2019届二轮复习阅读理解专题七选五类型模拟试题10篇训练之十九 [一] “A question brought me to the point of ending my life when I was fifty years old. My question was the simplest one that lies in every person. It is the question without which life is impossible: Why do I live?1 Is there anything in my life that will not be destroyed by my death?” These are the words of the famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. Many people ask these difficult questions. And they struggle to find meaning in their life. Tolstoy spent his whole life trying to answer difficult questions like these.2 In the 1850s,Leo Tolstoy wrote his first stories. He wrote about his experiences in the military. He also told stories about when he was a child.3 He was finally successful. He earned respect from many wealthy and intelligent men, who talked a lot about faith and the meaning of life. But soon he found they were proud and they made very bad moral choices. 4 He opened a school for the children of people who worked on his land. They were very poor. He wanted to help them because he thought they were more honest than the wealthy people he knew. Tolstoy learned many things from his workers. He respected how they worked hard to provide for their families.5 So in 1862,Leo Tolstoy married a young woman named Sonya Behrs. The next 15 years were the best years of Tolstoy’s life. It was during this time that he wrote his most famous books—War and Peace and Anna Karenina. They communicate what he thought was the answer to all his questions—humans were supposed to live a simple life and take care of their families. A. These works were published and Tolstoy became a well-known writer. B. How can I realize my dream if I have one? C. Why do I wish for anything, or do anything? D. He gained a lot of inspirations which had great influence on his following actions. E. His search for answers influenced his writing. F. So in the 1860s,Tolstoy tried a different way to find the meaning of life. G. He began to believe that marriage and family would give his life meaning. 1.C 根据空处上句“Why do I live?”和空处下句“Is there anything in my life that will not be destroyed by my death?” 2.E 根据空处上句“Tolstoy spent his whole life trying to answer difficult questions like these.” 3.A 根据空处前两句“He wrote about his experiences in the military. He also told stories about when he was a child.” 4.F 根据空处所在的位置可知,空处为该段的主题句;由该段中“He opened a school for the children of people who worked on his land. They were very poor. He wanted to help them because he thought they were more honest than the wealthy people he knew.” 5.G 根据空处下句“So in 1862,Leo Tolstoy married a young woman named Sonya Behrs.” [二] What to Do When Someone Doesn’t Like You When someone tells me, “I don’t care if people like me,” they are showing me the emotional wall they use to block the hurt of rejection. As humans are social animals, all of us care if people like us. Based on the need for social connection, your reactions to rejection and negative judgment can range from minor hurt to breakouts of depression.1 The first step to handle a negative situation is to recognize your reaction. Ask yourself, “What am I feeling?” 2 Any betrayal (背叛) or embarrassments in your heart? Identify what feeling has shown up in your body? So you can choose what to do next. 3 When you sense yourself shutting down or feeling defensive, ask yourself what the person actually meant to do to you. Did they truly mean to offend you, or make fun of you? Your brain works very hard to keep you safe, so it will judge a situation as threatening if there is any possibility of social harm. When our brains sense a possible threat, we react as if we were personally attacked. Take a breath to relieve the stress.4 Finally, if you believe the person doesn’t like you, ask yourself if this matters.5 If not, what can you do to release your need to be liked by this person? And, what can you do to stay neutral and not return the dislike? The more you can come to accept others as who they are, the more you can move forward with your goals regardless if someone likes you or not. A. If you can, look the person in their eyes. B. Do you feel any fear or anger in your head? C. Ask yourself what is true about the situation. D. Often people do not realize the impact of their words. E. Will the person’s judgment of you impact your work or life? F. The ability to let a show of dislike roll off your back is a learned skill. G. This will ground you in the present and take you out of your trembling mind. 2.B 根据上文的“Ask yourself, ‘What am I feeling?’” 3.C 根据下文的问句以及本段的最后一句“...so it will judge a situation as threatening if there is any possibility of social harm.” 5.E 根据上文的“ask yourself if this matters”和下文的“If not,...” [三] How to Cut Back on Playing Video Games As you get older and shoulder more responsibilities in your life, your gaming time might need to adjust. Here’s what worked well for me. Start Tracking Your Gaming Time One of the reasons why video games eat up so much time is that they’re so engaging. I can’t count how many times I’ve sat down to play games for “a couple of minutes” and then looked up to see hours have gone by. Tracking your gaming time can help, says psychologist John M. Grohol. Prepare a spreadsheet or a piece of paper, and write down when you start playing a game and when you stop.1 I found it helpful. Start Choosing Games Wisely 2 MMOs and RPGs, for example, are major time sinks. I would probably cry if I looked at my total time spent during the golden age of World of War-craft. If you’re having a hard time stepping away from these kinds of games because there’s so much to do in them, cut them out of your gaming diet.3 That