud of you for graduating.‎ W: Thanks, Dad! But I’m worried that I’ll mess up my speech at the event. Everyone ‎ will be watching me!‎ Text 6 ‎ W: Excuse me, sir. Can you help me? I need to buy a bed for my new apartment.‎ M: Of course. What size bed do you need?‎ W: It’s a small apartment, so I don’t want anything too big. ‎ M: Well, you should get a twin bed. That’s the smallest size for an adult. It only fits one person. The bigger size bed is a double bed for two people. Then there are queen-sized and king-sized beds. Those are very large. They’re much too big for you!‎ W: Okay, thanks so much! I’ll get the smallest one. ‎ Text 7 ‎ W: Where should we set up our picnic? By the lake? It looks so blue and clear, just like the sky! ‎ M: I know! But it’s hot today. Let’s have the picnic under the trees over there instead of by the lake. The trees will keep the sun off us, so it won’t be as hot. ‎ W: Good idea! It’s a sunny day for a picnic in the park. But I wouldn’t want to be running around too much.‎ M: You’re right! I take my dog for a walk on the walking paths here to get some exercise, but only when it’s cooler outside. ‎ Text 8 ‎ W: I’m really looking forward to going camping this summer, Jason. When I get into the forest, I feel like I can finally relax. It’s better than any beach.‎ M: Me, too, Sarah. I can’t wait to sit by a fire and sleep in the forest under the stars. The one thing I find stressful, however, is the packing. ‎ W: Why is that?‎ M: We have to bring sleeping bags, clothes, food, water, games, and so much more! But we don’t have enough room in our car for extra stuff. It’s really frustrating.‎ W: That’s why I want a car with far more enough space like Marie and Tony’s! They ‎ store all their camping things inside. ‎ M: Yeah. Sounds like we have to save up money for a new car!‎ Text 9 ‎ M: OK, Mrs. Thomas, I finished cleaning up the leaves in the yard. ‎ W: Oh, thank you, James. ‎ M: I also swept the front steps and took out the garbage. Is there anything else I can help you with?‎ W: Can you also take my dog Oscar for a walk? ‎ M: Sure!‎ W: You’re such a prince! Ever since I broke my leg, it has been so difficult to take care of things around the house. My daughter Leah helps out on Mondays and Tuesdays, and my son Robby on Thursdays. But I’m so happy you can come on Saturdays.‎ M: Well, I appreciate the weekend work. I’m saving up to buy a bike so I can ride to my basketball practice. ‎ W: Will you still be able to work for me after you get your bike?‎ M: Of course! But don’t forget, I’m away next weekend visiting my grandfather. My sister Alison will come by instead.‎ W: OK.‎ Text 10 ‎ Thanks for watching News Channel 11. The first news today is about the new hospital on Second Street. Workers have been building it for six months, and it finally opens tomorrow! Now you won’t have to go to the next town when you’re sick or have an emergency. It’s a large, beautiful building with all new beds and medical equipment. It’s also hiring doctors and nurses. In other news, the big bank on Main Street is closed for two weeks. A tree fell on it during the storm last weekend, and it’s being fixed. The smaller bank on Forest Road is open, however. So you can go to the Forest Road if you need a visit to the bank. The last news is about the new city program to clean up our neighborhoods. We’re asking everyone to spend Saturday afternoon cleaning your yard and the street near your house. Some people ‎ are also helping clean the city park. Let’s take care of our city together. Thanks for listening, and have a good night!‎
