Then perhaps you should consider visiting these five must-visit places for this year. Lake Saiful Muluk At an altitude of 3, 224m, surrounded by snowy mountains, the lake rewards those that make the three-hour uphill walk from Naran. You will find the pathway just above the free market, but the best choice is to get a jeep and share the costs with some other tourists; expect to pay about 700 rupees, worth it to view this natural beauty. Deosai National Park As another high point in Pakistan, it has an average altitude of 4,114m-the Deosai Plains are one of the highest plateaus (高原) in the world. If you make it to the park, you expect to find rich plants and wild animals. The breathtaking scenery on show at the plains is enough to make 2018 a memorable year. Naltar Valley Accessible via a 2.5-hour drive from Gilgit, well worth visiting. Covered with pine trees and other plants, it has a dreamlike feel about it. Various colors all year around make you fall in love. Shangrila Resort Right in the north of Pakistan in the central valley of Gilgit-Baltistan. Locals call this a paradise (乐园), and that’s what it feels like. No visit is complete without checking out the restaurant which is built in the structure of an aircraft. Rama Meadow (牧场) Doesn’t feel like Pakistan at all, more like somewhere in Minnesota. Watch the sheep and cows feeding while clear water flows in streams from high in the mountains. Against Chongra’s ice-covered peak, this little meadow is a piece of art. 21. What is the best means to go to Lake Saiful Muluk? A. Drive a jeep alone. B. Share the jeep ride with others. C. Choose an uphill walk from Naran. D. Follow the pathway above the free market. 22. Where may you go if interested in wild animals? A. Lake Saiful Muluk. B. Naltar Valley. C. Rama Meadow. D. It is a place where dirty water flows in streams. B Georgina, known as Georgie, will turn 16 later this week and organized the party with two friends. Her mother said they had originally looked at the choice of booking a nightclub, but decided the £ 1,000 fee was too expensive. She said, “It seemed that realistically the only place Georgina could have her party was at home.” Georgie’s parents had grown-ups to be in charge, a proper guest list, and a ban on alcohol. So they thought they had her 16th birthday party under control. Unfortunately, it was advertised on Facebook. Around 400 uninvited guests stormed into the family’s townhouse in Brighton on Saturday and gatecrashed (擅自参加) the event. They violently forced their way past the adults on duty, breaking light bulbs, knocking over plants and tearing up the garden. Twelve police cars had to be called in to send them on their way. The troublemakers were the Facebook Republican Army, a group who look for teenage parties to crash through social networking sites. Yesterday Georgie’s mother, Sylvia Meli, said to the newspaper reporter, “It was an absolute horror show. The garden has been ruined and the grass is just mud. I’ll never have a party for my daughter here again. I think Facebook is a major cause, as well as texting.” A gatecrasher said this is just the kind of party they like to gatecrash. They’re in their late teens and early 20s and they are quite intimidating. When they turn up at a teenage party they know that no one will dare to say anything to them so they can do what they want. Once they’ve found a party they put the word out through texts and news spreads fast. A Sussex police spokesman said, “There was a sea of people, and it was difficult to move, which was a major safety problem that required a lot of police time and resources.” Mrs Meli added, “I do understand at that age they have nowhere to go because they couldn’t go to clubs. But invading someone else’s party and wasting police time and money is not the answer.” 24. What made Georgie’s parents give up holding the party at a nightclub? A. The limited time. B. The high cost. C. The safety problem. D. The noisy atmosphere. 25. What can we know about Georgie’s mother? A. She regretted holding the party at home. B. She has disadvantaged backgrounds. C. She arranged the party with Georgie. D. She throws a birthday party for Georgie yearly. 26. What does the underlined word “intimidating” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Ambitious. B. Curious. C. Enthusiastic. D. Frightening. 