way, you can play in short bursts. I still indulge in these kinds of games occasionally, but I don’t play as much as I used to. Figure Out What You’re Escaping Video games are a fun way to destress and also one of the most advanced forms of escapism out there. To reduce my gaming thirst I started looking at my escapism habits from another angle.4 Video games do offer a nice respite from the harsh truths of reality. More often than not, I would be able to identify the things that were stressing me out and making me want to escape to virtual worlds in the first place. If work was getting me down, I’d make a practical plan on how to improve it instead of grapping a controller.5 The real world doesn’t always offer that, but it never will if you always run from the issues in your life. A. Why not get away from the game you are crazy about? B. Shift your focus to games that are more pick-up-and-play. C. Then add up your total gaming time at the end of each week. D. We find it hard to get rid ourselves of the addiction to games. E.I asked myself “What am I hiding from?” and worked from there. F. Some games require a much bigger time investment than other games. G. We often run to video games because they make us feel powerful and in control. 1.C 根据空格处上一句“...write down when you start playing a game and when you stop.” [四] Traditional Chinese Culture Chinese culture is over 5,000 years old.1 The spirit of the tea ceremony Xihu Longjing(West Lake Dragon Well tea)and Yunnan Pu’er have long been world famous. 2 The spirit of the Chinese tea ceremony captures the Chinese attitude towards life and spirituality. These are the things that people all over the world can benefit from. A handful of good tea leaves with some boiling water and a set of lovely tea ware are the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon and gain some insights into the wisdom of that ancient civilization. 3 During the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, many different flavors, styles, and cuisines(烹饪)have developed, based on traditional philosophy and culture. This ancient food culture has had a direct impact on the countries such as Japan, Mongolia, South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore. It has benefited billions of people around the world through innovations such as Chinese vegetarian culture, tea culture, vinegar, pasta, medicinal diets, ceramic tableware, and the use of soybeans in the diet. Confucianism Confucianism emphasizes peacefulness and harmony between heaven and humanity, through pursuing the “Tao”, which is the harmonization between nature and mankind. It advocates harmony and moderation, including the harmony between individuals, as well as the harmony between a man and his inner self. Confucianism has flourished during the last 2,500 years of China’s 5,000-year history.4 This school of thought has had the most profound and long lasting influence in China’s history. Seventy-four Nobel Prize winners and many other highly respected scholars have stated that for the benefit of mankind’s livelihood and development into the next century, these teachings should be promoted and adopted worldwide.5 A. A grasp of how to manage color in your spaces is one of the first steps to creating rooms you’ll love to live in. Do you want a room that’s full of life? Professional? Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day?1 ,color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel. Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point.2 ,they can get a little complex. But good news is that there’re really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones. 3 .They’re the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable. Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves.4 .They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space. The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. Whether you’re looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant.5 . A. While all of them are useful B. Whatever you’re looking for C. If you’re experimenting with a color D. Small color choices are the ones we’re most familiar with E. It’s not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces F. So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time G. Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways 【语篇导读】本文主要介绍家装设计时如何选择颜色。 1.B 根据上文的三个问句,尤其是“Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day?” 2.A 根据上文提到的“...there have been a number of different techniques...”可知,A项可以承接上文,其中的“all of them”指的就是“a number of different techniques”。 3.D 根据本段最后一句中的“small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable”可知,本段介绍的是小颜色的选择。 根据下文的“They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space”可知,由G项中的“in two major ways”可引出下文。 [六] Before there was the written word, there was the language of dance. Dance expresses love and hate, joy and sorrow, life and death, and everything else in between. 1 We dance from Florida to Alaska, from north to south and sea to sea. We dance at weddings, birthdays, office parties and just to fill the time. “I adore dancing,” says Lester Bridges, the owner of a dance studio in Iowa. “I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life.” Bridges runs dance classes for all ages.“ Teaching dance is wonderful.2 It’s great to watch them. For many of them, it’s a way of meeting people and having a social life.” 3 “I can tell you about one young couple,” says Bridges. “They’re learning to do traditional dances. They arrive at the class in low spirits and they leave with a smile.4 ” So, do we dance in order to make ourselves feel better, calmer, healthier? Andrea Hillier says, “Dance, like the pattern of a beating heart, is life. Even after all these years, I want to get better and better.5 I find it hard to stop! Dancing reminds me I’m alive.” A. