As fish populations were decreasing, fishing companies were forced to fish further and further away from the shore. Then they had a big challenge — how to keep the fish fresh for longer. So they decided to keep the fish stored in freezers on the boats. But the public did not like frozen fish. So again the fishing companies had a new bigger challenge. What they decided to do was to have fish tanks on their boats. After catching fishes, they would put them in the tanks and keep them living there until they got back to shore. But in this protected environment, lacking predators(掠食者), the fish slopped moving around. The Japanese public felt these dull fish did not taste fresh, which had an unpleasant effect upon sales. Once again the fishing companies had an even bigger challenge ... ‎ Stop for a minute! Before we go any further, I would like to ask “What are your challenges? How do you handle an unexpected challenge?” May I think it this way that you should try to attack your challenges? Conquer them with a Swiss Army knife. Take the most proper and simple tool that you can adopt to deal with your situation.‎ Now back to our story. How did the Japanese finally figure out the fresh fish problem? Sharks! You might think the same. Sharks were caught and put into the tanks with other fishes. Don’t sharks eat fish? Well, they do eat a few fish, but they did also keep more fish active and alert(警觉的). The fish stay fresh because they are challenged.‎ Now, try to keep yourself fresh by finding your own shark to offer yourself a challenge in your own business and career.‎ ‎25. He also hates immigrants, both from Latin America and the Middle East, for many problems in the US. This has caused a dangerous division in the country—a country made up of many various races.‎ But to his supporters, the fact that Trump is not a typical politician is actually one of his advantages. His habit of never hiding his opinions is also considered by many to be a sign that he is not a hypocrite like many politicians are.‎ ‎“We have seen our country take a downturn in the eyes of the world. We need to go in a different direction,” Binyomin Weisswasser, 39, a man from Chicago, told ‎ the Chicago Tribune. “Trump’s not a politician... I like that he is not always politically correct and speaks his mind. It gives me the feeling that what you see is what you get. You may not like it, but you know what it is.”‎ But interestingly, many who elected Trump actually followed the “lesser of two evils” principle―one that people use when faced with picking from two unpleasant options—simply because they didn’t think Clinton was a better choice.‎ ‎“He’s the candidate I disagree less with,” Jack Stucky, 20, a student at Norwestern University, told the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t think I’d say Donald Trump is going to be the best president ever, but I did think he’d be better than Hillary Clinton.”‎ It’s true that the US is entering a new age. It’s just not clear yet what kind of age it’s going to be.‎ ‎29. What’s the difference between Trump and any president before him?‎ A. He didn’t try to keep a perfect public image B. He was a businessman before the presidential election.‎ C. He gained popularity by his bad reputation.‎ D. He is not always politically correct and speaks his mind.‎ ‎30. The underlined words “a hypocrite” is closely related in meaning to .‎ A. a caring person B. a dishonest person C. a shy person D. a selfish person ‎31. Where can we put the following paragraph?‎ ‎“But no matter how people feel about him, Trump is going to take office as the US president on Jan 20, 2017.”‎ A. Between paragraph 3 and paragraph 4.‎ B. Between paragraph 4 and paragraph 5.‎ C. Between paragraph 6 and paragraph 7.‎ D. Between paragraph 8 and paragraph 9.‎ ‎32. What’s the main idea of the passage?‎ A. It reports on people’s different views on Trump’s victory in the election.‎ B. It explores the advantages Trump has over Hillary in the election.‎ C. It predicts what changes Trump will bring to the US.‎ D. It analyzes the reasons for Trump’s victory in the election.‎ D For many, music is as important to the human experience as eating and breathing. We hear music everywhere—at home, the gym, parties and stores. But what kind of music do we prefer to listen to, and when and why do our musical preferences change?‎ The relationship between the change of seasons and musical preferences was the focus of a study led by Psychologist Terry Pettijohn. He and his team based their research on a previous study that examined the relationship between popular music preferences and the Environmental Security Hypothesis (假设). The results showed that over time, when social and financial conditions were more risky, the songs of the year that were slower, longer, more comforting and serious were most popular. And during periods in which social and financial conditions were generally stable, the result is opposite.‎ Building on these findings, Pettijohn and his team wondered if the Hypothesis could also be applied to the change of seasons. For college students, the participants in this study, autumn begins at the start of the academic school year. Gone are the carefree days of summer, when school is out. Winter means colder temperatures, shorter days, and, in many places in the country, snow. Spring, however, is a different story. It represents a fresh start and when clocks spring(跳跃) forward, we gain an extra hour of daylight. As students walk into summer, they’re absorbed in the sunshine and social activity—and enjoy a break from school.‎ But do changing seasonal conditions influence musical preferences? To answer this question, the researchers designed two studies. What did they find? Both groups of college students favored more serious music during the seasons of fall and winter, and more active and energetic music during the spring and summer seasons. And these findings, Pettijohn believes, have practical significance.‎ 33. 34. The purpose of the question raised in Paragraph 1 is to ___.‎ A. present a different opinion on music B. prove where to listen to music matters C. introduce the topic on musical preferences D. stress the importance of music to humans ‎34. What influences a person’s choice of music types according to the previous study?‎ A. Whether one has enough free time. B. Whether one lives in a stable situation.‎ C. Whether one is exposed to sunlight. D. Whether one chooses to change his life.‎ ‎35. How does Pettijohn feel about the findings of his studies?‎ A. It’s unexpected. B. It’s significant. C. It’s humorous. D. It’s discouraging.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ One of the common complaints we hear from the people around us are problems they are facing. Every day and everywhere there are problems. Many times we find it hard to stay happy. When one problem is solved, another one comes up. How to solve them? The answer is that we must equip ourselves to deal with different kinds of worries by learning the three basic steps of problem analysis. The three steps are:‎ Get the facts Why is it so important to get the facts? Unless you have the facts, you can’t possibly attempt to solve your problem intelligently. Without the facts, all you can do is wondering around in confusion. It is not an easy job to get facts. When you are worried, your emotions are riding high. 36 .‎ When trying to get the facts, you can pretend that you are collecting this information not for yourself but for some other person. 37 . You can also pretend that you are a lawyer preparing to agree. Try to get all the facts both on your side and the other side of the case. You will generally find the truth lies somewhere in between.‎ ‎ 38 .‎ Whenever you are worried, write down the questions that make you worry. And write out all the various steps you could take and then the probable consequences of each step. For example, what am I worrying about? What can I do about it? Here is what I’m going to do about it. After carefully weighing all the facts, you can calmly come to a decision.‎ Act on that decision.‎ ‎ 39 . How can you break the worry habit before it breaks you? Crowd worry out of your mind by keeping busy. Plenty of action is one of the best ways to cure worry. ‎ ‎ 40 . If you know a situation is beyond your power, say to yourself: “It is so; it can’t be otherwise.” Don’t permit little things to ruin your happiness. Try to cultivate a mental attitude that will bring you peace and happiness.‎ A. Analyze the facts.‎ B. Accept what can’t be avoided.‎ C. Decide how much anxiety a thing may be worth.‎ D. This will help you to take a cold and fair view of the evidence.‎ E. There comes a time when you must decide and never look back.‎ F. But here are two ideas that can help you see the facts in a clear and objective way.‎ G. Unless you take your action, all your fact-finding and analysis is a sheer waste of energy.‎ 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ ‎ Today I would like to tell a story about patience.
