Moreover, there are more academic clubs. The history club, for example, meets once a week and takes trips to interesting places as well as inviting guest speakers to talk. I’d advise that you look around all of the clubs before joining any because you have to pay to be a member of most of them and you don’t want to run out of money in your first week! Next, I have to tell you about the process of registering for your courses. First, you have to go to the university administration building to get your registration documents. Don’t forget to take your ID. Secondly, take your document to see the head of the department of each course that you want to take. You’ll find the room numbers for each class on the registration document. Besides, remember to get a book list for each course when you see the head of the department. Finally, return the completed document to the university administration building. You will then be given a library card. If you have any problems with accommodation, please go to the secretary office, not your academic department. Where to buy the Angkor pass部分的The main ticket sales office is the Angkor Conservation Area ticket booth on Charles de Gaulle road. All Angkor passes are available here.(主要的售票处是位于戴高乐路的吴哥窑保护区售票处。 根据Types of passes部分的◆3days at US $62和Admission for children younger than 12 is free.(3天62美元的门票和12岁以下儿童是免费的。) Make sure the pass is not stamped or holes aren't punched (打孔) into it, which invalidates it. D。 B Mom and I were putting the finishing touches on dinner, and my little niece Jessica came in to set the table. Instead of going to the dish cabinet, she went into the pantry where there was a stack of old, mismatched dinner plates on the bottom shelf. When she had set all six places, she stood back and sighed, "Oh, Grandma, your plates are so beautiful. Ours are all alike!" We had a good laugh at her innocent remark, but as I think back to all those years ago, I believe she was right. Those plates were beautiful. Mom worked for the local council on aging as a housekeeper. She did many of the little things that allowed elderly people to stay in their own homes. Most of her clients got Meals on Wheels, a service in the 1970s. They received a hot lunch and a cold snack to have later in the evening. This is really not very much food. Every evening Mom would make to-go meals on these mismatched plates covered with aluminum foil, and then deliver them to the people who she knew didn't get enough to eat. This was about ten years before microwave ovens became common so it was important that the food be on a plate that could be reheated in a regular oven. Instead of a cold sandwich and macaroni salad, Mom's clients dined on Beef Manhattans, pan-fried chicken or meatloaf, along with veggies and a piece of pie or cake. Mom and Dad did this even after Mom left her job, and Mom continued after Dad's death until all her former clients had either passed away or moved out. When I was cleaning our Mom's house after her death, I kept one as a souvenir. That plate is a sweet reminder of the lessons of generosity and caring for one's neighbor that were modeled for me by my parents. 24. Why did the author think those plates beautiful? A They were not all alike. B. They were little Jessica's pride. C. They were collected from different places. D. They were symbols of the parents' kindness. 25. What did the author's mother do to earn a living in the 1970s? A. Be a housewife. B. Run Meals on Wheels. C. Deliver food to houses. D. Do housework for the old. 26. Why did the author's mother make to-go meals? A. It was her job. B. She was good at cooking. C. She wanted to help beyond her duty. D. Her family didn't have enough to eat. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. Mother’s plates of Sympathy B. My Precious Souvenir C. Services for the Senior D. A Kind-hearted Mother 【答案】24. D 25. D 26. C 27. 根据最后一段中“That plate is a sweet reminder of the lessons of generosity and caring for one’s neighbor that were modeled for me by my parents.(这个盘子提醒着我一段甜美的训诫,慷慨和关心邻居是我父母为我树立的榜样)”由此可知,这些盘子是父母善良的象征,所以它们很美。 