B Every generation of teenagers is expert at finding new ways of driving their parents mad. When I was young, it was a simple matter of under-age drinking, unsuitable boyfriends or long conversations on the telephone, which could be easily seen by the entire family. These days the technology of parent-crazing is absolutely more complicated. Today's teenagers conduct their rebellions(叛逆)online, watching YouTube clips, posting private images on their Facebook pages and seeking friends with strange hobbies, which are enough to freeze their parents' blood. Danah Boyd, a Harvard academic, spent seven years being absorbed in teenage culture, attempting to explain young people to the adults who worry about them. Boyd interviewed 166 adolescents about their online lives, hung out with teens in public places and spent countless hours observing teens. From these interviews, she intended to explain the aspects of teenaged online behaviour that adults find most unacceptable. Teenagers are normally considered by the society as “public threats or targets easily harmed”. However, the youths interviewed by Boyd argued that they would prefer to interact directly, but that their parents' concern for their safety and the loss of public spaces limited them to the home. The Internet has become their alternative meeting place. Many writers couldn't resist reading Boyd's findings. Boyd's analysis of teenage life is realistic and profound. After reading much of what she discovers, most parents can give a sigh of relief. The kids are all right, but they want to be understood. They are not so different from their parents after all. 24. The author writes the first two paragraphs to________________. A. express the public's concern about the Internet B. explain how complicated the society has become C. warn us of the danger the Internet brings to people D. show today's teenage rebellions are different from the past 25. What's the author's attitude to Boyd's research? A. favorable B. doubtful C. indifferent D. critical 26. According to Danah Boyd, ________________. A. young people have lost interest in public spaces B. parents are partly responsible for teenaged online behavior C. surfing the Internet at home should be limited most of the time D. all the children are actually free from the bad effect of the Internet 27. What's the purpose of the author's writing the passage? A. To discuss how modern technology influences teenagers. B. To introduce Danah Boyd's research on networked teenagers. C. To analyze the reasons why teens are lost in the Internet. D. To criticize those parents who misunderstand their children. C They swim lovely along the shore, looking for underwater greens to feed on. But these days, along Florida’s western coast, something is mixing with the seas grass that manatees (海牛) like to eat. And it’s making them sick – even killing them. It’s a poisonous form of algae, usually called “red tide” because of its color. Algae are plant-like organisms (微生物) that live mainly in water. Most are harmless, but not red tide. When it gets mixed in with the grass and the manatees eat it, they get so sick that they can’t even swim. “They’re basically paralyzed (瘫痪的), and they become unconscious, ” said Virginia Edmonds, an animal care manager. Manatees are mammals and they need to surface often to breathe in air. If a manatee is paralyzed, it can’t swim and will drown. As of Monday, the current red tide outbreak has killed at least 174 manatees since the beginning of this year. That has already beaten Florida’s record-high number for manatee deaths in a single year – and we still have nearly nine months to go! The experts aren’t sure when the red tide outbreak will end. So many more manatees are in danger. The situation has gotten so desperate that Florida zoos have rescued at least a dozen manatees. You can find manatees anywhere from Brazil up to Florida – and throughout much of the Caribbean Sea. In fact, the manatee is officially considered an endangered species. Thanks to the US government’s protection, Florida’s manatee population has grown to approximately 5,000 in recent years. But the red tide is threatening their survival. Some experts suspect that pollution from farms even might be fueling the red tide outbreak, because fertilizer that’s used on farms often winds up in water. And when that fertilized water runs off into the Gulf of Mexico, it makes things grow faster – just like on land. If you’re in Florida and you see a manatee that doesn’t look right, wildlife officials would like you to call them. They’ve set up a free hotline – 888-404-3922. “We want to preserve the manatees for the future of Florida,” said Martine, a veterinarian (兽医) with Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. “We want future generations to enjoy manatees the way we enjoy them right now.” 28. In the text, the author seems to worry that _____________. A. manatees from Brazil up to Florida will be hunted B. the experts cannot prevent the red tide from spreading C. more manatees will be killed in the following nine months D. manatees will have to spend their winter in the Caribbean Sea 29. What can we infer from the text? A. The experts know the red tide will end this year. B. Florida zoos should try to search for sick manatees in the sea. C. The manatees benefit little from the US government’s protection. D. Farms should be stopped from sending out harmful materials into the sea. 30. The free hotline is mentioned in the last paragraph to ________. A. call on people to protect the environment B. let future generations enjoy manatees better C. remind people to save the manatees in trouble D. show the determination of protecting the manatees 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 What is a fair wage? 36 These are some of the questions the United Nations International Labour Organisation (ILO) has recently investigated. With a global population of over seven billion, is it actually possible to measure an average amount? 37 Using the total wage bill from over seventy countries, they have multiplied the amounts by the number of earners in each country. The economists then tallied(计算)up the results and divided them by the total number across the world. The result was a world average wage equivalent to $ 1,490 a month. 38 This figure might seem very high because they calculated the amount using purchasing power parity(购买力平价)dollars, which takes into account the fact that it is cheaper to live in some countries than others. 39 Calculating an average sum like this might not be a completely fair representation, but these figures do help us to understand how the world is developing, both economically, in the quality of life people are experiencing and their standard of living. But the result shows that the average wage is still relatively low and there remains a huge difference in levels of wealth around the world. 40 Is this fair? For many, pay equality still seems very far out of reach. A. The ILO has now tried to work out the sums. B. The ILO used statistics from over 70 different countries. C. Why aren’t more people in the world offered pay equality? D. That is approximately $75 a day for a 20-day working month. E. Some people live on just two dollars a day, while others are earning more than a million dollars a year. F. When someone works for themselves, what are they called? G. The data also did not include the huge number of people who appear in poverty statistics or who are self-employed. III. 完形填空(共20小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后所给各题的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Everyone has stories about facing adversity (逆境) in his lives. The 36 is what we did to overcome it. It is not a question that can be answered by words, but by the actual deed. A boy with the name Henry gave us a good example. Ronny and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Ronny and Henry were going home after school, they saw some people fighting in the street corner. Ronny said excitedly, “Some people are fighting! Let's go and have a look!” But Henry refused, “It's none of our business. We'd better go home and don't get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don't want them to worry about me.” “You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Ronny, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. Henry had to go home alone and didn't think about it anymore. But Ronny thought Henry was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn't want to play with him. Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Ronny for his rude behavior, because he had learned that true courage was shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to stick to his thought and go to school and study as well. However, Ronny didn't invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had his new friends who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had lots of fun. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: A few days later, something terrible happened to Ronny. That afternoon after school, Ronny was bathing with some of his new friends in the river happily. Suddenly, he was stuck in the mud and couldn't get out. He struggled hard but he was still trapped. He screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could. They were so scared and did not even try to help him. Paragraph 2: At that moment, Henry happened to pass by. He heard the screams and ran to the river as soon as possible. Seeing Ronny was almost drowned, Henry took off his clothes immediately and jumped into the water without any hesitation. He reached Ronny just as he was sinking the last time. With great efforts, and with much danger to himself, he brought Ronny to the shore in time. Henry was happy to help his friend, though he was extremely tired. (此篇范文不适合做高分范文)查看更多
