I seek friends whose qualities illuminate (照亮) me and train me up for love. It is for these people that I reserve the glowing hours, too good not to share.‎ When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say, “Let's start with a train whistle today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changed into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.‎ When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other.‎ For almost four years I have had a remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in  the other's  dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most interesting moments, I often think “Yes. I must tell. . .” We have never met.‎ It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind means more to me than the lifetime services of a psychologist, who will only fill up the healing silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.‎ ‎61. In the eighth grade, what the author did before developing proper social behavior was to________. ‎ A. become serious about her study B. go to her friend's house regularly C. learn from her classmates at school D. share poems and stories with her friend    ‎ ‎62. In Paragraph 3, “We gave London to each other” probably means _________. ‎ A. our exploration of London was a memorable gift to both of us B. we were unwilling to tear ourselves away from London C. our unpleasant feeling about London disappeared D. we parted with each other in London ‎63. According to Paragraph 4, the author and her friend_________. ‎ A. call each other regularly B. have similar personalities C. enjoy writing to each other D. dream of meeting each other ‎64. In the darkest moments, the author would prefer to________. ‎ A seek professional help        B. be left alone C. stay with her best friend      D. break the silence ‎65. What is the best title for the passage? ________.‎ A. Unforgettable Experiences B. Remarkable Imagination C. Lifelong Friendship D. Noble Companions B Did you know that women’s brains are smaller than men’s? The average women’s brain weighs 10% less than men’s. Since research has shown that the bigger the brain, the cleverer the animal, men must be more intelligent (聪明的) than women. Right? Wrong. Men and women always score similarly on intelligence tests, despite the difference in brain size. Why? After years of study, researchers have concluded that it’s what’s inside those matters, not just the size of the brain. The brain consists of “grey matter” and “white matter”. While men have more of the latter, the amount of “thinking” brain is almost exactly the same in both sexes.       It has been suggested that smaller brain appears to work faster, perhaps because the two sides of the brain are better connected in women. This means that little girls tend to learn to speak earlier, and that women can understand sorts of information from different sources at the same time. When it comes to talking to the boss on the phone, cooking dinner and keeping an eye on the baby all at the same time, it’s women who come out on top every ‎ time.       There are other important differences between two sexes. As white matter is the key to spatial (空间的) tasks, men know better where things are in relation to other things. “A great footballer always knows where he is in relation to the other players, and he knows where to go,” says one researcher. That may explain one of life’s great mysteries: why men refuse to ask for directions … and women often need to! ‎ ‎     The differences begin when fetuses (胎儿) are about nine weeks old, which can be seen in the action of children as young as one. A boy would try to climb a barrier (障碍物) before him or push it down while a girl would attract help from others. These brain differences also explain the fact that more men take up jobs that require good spatial skills, while more women speech skills. It may all go back to our ancestors (祖先), among whom women needed speech skills to take care of their babies and men needed spatial skills to hunt, according to one research. If all this disappoints you, it shouldn’t. “The brain changes throughout our lives according to what we do with it.” says a biologist.‎ ‎66. What does the passage mainly tell us?‎ A. that brain differences are related to our ancestors B. the changes in brain throughout our lives C. that men are better at spatial tasks D. the difference between men’s and women’s brains ‎67. Which of the following is true according to the first paragraph?‎ A. Women’s brain is 10% less than men’s.  B. Grey matter plays the same role as white matter.  C. Grey matter controls thinking in the brain.  D. Both sexes have the same amount of white matter.‎ ‎68. What can we infer from the second and third paragraphs?‎ A. Women prefer doing many things at a time.  B. Men do better dealing with one job at a time.  C. Women do not need to tell directions.  D. Men have weaker spatial abilities.‎ ‎69. Which of the following do you agree with according to the fourth paragraph?‎ A. Young boys may be stronger than young girls.  B. More women take up jobs requiring speech skills. C. Women may have stronger feelings than men.  D. Our ancestors needed more spatial skills.‎ ‎70. What is the writer's attitude in writing this passage? ‎ A. Defensive. B. Persuasive.  C. Supportive.  D. Objective.‎ ‎ ‎ C The Alpha Go programs victory is an example of how smart computers have become. But can artificial intelligence (AI) machines act ethically, meaning can they be honest and fair?‎ One example of AI is driverless cars. They are already on California roads, so it is not too soon to ask whether we can program a machine to act ethically. As driverless cars improve, they will save lives. They will make fewer mistakes than human drivers do. Sometimes, however, they will face a choice between lives. Should the cars be programmed to avoid hitting a child running across the road, even if that will put their passengers at risk? What about making a sudden turn to avoid a dog? What if the only risk is damage to the car itself, not to the passengers? ‎ Perhaps there will be lessons to learn from driverless cars, but they are not super-intelligent beings. Teaching ethics to a machine even more intelligent than we are will be the bigger challenge.‎ About the same time as Alpha Go’s triumph, Microsoft’s ‘chatbot’ took a bad turn. the software, named Taylor, was designed to answer messages from people aged 18-24. Taylor was supposed to be able to learn from the messages she received. She was designed to slowly improve her ability to handle conversations, but some people were teaching Taylor racist ideas. When she started saying nice things about Hitler, Microsoft turned her off and deleted her ugliest messages.‎ ‎ Alpha Go’s victory and Taylor’s defeat happened at about the same time. This should be a warning to us. It is one thing to use AI within a game with clear rules and clear goals. it is something very different to use AI in the real world. The unpredictability of the real world may bring to the surface a troubling software problem.‎ ‎ Eric Schmidt is one of the bosses of Google, which owns Alpha Go. He thinks AI will be positive for humans. He said people will be the winner, whatever the outcome. Advances in AI will make human beings smarter, more able and “just better human beings.”‎ ‎71. What does the author want to show with the example of AlphaGo's victory?