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insect bites, ill-cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me.1 The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer.2 We slept in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom. This brief visit with Mother Nature cost me two days off from work, recovering from a bad case of sunburn and the doctor’s bill for my son’s food poisoning. I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun-filled holiday in the wilderness.3 Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature-loving friends had remembered to bring all the necessities of life. 4 We have done a lot of it since. Recently, we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete with a bathroom and a built-in TV set. There is a separate bedroom, a modern kitchen with a refrigerator. The trailer even has matching carpet and curtains. 5 It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature. I recommend that you find your way in style. A. This time there was no tent. B. Things are going to be improved. C. The trip they took me on was a rough one. D.I was to learn a lot about camping since then, however. E.I must say that I have certainly come to enjoy camping. F. After the trip,my family became quite interested in camping. G. There was no shade as the trees were no more than 3 feet tall. 2.C 根据上文的“The friends who introduced me to camping...”和下文的“We slept in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower...” 3.A 根据上文的“We slept in a tent...”和下文的“Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner.” 4.F 根据“We have done a lot of it since. Let’s take a look at them now. 2 .Tell the person you’re sorry and explain that you have a million things to do and then ask if the two of you can talk at a different time. When people try to interrupt you, have set hours planned and let them know to come back during that time or that you’ll find them then.3 .It can help to eliminate(消除) future interruptions. When you need to talk to someone, don’t do it in your own office. 4 , it’s much easier to excuse yourself to get back to your work than if you try to get someone out of your space even after explaining how busy you are. If you have a door to your office, make good use of it.5 .If someone knocks and it’s not an important matter, excuse yourself and let the person know you’re busy so they can get the hint(暗示) that when the door is closed, you’re not to be disturbed. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month.1 One idea is that sleep helps us strengthen new memories.2 We know that, while awake, fresh memories are recorded by reinforcing (加强)connections between brain cells, but the memory processes that take place while we sleep have been unclear. Support is growing for a theory that sleep evolved so that connections between neurons(神经元)in the brain can be weakened overnight, making room for fresh memories to form the next day.3 Now we have the most direct evidence yet that he is right.4 The synapses in the mice taken at the end of a period of sleep were 18 per cent smaller than those taken before sleep, showing that the connections between neurons weaken while sleeping. If Tononi’s theory is right, it would explain why, when we miss a night’s sleep, we find it harder the next day to concentrate and learn new information—our brains may have smaller room for new experiences. Their research also suggests how we may build lasting memories over time even though the synapses become thinner. The team discovered that some synapses seem to be protected and stayed the same size.5 “You keep what matters,”Tononi says. A. We should also try to sleep well the night before. B. It’s as if the brain is preserving its most important memories. C. Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick. D. The processes take place to stop our brains becoming loaded with memories. E. That’s why students do better in tests if they get a chance to sleep after learning. F. “Sleep is the price we pay for learning,” says Giulio Tononi, who developed the idea. G. Tononi’ s team measured the size of these connections, or synapses, in the brains of 12 mice. 【语篇导读】 每种动物都需要睡眠,但是原因一直不是很清楚。一种理论认为,睡眠能增强记忆力。 1.C 上文提到,实验室的老鼠如果不睡觉,一个月内它们就会死掉。同样,如果人类好几天不睡觉,就会生病,故选C项。 2.E 上文提到睡眠能增强记忆力,这就说明了为什么学生在学完后如果能睡一段时间,他们就能在考试中发挥得更好。前后为因果关系。选项中的“That’s why...” [十] Everyone knows that fish is good for health.1 But it seems that many people don’t cook fish at home. Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult.2 This text is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way. 3 Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that you’re standing at the ocean’s edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isn’t fresh.4 When you have bought a fish and arrive home, you’d better store the fish in the refrigerator if you don’t cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two. Frozen fish isn’t as tasty as the fresh one. There are many common methods used to cook fish.5 First, clean it and season it with your choice of spices(调料).Put the whole fish on a plate and steam it in a steam pot for 8 to 10 minutes if it weighs about one pound.(A larger one will take more time.)Then, it’s ready to serve. A. Do not buy it. B. The easiest is to steam it. C. This is how you can do it. D. It just requires a little knowledge. E. The fish will go bad within hours. F. When buying fish, you should first smell it. G. The fats in fish are thought to help prevent heart disease.
