Here are four well-known environmental organizations.‎ World Wildlife Fund (WWF)‎ The World Wildlife Fund is perhaps one of the best-known organizations for the protection of endangered species and their habitats around the world. The've been around for over 45 years. You can donate through their website worldwildlife.org, join their organization as a member, or adopt an animal through their online adoption center.‎ National Geographic Society (NGS)‎ National Geographic Society is well-known for their magazine and their specials on TV. The organization itself is one of the longest-running in the world—they've been around since 1888, focus on exploration and conservation of forests, oceans, habitats, species and societies. You choose to donate through the website nationalgeographic.com, buy something at their online store, or order a magazine subscription.‎ National Wildlife Federation (NWF)‎ Founded officially in 1937, the National Wildlife Federation tries to protect wildlife at all costs. In fact, they believe that having the public educated is the best way ‎ to help the environment—-the more you know, the more you can protect the world we live in. Donations to the NWF can be made through their website nwf. org or through other options, like matching gifts, workplace giving, or memorial donations.‎ Ecology Fund, com Set up in 1976,Ecology Fund, com is run on user clicks. Advertisers buy ad space on the site every time someone clicks. The money goes to buy endangered wilderness land to protect it from companies that would destroy it. So far, Ecology Fund, com has bought land in many areas. The best thing about this site is that you needn't donate any money—all you have to do is to click.‎ ‎21.Which environmental organization has the longest history? ‎ A. Ecology Fund.com.                                     B. World Wildlife Fund.‎ C. National Geographic Society.             D. National Wildlife Federation.‎ ‎22.What does NWF think is the most important in environmental protection? ‎ A. Knowledge.      B. Management.           C. Money.              D. Patience.‎ ‎23.In what way does EcologyFund.com differ from the other three organizations? ‎ A. The size of networks.  B. The way of operation.‎ C. The strength of influence.  D. The degree of popularity.‎ B Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are a booklover or merely go there to buy a book as a present. You may even have entered the shop just to find shelter from a sudden shower. Whatever the reason, you can soon become totally unaware of your surroundings.‎ The desire to pick up a book with an attractive dust jacket is greatly strong, although this method of selection ought not to be followed, as you might end up with a rather dull book.‎ You soon become interested in some book or other, and usually it is only much later that you realize you have spent far too much time there and must dash off to keep some forgotten appointment—without buying a book, of course.‎ This opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life is, I think, the main attraction of a bookshop. There are not many places where it is possible to do this. A music shop is very much like a bookshop. You can wander round such places to your heart’s content. If it is a good shop, no assistant will approach you with the unavoidable greeting:“Can I help you, sir?” You needn't buy anything you don’t want. In a bookshop an assistant should remain in the background until you have finished browsing. Then, and only then, are his services necessary. Of course, you may want to find out where a ‎ particular section is, but when he has led you there, the assistant should retire discreetly (谨慎的) and look as if he is not interested in selling a single book.‎ You have to be careful not to be attracted by the variety of books in a bookshop. It is very easy to enter the shop looking for a book on, say ancient coins and to come out carrying a copy of the latest best-selling novel and perhaps a book about brassrubbing—something which had only slightly interested you up till then. This volume on the subject, however, happened to be so well illustrated and the part of the text you read proved so interesting that you just had to buy it. This sort of thing can be very dangerous. Apart from running up a huge account, you can waste a great deal of time wandering from section to section.‎ ‎24.The underlined phrase “dust jacket” means ________.‎ A. a kind of clothes B. a paper cover of a book C. a dusty book D. a title of a book ‎25. You may spend too much time in a bookshop because________.‎ A. the dust jackets are very attractive B. you start reading one of the books C. it is raining outside D. you have to make sure you won’t buy a dull book as a present ‎26. In a good bookshop________.‎ A. all the books there are interesting B. the assistant greets you in a warm way C. your heart is satisfied D. you feel that you are in a music shop ‎27. The best title for this passage may be________.‎ A.The Attraction of Bookshops B. How to Spend Your Time C. Bookshops and Their Assistants D. How to Select Books C For the past 3000 years, when people thought of money, they thought of cash. From buying food to settling bar tabs, day-to-day dealings involved paper or clinking bits of metal. Over the past decade, however, digital payments have taken off — tapping your plastic on a terminal or swiping a smartphone has become normal. Now this revolution is about to turn cash into an endangered species in some rich economies. That will make the economy more efficient, but it also causes new problems that could hold the economic transition.