根据第三段中“Mom worked for the local council on aging as a housekeeper. She did many of the little things that allowed elderly people to stay in their own homes. Most of her clients got Meals on Wheels, a service in the 1970s.(妈妈在当地老龄问题委员会做管家。她做了许多小事,让老年人可以住在自己的家里。她的大多数客户都有“上门送餐”服务,这是 20 世纪 70 年代的一项服务)”由此可知,作者的母亲在 20 世纪 70 年代是靠为老人做家务谋生的。故选D。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Every evening Mom would make to-go meals on these mismatched plates covered with aluminum foil, and then deliver them to the people who she knew didn’t get enough to eat.( 每天晚上,妈妈都会用这些不配套的盘子做外卖,盘子上盖着铝箔纸,然后把它们送到她知道没有足够食物的人那里)”由此判断出,作者的母亲之所以做外卖,是她想在她的职责之外给人提供帮助。 根据最后一段“When I was cleaning our Mom’s house after her death, I kept one as a souvenir. That plate is a sweet reminder of the lessons of generosity and caring for one’s neighbor that were modeled for me by my parents.(妈妈去世后,我在打扫她的房子时,留了一个作为纪念。这个盘子提醒着我这段甜美的记忆,慷慨和关心邻居是我父母为我树立的榜样)”结合这篇文章讲述了妈妈在职务之外用一些盘子为人提供帮助的故事。在作者眼里这些盘子是美的,同时父母的慷慨和关心邻居为作者也树立了榜样。由此可知,A选项“妈妈代表爱心的盘子”最符合文章标题。故选 A。 C Music is not just a set of sounds and rhythms. Its influence on the brain is much deeper than any other human experience. Keep on reading to know all those amazing powers of music. A recent study suggests that preterm ( 早产的) babies appear to experience less pain and feed more when listening to music. Experts led by Dr. Manoj Kumar of the University of Alberta, Canada, found that music had a beneficial effect on reducing pain for preterm babies experiencing painful medical tests. It also appeared to benefit full-term babies during operations. Many people experiencing brain damage have speech and movement-related problems. Music can help recover from brain injuries. As a different and effective treatment, doctors often advise such patients to listen to good music to improve the parts of the brain responsible for these two functions. When people with neurological (神经的) disorders hear a musical beat, it helps them to regain a balanced walk. Though music cannot make deafness disappear, it really can stave off the loss of hearing. There was an experiment involving 163 people where 74 were musicians. Participants were asked to pass some listening tests. Musicians heard the sounds better than non-musicians, and this difference gets clearer with age. This means that a 70-year-old musician hears better than a 50-year-old non-musician, even in a noisy environment. Besides, music mends a broken heart. It is not about a thrown-away love, but about a heart attack. The matter is that music can help people recover from a heart attack or heart operation by reducing blood pressure, slowing down the heartbeat rate, and reducing anxiety. Listening to the quality music produces positive emotions, improves the movement of blood, and expands blood vessels, thus, promoting quick recovery of the whole cardiovascular (心血管的) system. 28. How does music affect preterm babies? A. It helps babies feel less suffering. B. It helps develop their potential in music. C. It helps improve their hearing systems. D. It helps repair their neurological systems. 29. What does the underlined phrase "stave off" in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Lead to B. Increase C. Prevent D. Break into 30. Why can music mend a broken heart? A. It has a positive effect on human body systems' work. B. It can help people prevent diseases caused by anxiety. C. It helps make a person feel optimistic about life. D. It can help patients recover in a slow way. 31. What may be the best title for the text? A. Babies can benefit from music B. The best power of music C. The way to choose quality music D. How music affects our mind and body 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. A 31. 第二段第一句“A recent study suggests that preterm (早产的) babies appear to experience less pain and feed more when listening to music.(最近的一项研究表明,早产婴儿在听音乐时疼痛感减轻,进食量增加。)” 因此,A选项“It helps babies feel less suffering.( 它可以帮助早产儿减少痛苦的感觉)”符合题意,故选A项。 