Even if they survive the wait, they might experience organ rejection(器官排异) and die. But this problem could be solved soon. On April 15,2019 scientists from Israel's Tel Aviv University announced that they had created a human heart using 3-D printing. “This is the first time anyone anywhere has successfully engineered and printed an entire heart,” scientist Tal Dvir told Ha'aretz. The heart has cells, blood vessels(血管), ventricles(心室) and chambers(心房), just like a real heart. But scientists still have more to figure out before they can start using the heart. For one thing, the new experimental organ is tiny—about half the size of your thumb. It also can't pump(抽吸) blood yet. It's like a tiny airplane that has all of the right parts, but can't fly. Don't laugh, though! This is still a major achievement. The World Health Organization(WHO) says more people die each year from heart diseases than any other cause of death. Dvir and his team used a complicated process, turning human fat tissue(脂肪组织) into human heart tissue with stem cell(干细胞) technology. The tissue was then turned into “bio-ink” for the 3-D printer. Ideally, each printed heart would use tissue taken from the person who needs it. This way, the patients' bodies will be less likely to reject the organ, making transplants much safer. In theory, the technique could be used to produce a new heart in just one day. 5 The team's next step is to develop the technology further and use it to print other human organs. “Maybe, in 10 years, there will be organ printers in the finest hospitals around the world and these procedures(程序) will be conducted(处理) routinely,” Dvir said. 1.What do we know about the 3-D printed heart? ( ) A.It doesn't have blood vessels. B.It is the same size as a real heart. C.It can't function like a real heart yet. D.It looks like a tiny airplane. 2.Why is the 3-D printed heart considered to be a major achievement? ( ) A.Because it is the first time that scientists has tried to print a heart. B.Because it offers some hope to people with heart diseases. C.Because it was produced through a complicated process. D.Because it proved that printing human organs is impossible. 3.What was used to make the printed heart? ( ) A.Fat tissue. B.Heart tissue. C.Stem cells. D.Heart cells. 4.What will Dvir's team do in the future? ( ) A.They will start to print hearts for transplants. B.They will try to shorten the time it takes to print a heart. C.They will improve their technology for wider use. D.They will work with hospitals to develop organ printers. This is the first World Cup to be hosted in three countries. The joint bid, called United 2026, won 134 out of the total 203 votes. Football officials(官员) from the three countries cheered for the news. They said,“It is an important moment to show that we are all truly united through sport. And we are ready to welcome the world to North America and do everything we can for the largest FIFA World Cup in history.” Morocco also wished to host the 2026 World Cup. But the north African nation only got 65 votes, with a score of 2.7 out of 5.0 when checking their ability to host the World Cup while the United 2026 got 4.0 as they have more support from their countries and are better able to cover the cost. Among the four countries, the US hosted a World Cup in 1994 and Mexico held twice in 1970 and in 1986. The World Cup has never been held in Canada or Morocco. Unluckily, it was the fifth time that Morocco had failed to host a World Cup. There is also good news for all football fans.
