I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Place. Before setting off, I researched into it on the Internet. The Summer Palace ‎ is composed mostly of a lake, but it’s surrounded by beautiful greenery and a walkway that circles the lake. It is recommended that you give the Summer Palace about three hours. If you try to walk around it, it could take five or six hours. With that knowledge of it, I set off.‎ ‎ The highlight of the tour had to be the view from the Tower of Buddhist Incense. It sits on top of a large hill overlooking the lake and that is worth the climb. It was built as a place to worship (朝拜) Buddha. And in the Summer Palace, unlike most of the other places, photography wasn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Most of the statues of Buddha and the other artifacts(手工艺品) were off-limits to photo.‎ ‎ Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress where she watched the opera and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in all of Imperial China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage.‎ ‎ I do recommend taking a boat ride if you go, which takes you from one side of the lake to the other side where you can see another set of buildings. And it is fun. You can also rent an electric or paddle boat if you want. But since it was just me, I went on one of the biggest boats with other people.‎ ‎ I spent another four hours wandering around the Summer Palace. But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again.‎ ‎24. What do we know about the second highlight mentioned in the text?‎ A. It sits on top of a hill. ‎ B. It is the largest stage all over China.‎ C. Operas are performed there at times. ‎ D. It was for the royalty to watch performance.‎ ‎27. Why did the author choose to take a ride in a bit boat instead of other boats?‎ A. Because the author was persuaded to do that.‎ B. Because the author wanted to be more comfortable.‎ C. Because the author wanted to save money.‎ D.Because it was more suitable for the author to do that.‎ ‎ C ‎ Do you know why I like playing golf close to Thanksgiving in New England? I usually have the whole course to myself. I enjoy my round just a little bit more when I don’t feel rushed. Yep, this time of year, I can squeeze out 18 holes in about 5 hours. ‎ ‎ Now I know what some of you are thinking, “Five hours? Are you crazy? What are you , a tortoise? With no one in front of me, I could finish a round way faster than that!” Yep, I think you could. But if you find yourself alone, on a perfect day, on the golf course, at the end of the season, and you blow through your round in 3 hours … I have news for you: You’re an idiot.‎ ‎ Why? When we set out to do something, must we do it in the fastest way? How can this possibly make sense for everything we do? I mean I understand haste(匆忙)when the situation requires it. Then how about this one: “What a beautiful day to be out on the golf course! There’s a cool breeze, warm sun and it appears we’ re the only group for several holes! Let’s play as fast as humanly possible”‎ ‎ Sounds preposterous, right? See, that’s my thought exactly. Yet, there are many, many golfers who are off to the races the second they step foot on the first tee(球座)—like it’s a challenge to finish in record time. You know, they have a golf expression for that.‎ ‎ This is a game you love. You’ve been waiting all the week to play and spending a big sum of money on new golf ball. Then what are you rushing for? Look, no one likes to wait on every hole, but there is a difference among waiting, slowing down and enjoying. Next time you’ve got a few holes open behind you, slow it down and enjoy—you’ll find 5 hours isn’t ‎ so bad after all.‎ ‎28. The author likes playing golf close to Thanksgiving in New England because he_____‎ A. is more likely to win then ‎ B. can play with some friends ‎ C. can really enjoy playing golf ‎ D. can play more holes than usual ‎29. According to Paragraph 2, what do some people think of playing golf for 5 hours?‎ ‎ A. Relaxing. B. Unacceptable . C. Costly. D. Normal.‎ ‎30. The underlined word “preposterous” in Paragraph 4 probably means”___”‎ A. ridiculous B. familiar C. amazing D. correct ‎31. What is the text mainly about?‎ A. Telling how people usually play golf. ‎ B. Telling readers how to play golf better.‎ C. Showing when it is the best time to play golf. ‎ D. Encouraging people to slow down when playing golf ‎ D Research has found that adults today have fewer friends than they did in the 1980s, and that more people say they have no one to discuss important stuff with.‎ Play the violin. Not just play it —and sing along. A new study suggests that singing is an effective way to make new friends because it helps us bond quickly with others.‎ For the study, led by Eiluned Pearce, Ph. D. at Oxford University, researchers looked at participants aged 18 to 83 in adult education classes organized by the Workers’ Education Association in the UK. Eighty-four participants were enrolled in one of four singing classes; 51 participants were enrolled in one of two creative crafts classes or a creative writing class.‎ Over a period of seven months, the classes went weekly. During the first, third, and final months, researchers asked participants to tell how close they felt to their classmates. Results showed something surprising. Although participants in all the classes felt closer to their classmates by the study’s end, participants in the singing classes developed that closeness much more quickly.‎ As for why exactly singing leads to fast group bonding, the researchers say one possible reason is that everyone does it at the same time. Compare that with creative writing or crafting, where everyone is working on an individual project. Another possible cause, according to the researchers, is that singing involves muscular effort, which causes the release of certain molecules(分子) that can make us happier and more willing to cooperate.‎ The point here is that singing can be a great icebreaker among large groups of strangers, which can lead to individual friendships down the line. “Really close relationships still depend on communication between individuals or much smaller groups,” Pearce said in a release, “but this study shows singing can start the bonding process.”‎ ‎32. What has research found about today’s adults?‎ A. They don’t really want friends. ‎ B. They are looking for new friends.‎ C. They have fewer friends that before. ‎ D. They like discussing important things with friends ‎33.The researchers didn’t expect that______.‎ A. creative writing classes help people bond B. the participants would become closer to others C. so many participants would take singing classes D. participants in the singing classes would bond so quickly ‎34. Paragraph 5 shows that reasons for the results of the research are_____.‎ A. very cheering B. very interesting ‎ C. a bit confusing D. not completely possible ‎35. According to Eiluned Pearce, really close relationships _________.‎ A. are easy to develop ‎ B. depend on one’s attitude C. often occur in large groups ‎ D. rely on individual communication 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项种选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ Unusual ways to find time to exercise ‎ More than ever before , it is difficult to find time to exercise. ___36__ This does not leave a lot of spare time for you to work out and stay fit.