根据划线部分第四段第一句的转折关系,以及“Participants were asked to pass some listening tests. Musicians heard the sounds better than non-musicians, and this difference gets clearer with age. This means that a 70-year-old musician hears better than a 50-year-old non-musician, even in a noisy environment.( 参与者被要求通过一些听力测试。音乐家听到的声音比非音乐家好,而且这种差别随着年龄的增长而越来越明显。这意味着即使在嘈杂的环境中,70岁的音乐家比50岁的非音乐家的听觉更好。)”可知,音乐家比非音乐家听到的声音好,而且这种差异随着年龄的增长而越来越明显。这意味着,即使在嘈杂的环境中,70 岁的音乐家的听觉也比 50 岁的非音乐家强,因此划线词所在句子的意思为“Though music cannot make deafness disappear, it really can stave off the loss of hearing.( 虽然音乐不能使耳聋消失,但它确实可以预防听力的丧失。)” 最后一段最后一句“Listening to the quality music produces positive emotions, improves the movement of blood, and expands blood vessels, thus, promoting quick recovery of the whole cardiovascular (心血管的) system.(听高质量的音乐能产生积极的情绪,促进血液流动,扩张血管,从而促进整个心血管系统的快速恢复。)” 因此,音乐能治愈一颗破碎的心 是因为A选项“It has a positive effect on human body systems' work.( 它对人体系统的工作有积极的影响。)” 通读全文可知,结合每段的主题句:本文第一段“Keep on reading to know all those amazing powers of music.(继续阅读,了解音乐的神奇力量。)”;第二段第一句“A recent study suggests that preterm ( 早产的) babies appear to experience less pain and feed more when listening to music. ( 最近的一项研究表明,早产婴儿听音乐时疼痛感减轻,进食量增加。)”;第三段第二句“Music can help recover from brain injuries.( 音乐有助于脑损伤的康复。)”;第四段第一句“Though music cannot make deafness disappear, it really can stave off the loss of hearing. ( 虽然音乐不能使耳聋消失,但它确实可以避免听力的丧失。)” ;第五段第一句“Besides, music mends a broken heart. (此外,音乐能抚平破碎的心。)”可知,本文主要说明音乐对人身体和心理的积极影响。因此,本文的最佳标题为“How music affects our mind and body(音乐如何影响我们的身心)”符合题意,故选D项。 D Recently, researchers at the University of Toronto figured out a way with a quick video selfie to accurately measure blood pressure with your smartphone’s camera by developing a technology known as transdermal optical imaging (TOI)(透皮光学成像). Cameras on smartphones can catch red light reflected from hemoglobin (血红素)under our skin which permits TOI to visualize and measure blood flow changes. Researchers measured the blood pressure of 1,328 Canadian and Chinese adults by getting two-minute videos of their faces on an iPhone. “From the video got by the technology, you can see how the blood flows in different parts of the face and through this flow, you can get a lot of information,” said Kang Lee, lead author of the study. Lee also helped create an app called Anura, which allows people to try out the TOI software for themselves, giving them the ability to record a 30-second video of their face and receive measurements for stress levels and resting heart rate. Lee said more research was needed to make sure that the measurements were as accurate as possible, explaining that the study didn’t test people with very dark or very fair skin. “In order to improve our app to make it usable, particularly for people with hypertension (高血压),we need to collect a lot of data from them, which is very hard because a lot of them are already taking medicine,” Lee explained. “We cannot tell them not to take medicine, but from time to time, we get participants who don’t take medicine so we can get hypertensive people this way.” The scientists said there were many potential applications of the technology, including providing health services for those who lived in remote areas. 32. What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 2? A. Information offered by TOI. B. New findings on hypertension. C. How TOI is put into smart phones. D. How the TOI technology works. 33. What might people benefit from the new technology mentioned above? A. Living a life free from stress. B. Improving the heart function gradually. C. Accessing health services for free. D. Knowing abnormal blood pressure earlier. 34. What can be done for a better Anura? A. Equipping phones with better cameras. B Allowing phones to record longer videos. C. Collecting data from more diverse samples. D. Persuading participants not to take medicine. 