27. What’s Mrs. Meli’s attitude towards the Facebook Republican Army? A. Supportive. B. Negative. C. Concerned. D. Doubtful. C The times are changing. On Thursday October 13th, 2016, singer-songwriter Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, marking the first time the highly-eyed-on literary (文学的)award has gone to someone who is mainly seen as a musician, and leading to heated discussions. The 75-year-old won the prize “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”, the Swedish Academy said. “For 54 years he has been at it, reinventing himself,” said Sara Danius, the academy’s permanent secretary. “Bob Dylan writes poetry for the ear. But it’s perfectly fine to read his works as poetry.” And while many Dylan’s fans have found great delight at the news, others online and in the literary community are angry with the Committee, saying the award has skipped over fiction writers for the second year. New York Times Book Review editor Pamela Paul said it was good news but pointed out how many “deserving” novelists there are. Director Martin Scorsese put out a statement saying he was “overjoyed” that Dylan was awarded the prize. “Dylan’s poetry, his musical genius, has meant so much to me personally and to generations of people around the world,” Scorsese said. “His work has influenced and shaped culture, and he has never stopped exploring and growing as an artist. The Nobel Committee has given Dylan a form of recognition that fits his role in our culture—in world culture.” Dylan won a Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for his “great influence on popular music and American culture”. He’s the first American to win the literary Nobel since Toni Morrison in 1993. 28. Why does Bob Dylan’s winning the Nobel Prize cause heated discussions? A. He is 75 years old. B. He reinvents himself. C. He is known as a musician. D. He created poetic expressions. 29. What can we know about Dylan according to Martin Scorsese? A. Dylan influences Martin a lot. B. Dylan is happy with the award. C. Dylan is a poet rather than a musician. D. Dylan benefits a lot from world culture. 30. Who is the first American to win Nobel Literature Prize in history? A. Bob Dylan. B. Sara Danius. C. Martin Scorsese. D. Toni Morrison. 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. A brief introduction to Bob Dylan. B. The reason for Bob Dylan’s success. C. Different views on Bob Dylan’s winning the Nobel Prize. D. Bob Dylan’s great influence on American culture. D Four years ago, we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no waiting in lines and no checkout? Or could we create a physical store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go, where you could experience the idea of “just walk out shopping”. Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no checkout required. We created the world’s most advanced shopping technology, so you never have to wait in line. With our “just walk out shopping” experience, simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take the products you want, and go! No lines, no checkout. Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Our “just walk out technology” automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart (虚拟购物车). When you’ve done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt (收据). We offer delicious ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made fresh every day by our on-site chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. Our selection of foodstuff ranges from bread and milk to cheeses and locally made chocolates. You’ll find well-known brands we love, plus special finds we’re excited to introduce to customers. For a quick home-cooked dinner, pick up one of our chef-designed Amazon Meal Kits, and you can make a meal for two in about 30 minutes. Our 1,800-square-foot shopping space is conveniently compact (紧凑的), so busy customers can get in and out fast. The sun’s rays come from the faraway sun. When traveling a long way and entering the earth’s atmosphere, it becomes dilute (稀薄的). As is known to all, solar energy is environmentally friendly. 36 Let’s start with the simple advantage of solar energy. 37 To make electricity or heat with solar energy you only need the sun’s rays and don’t use oil. Solar energy is cheaper compared with electric heating. 38 If you live in a faraway area where there are no power-lines, using solar energy can be the answer. Even though all of the above is very useful, solar energy also has some disadvantages. The main disadvantage of solar energy is that it’s dilute. This means you have to have many solar collectors fixed around your house. 39 Another disadvantage is that not all the places solar energy can be produced. If you’re living in a part of this beautiful planet where there is not much sunlight, then using solar energy could be a problem. Of course if you live in desert areas, the sun produces much sunshine for the most part of the year and it is ideal for solar energy collecting. 40 Therefore if you need electricity or hot water during the night, like many of us do, it can be a problem. You’ll need battery systems that can store solar energy for later use. A. Solar energy is clean. B. The sun has much energy. C. Lastly, the sun only shines during the day. D. That is another big advantage of solar energy. E. Fixing solar collectors in your home is a good choice for you. F. Solar energy may be cheap but the solar collectors are expensive. G. But in fact, it has not only some advantages but also some disadvantages. The sky was getting dark as we walked through the forest.
