Part 1 History and Present Presenter: The University of Cambridge is a collegiate public research university in England. It was located in the south-east of England. Originally founded in 1209 , it is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world, and the world's third-oldest surviving university. Early records suggest that Cambridge was found by about 3000 scholars who leaving from Oxford after a dispute with townsfolk. The official founding of Cambridge University’s enhancement is traced to 1231, supported by King Henry III. After that, Cambridge stepped into a fast-develop period. cam H istory P resent Today, Cambridge is formed from a variety of institutions that include 31 constituent colleges and comprehensive academic departments which are organised into six Schools . In science, 90 Nobel laureates have been affiliated with the University, which is the most around the world. In 2013, it was judged as the world's best universities . P resent In economy and science aspect, Cambridge's endowment (£ 4.9 billion as of 2013) is the largest of any European university. In the year ended 31 July 2013, the university had a total income of £ 1.44 billion, of which £332 million was from research grants and contracts. Cambridge University Press, a department of the university, is the world's oldest publishing house, and the second-largest university press in the world. Cambridge University Library holds over 8 million books and is a legal deposit library. Part 2 C olleges and Celebrities Presenter: Tri nity College Trinity College was founded by Henry VIII in 1546 as part of the University of Cambridge. Trinity exists to give its members a rewarding, richly resourced, and intellectually inspiring place in which to pursue their education and research.in science, Trinity has provided 32 Nobel Prize winners since they were first awarded in 1901. Today the College is regarded as the best college in Cambridge. He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential . Francis Bacon Francis Bacon , ( 22 January 1561 – 9 April 1626), was an English philosopher , statesman, scientist, jurist, orator, essayist, and author . His works established and popularised inductive methodologies for scientific inquiry. After his death, he remained extremely influential through his works until now. Celebrities from Trinity King’ s college King's College was founded in 1441 by Henry VI (1421-71) and is one of the 31 colleges in the University of Cambridge. King's has an outstanding academic record and is also world-famous for its Chapel and choir. King's has a strong tradition in research . In science, King’s has provided 10 Nobel Prize winners Xu Zhimo Xu Zhimo ( January 15, 1897 – November 19, 1931) was an early 20th-century Chinese poet . He is known for his promotion of modern Chinese poetry, and has made tremendous contributions to modern Chinese literature. Celebrities from King Alan Mathison Turing Alan Mathison Turing , (23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954) was a British mathematician, logician , cryptanalyst , computer scientist and philosopher . He was highly influential in the development of computer science , and he is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence . It was established between 1496 and 1516 on the site of the twelfth-century Benedictine nunnery of St Mary.