35. Why does the author write this text? A. To predict future applications of TOI. B. To introduce TOI and an app related. C. To describe functions of cameras on phones. D. To evaluate the quality of an app called Anura. D 33. D 34. C 35. Cameras on smartphones can catch red light reflected from hemoglobin (血红素)under our skin, which permits TOI to visualize and measure blood flow changes. From the video got by the technology, you can see how the blood flows in different parts of the face and through this flow, you can get a lot of information(从技术获得的视频中,你可以看到血液是如何在面部的不同部位流动的,通过这种流动,你可以得到很多信息)和第三段的giving them the ability to record a 30-second video of their face and receive measurements for stress levels and resting heart rate.(让他们能够记录30秒的面部视频,并收到压力水平和静息心率的测量。) Lee said more research was needed to make sure that the measurements were as accurate as possible, explaining that the study didn’t test people with very dark or very fair skin.(李说,需要更多的研究来确保测量尽可能准确,解释说这项研究没有测试皮肤非常暗或非常白皙的人。) Many people consider “being alone” an awful thing, for they think it either means you're antisocial, or unwanted. That’s how the guidebook described Giant Rock. Dad said it arrived here millions of years ago. I was finally going to see it, in snowshoes, with my two older cousins, my dad, and my uncle Don. I’d been snowshoeing before, and I liked the adventure of hiking through deep snow. At the parking area, after putting on our snowshoes, we studied the map. Due to the geographical location, electrical devices are inaccessible here. The map is our only guide. "We start here," Dad said,” on the red trail(小路). Then we turn left onto the purple road. That’s where Giant Rock is. " " Remember to stick together and don’t wander off, guys," Uncle Don said. The trail ran uphill alongside a stone wall. It was easy to follow because red markers were nailed to the trees and the snow had been packed down by other hikers. At the top of the hill, we turned onto the purple trail. We settled into a pattern, with Dad and everyone else in front and me in the back, crunching(嘎吱嘎吱地踩)through the snow. I saw lots of animal tracks — mostly deer, squirrel, and rabbit prints. As the trail wound down, my cousin Andrew said what I’d been thinking :"Will we ever reach Giant Rock?" My cousin Aiden smiled and turned to me, "Luke, do you think your dad invented this idea just to get us away from the TV for a while?" I laughed. "You never know." Finally, we climbed a hill and saw the massive boulder sitting alone in the forest. It really is as big as a house! My cousins and I high-fived each other and jogged until we stood at the base, breathless. Standing in the boulders broad shadow, I noticed the sun had sunk lower. “Let’s head back," Dad said after a few minutes. "I here will be several crossroads on the way back. Guys, keep up with the team. " Soon we were crunch-crunch-crunching our way home. I was a little behind the group when we approached a crossroads. And I noticed a set of animal tracks I didn’t recognize, so I followed them for a closer look. Paragraph 1 : I looked up when I suddenly realized how quiet it had gotten. Paragraph 2 : As going worriedly, I heard voices, someone calling far away. Paragraph 1: I looked up when I suddenly realized how quiet it had gotten. "Where is everyone?" I shouted. Nothing. “They couldn't have gone far. I’ll catch up if I hurry.” I comforted myself. After a short walk, I came to the crossroads where I could turn left or go straight, but both trails had red markers. I turned to the left which looked familiar. Unfortunately, it got quieter and quieter. Soon it might be too dark to tell what color the markers were. What if I couldn’t find my way back? Paragraph 2: As going worriedly I heard voices, someone calling far away. Following the voices, I noticed the stone wall, the trail running alongside it. It must be right way back! I rushed downhill with big steps. Then, I saw the parking area, and my family! I shouted as I ran toward them. "Luke? Are you OK?" The voice of Dad was urgent. I’d only been lost for minutes, but it seemed like forever. Now all I wanted was a bear hug from Dad and to make tracks for home. After a short walk, I came to the crossroads where I could turn left or go straight。 Soon it might be too dark to tell what color the markers were.