‎ Countries are eliminating(消除)cash at varying speeds. But the direction of travel is clear, and in some cases the journey is nearly complete. In Sweden the number of retail cash dealings per person has fallen by 80% in the past ten years. Cash accounts for just 6% of purchases by value in Norway. Britain is probably four or six years behind the above countries. America is perhaps a decade behind. Outside the rich world, cash is ‎ still king. But even there its leading role is being weakened. In China, digital payments rose from 4% of all payments in 2012 to 34% in 2017.‎ Cash is dying out because of two forces. One is demand — younger consumers want payment systems that go seamlessly(无缝地 )into their digital lives. But equally important, suppliers such as banks and tech firms (in developed markets) and telecoms companies (in emerging ones) are developing fast, easy-to-use payment technologies from which they can pull data and pocket fees.‎ In the main the prospect of a cashless economy is excellent news. Cash is inefficient. In rich countries, minting(铸造), sorting, storing and distributing it is estimated to cost about 0.5% of GDP. But that does not begin to capture the gains. When payments disappear, people and shops are not much easier to be stolen. Governments can keep closer tabs on fraud or tax avoidance. Digitalization vastly expands the playground of small businesses and individual traders by enabling them to sell beyond their borders. It also creates a credit history, helping consumers borrow.‎ ‎28. What is the purpose of Paragraph 1?‎ A. To show an example of using cash. ‎ B. To introduce the main topic of the text.‎ C. To present the development of cash. ‎ D. To explain the history of digital payments.‎ ‎29. What can we know from Paragraph 2?‎ A. Sweden has completely eliminated cash.‎ B. Digital payments have replaced cash in rich countries.‎ C. Britain develops faster than China in digital payments.‎ D. Both developed and developing countries are using cash less.‎ ‎30. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?‎ A. The ways of digital payments. ‎ B. The effects of cash dying out.‎ C. The reasons for cash being endangered.  ‎ D. The importance of digital payments.‎ ‎31. What is the author’s attitude towards cashless economy?‎ A. Supportive. B. Neutral.  C. Indifferent.  D. Disapproving.‎ D I.M. Pei, whose modern designs and high-profile projects made him one of the best-known architects with many great works of the 20th century, has died. He was 102. A spokesman for Pei’s New York architecture firm confirmed his death to the Associated Press. Pei, whose works included a controversial creation of Paris’Louvre Museum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, died overnight, his son ‎ Chien Chung Pei told the New York Times.‎ Ieoh Ming Pei, the son of an outstanding banker in China, left his homeland in 1935, moving to the US and studying architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard. After teaching and working for the US government, he went to work for a New York developer in 1948 and started his own firm in 1955.‎ The museums, municipal buildings, hotels, schools and other structures that Pei built around the world showed precision geometry(几何结构)and an abstract quality with an admiration for light. They were composed of stone, steel and glass and, as with the Louvre, Pei often worked glass pyramids into his projects.‎ The Louvre, parts of which date to the 12th century, proved to be Pei’s most controversial work, starting with the fact that he was not French. After being chosen for the job by the then president, François Mitterrand, Pei began by making a four-month study of the museum and French history. He created a futuristic(极其现代的)70ft-tall steel-framed, glass-walled pyramid as a grand entrance for the museum with three smaller pyramids nearby. ‎ Pei said the Louvre was undoubtedly the most difficult job of his career. He said he had wanted to create a modern space that did not detract(减损)from the traditional part of the museum. “Contemporary architects tend to put modernity on something,” he said in a New York Times interview in 2008. “There is a certain concern for history but it’s not very deep. I understand that time has changed, we have developed. But I don’t want to forget the beginning. A lasting architecture has to have roots.”‎ When Pei won the international Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1983, he used the $100,000 award to start a program for aspiring Chinese architects to study in the US. Even though he formally retired from his firm in 1990, Pei was still taking on projects in his late 80s, such as museums in Luxembourg, Qatar and his ancestral home of Suzhou.‎ ‎32.What can we learn from the passage?‎ A.Pei designed the Louvre in Paris in France.‎ B.Pei is famous for traditional designs in architecture.‎ C. Pei set up his own firm with the help of a New York developer.‎ D. Pei put the elements light and glass pyramids into the Louvre.‎ ‎33. What is the purpose of Paragraph 5?‎ A. To explain Pei’s idea about the Louvre creation job.‎ B. To list the modernity of the Louvre creation.‎ C. To show Pei’s love for traditional culture.‎ D. To present Pei’s contributions to architecture in history.‎ ‎34. What word can best describe Pei?‎ A. Productive and stubborn.         B. Generous and persistent.‎ C. Hard-working and humorous.   D. Tolerant and considerate.‎ ‎35. From which is the text probably taken?‎ A. A diary.   B. An interview.  C. A statement.   D.
