Unluckily, there are still many people who think it is hard to go green. In fact, it is very easy to be green in our daily life. You can make a great start by learning to recycle (回收利用). While this looks really simple, there are many people who still throw glass bottles into their common garbage. Almost all cities offer a recycling bin (垃圾箱) for these items. If you put them in the recycling bin instead of throwing them away, you will be on the path to save the earth. One good thing to recycle is newspaper. But there are still some people who just put their newspaper in the garbage when they finish reading it. As we know, there are many other things we can do with an old newspaper. For example, we can use it to clean our windows. Another thing that could help you to start to live green is to begin walking a bit more. Many people think nothing of getting in their car and driving one mile to get drinks at the local store. If you walk to the store, not only can it take less time, because you won’t have to try to find a parking place, but you will be saving money on gas and helping to protect the environment. If you wish to save even more on gas, take the ‎ opportunity to car pool (拼车) each time you can, which has become popular in many countries. There really are many means by which people can start living green. They only have to make some changes in their lifestyle to improve our environment.‎ 1. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?_____________‎ A. To tell readers that many people are living green.‎ B. To express worries about global warming.‎ C. To advise people to learn to live green.‎ D. To show the importance of living green.‎ 2. According to the text, which of the following is NOT true?_____________‎ A. Many people can't recycle glass bottles properly.‎ B. Newspaper is being recycled by some people.‎ C. Driving can cause trouble sometimes.‎ D. Car pooling is not allowed in some countries.‎ 3. What is causing global warming?‎ Passage Two ‎ Yoga(瑜伽)is an ancient practice that helps create a sense of union body, mind, and spirit. It brings us balance. After a long time of practicing yoga, you no longer just practice it-you love it. Yoga becomes part of your physical life. Your body grows stronger, more toned(有弹性的), and more flexible as you move from one pose to another. I spent a week in Mexico at a yoga retreat, and it was the first vacation on which I lost weight. “Rather than building muscles, yoga builds muscle tone,” says Shakta Kaur Khalsa, author of KISS Guide to Yoga. “Because yoga helps maintain a balanced metabolism(新陈代谢), and it also helps to control weight. Additionally, yoga stretches muscles lengthwise, causing fat around the cells disappear, thus losing weight.” I do yoga poses throughout the day. After hours at my computer, I stretch my stiff shoulders and arms. When I need an increase in energy, I do energizing poses. When I am feeling exhausted at the end of the day, I do restorative(恢复体力的)poses. Yoga becomes part of your mental life. Yoga teaches you to focus on breathing while you hold the poses. This attention to breath is calming; it dissolves(使消除)stress and anxiety. I use yogic breathing on the tennis court,in the dentist’s chair, and when I’m stuck in traffic. You should always leave a yoga practice feeling energized, but not tired. If you feel tired after yoga, it means you spent the time “fighting” yourself, trying to force yourself into poses. In yoga, you “surrender” to the poses by letting go of the tension.‎ 4. According to the second paragraph, yoga can help people_____________.‎ A. lose weight B. make friends C. be flexible in thinking D. grow tall 1. Why does a person feel tired after yoga?_____________‎ A. Because when practicing yoga, people will consume a lot of energy.‎ B. Because he or she surrenders to the poses by letting go of the tension.‎ C. Because he o she doesn’t do yoga poses naturally.‎ D. Because yoga doesn’t benefit all the people.‎ 2. What would be the best title for this passage?_____________‎ A. What’s yoga?‎ B. The benefits of yoga.‎ C. How do I do yoga poses?‎ D. The varieties of yoga.‎ 3. What will be talked about if this passage continues?_____________‎ A. The disadvantages of yoga.‎ B. Yoga is becoming popular all over the world.‎ C. Encouraging people to do yoga.‎ D. Yoga is becoming part of your spiritual life.‎ Passage Three Mark Twain left school when he was twelve. He had little school education. In spite of (尽管) this, he became the most famous writer of his time. He made millions of dollars by writing. His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, but he is better known all over the world as Mark Twain, his pen-name. ‎ Mark Twain was born in 1835 and he was not a healthy baby. In fact, he was not expected to live through the first winter. But with his mother’s taking good care, he managed to grow up. As a boy, he caused much trouble for his parents. He used to play jokes on all of his friends and neighbors. He didn’t like to go to school, and he often ran away from home. He always went in the direction of the nearby Mississippi (密西西比河). He was nearly drowned (淹死) nine times.‎ After his father’s death in 1847, Mark twain began to work for a printer, who only provided him with food and clothing. Then, he worked as a printer, a river-boat pilot and later joined the army. But shortly after that he became a miner. During this period, he started to write short stories. Afterwards he became a full-time writer.‎ In 1870, Mark Twain got married. In the years that followed he wrote many books including Tom Sawyer in 1876, and Huckleberry Finn in 1884, which made him famous, and brought him a great fortune (财富).‎ Unfortunately, Mark Twain got into debts in bad investments (投资) and he had to write large numbers of stories to pay these debts. In 1904, his wife died, and then three of their children also died.‎ At the age of 70, his hair was completely white. He bought many white suits and neckties. He wore nothing but white from head to foot until his death in 1910.‎ 4. But think about it for a moment. On the Internet, a big online company can be run by two guys out of their garage. So it is only reasonable that people shopping on the Net would be a little leery of the security levels. ‎ Internet giants such as Microsoft knew consumer confidence was the key to getting virtual (虚拟) shopping off the ground, and they work hard to make people feel safe to shop online.‎ Credit card companies, too, quickly saw the potential for Internet shopping, and have installed things like online shopping insurance for people. If you ever have a problem with your online credit purchases, many credit card companies will happily refund (返还) your money and then set their claws on the company that wronged you. Now that’s buying power!‎ There are other bonuses for online shoppers, of course. No line-ups, for one. No annoying mall shopping carts with broken wheels and kids crying because their parents won’t get them what they want.‎ When shopping online, consumers can sit down, have a coffee, and wear their slippers, not have to worry about their hair or parking and just click through sale after sale. Comparison shopping couldn’t be any easier. And thanks to courier companies(速递公司), you never need wait longer than a day or two to get those all important purchases delivered right to your door.‎ No wonder so many companies are shaking their heads at traditional advertising and instead looking to the “virtual” world to attract online shoppers.‎ 4. The underlined word “leery” means_____________.‎ A. satisfied B. hopeful C. distrustful D. sad 5. ‎_____________leads to consumers’ trust in online shopping.‎ A. Shopping security B. Shopping convenience C. Internet access D. Shopping law 1. Which group of words would the writer use to describe current Internet shopping?‎ A. Adventurous, enjoyable, fast, unreal.‎ B. Unsafe, cheap, slow, convenient.‎ C. Reliable, popular, convenient, slow.‎ D. Safe, convenient, fast, comfortable.‎ 2. The following are thought to have made contributions to the popularity of online shopping EXCEPT _____________.‎ A. internet companies B. advertising companies C. courier companies D. credit card companies 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Creating a good study environment takes a little planning.
