B Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens are to start a war on gray-headed flying foxes. These super bats have invaded one of Australia’s most famous public spaces. Officials have said the animals are destroying trees and have to move on. These unwanted guests at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens look like tiny foxes with wings. Officials have estimated there are about 11,000 of them living in the harbor-side park. After inspecting damage to dozens of trees, they now believe there are twice as many as previously thought. Branches have been breaking under the weight of these furry invaders and their droppings have been poisoning plants. Help may well be at hand, however, in the shape of the ordinary garbage bin. The gardens’ director Dr. Tim Entwistle hopes the unpleasant sounds of crashing bin lids will agitate the flying foxes and force them to move on. “The way to disturb them is to use noises, so we’ve used the loud noises made by rubbish bins in the past. You can also use speakers as long as you move the noise around, and what we’ll do is to have a series of noises, at the beginning and end of the day. What we’ve found in the past is that the flying foxes leave the gardens and go somewhere else,” said Tim. The gray-headed flying fox is Australia’s largest bat. It flies around at night using its eyes and a powerful sense of smell to search for fruit and flowers. Officials at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney have said they’re optimistic the unwelcome colony can be uprooted. If and when the bats do move to other parts of the city they will of course then become someone else’s problem. 24.Why do people want to get rid of the flying foxes? A. Because they’re threatening the survival of trees and other plants. B. Because they are polluting the city. C. Because many garbage bins have been damaged by them. D. Because the gardens are important public places. 25.What are people doing to get rid of the flying foxes? A. Shooting them. B. Making loud noises. C. Shaking the trees hard. D. Cutting some trees down. 26.Which of the following can replace the underlined “agitate” in Paragraph 3? A. excite B. kill C. discourage D. disturb 27. What does the writer imply from the last paragraph? A. The bats will still stay in the gardens. B. The grey-headed flying fox often eats trees. C. The damage caused by the bats is serious. D. Some other areas will have to deal with the bats. C Charmin toilet paper out at Costco. Masks all gone at Walgreens. A run on bags of rice. Even reasonably priced hand sanitizer is seemingly sold out at the world’s largest online retailer, Amazon. Are Americans prudently preparing for a coronavirus(冠状病毒)by stocking up? Or is this irresponsible panic buying? There are worrying effects for the shortage on some goods. U.S. Surgeon General tweeted Saturday, “Seriously people STOP BUYING MASKS! They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!” It’s true that people should be prepared for emergencies and if the coronavirus outbreak is causing some to finally get serious about an emergency supply, that may be a good thing. Dr. James Cherry of UCLA said “I think going out now and stocking up on all kinds of stuff, that doesn’t make any sense to me.” No one can predict the future, but Cherry, an expert in pediatric infectious diseases, said the situation in Washington state actually suggests the virus causes only mild symptoms in most people it infects. “They noted a fact that it had been circulating for six weeks in Washington state before anybody noticed it, with many mild cases that went unrecognized, that’s why I don’t think this will be so bad,” said Cherry, a primary editor. “I think people shouldn’t overreact,” Cherry said. “I think you should carry on normal schedules. So far worldwide, it is reported that more than 90,000 people have been infected with the new coronavirus and more than 3,000 have died in less than three months. To be sure, people should remain vigilant, and physicians will have to see how the outbreak plays out. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said anyone finding it difficult to breathe needs to seek prompt medical attention, and to call your healthcare provider before seeking care if you suspect the new coronavirus. 28. What is the purpose of the word of U.S. Surgeon General? A. To encourage people to buy masks. B. To let people clean their communities. C. To recommend people to help the patients. D. To advise people to leave masks to medical staff. 29. What is the main idea of the second paragraph? A. Solutions from some experts. B. Opinions of social sectors. C. Criticism of those who buy masks. D. Suggestions from healthcare providers. 30.What should you do if you suspect you have a new coronavirus? A. Stay at home and do nothing. B. Go to the hospital immediately. C. Go to the drugstore to buy medicine. D. Call relatives and friends right away. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The world is a colorful landscape of different languages, skin colors, and different cultures. Jason Storie heard it but was not worried as he prepared for a day of caving with five friends in a remote spot 80 miles northwest of his home in Duncan, on Canada’s Vancouver Island. It was 6 a.m. on December 5, 2015. As a newcomer to the sport, Jason had gone caving only four times. This would be his toughest outing yet: a cave called Cascade. It was dangerous enough that the entrance was blocked by a locked metal door to keep the casual cavers out. About a mile long and 338 feet deep, Cascade was full of tums and barely to pass through. Jason was new among the group, with the least experience and, at 43, older by a decade or more. It was his friend Andrew Munoz, 33, who introduced him to the sport. Unlike Jason, Andrew was an expert caver-a former caving guide, actually. They hiked a bit before coming to the door, which sat in the ground—you’d miss it if you weren’t looking for it. It was 10 a.m. With their way lighted by headlamps, they walked down a narrow passage with sharp rocks. The silence was broken by a drip-drip-drip from above. Soon the drip turned into a light but steady flow, and they were wading(跋涉) in water up to their ankles, then to their shins. Two hours later, they approached one of the features that made the cave unique: a narrow passage not big enough to stand up in, leading into a short, tight downhill. This had a name: Bastard’s Crawl. Four streams met here, and indeed, the water was flowing more quickly. The sound of the water had turned into a roar. When they finally neared the top of the Crawl, there were barely four inches of air left between the water and the ceiling. not enough for them to keep their heads up to breathe. They came to terrifying realization that they were in danger! 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: The water kept rising, and there was no hope of rescue.______________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Slowly but steadily, the group made their way forward. ______________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【参考答案】 一:听力 (1.5x20 满分30分) 1-10 BCCAA AABBB 11-20 CACAB CBABC 二:阅读理解 (2.5 x 10 满分 25 分) 21-30 CCBAB DDDBB 三:七选五 (2 x 5 满分 10分) 31-35 CADBE 四:完形填空 (1.5 x20 满分 30分) 36-45 DABAA DCBAC 46-55 DBCAB DADBC 五: 语法填空 (1.5 x10 满分 15分 ) 56. has made 57. on/upon 58. Knowing that you are recruiting volunteers for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, I’m writing to apply for the opportunity. I believe that I am qualified for it in many aspects. Firstly, I am good at English and I can talk with foreign tourists in English freely. Besides, I am familiar with the local conditions, which makes it possible for me to show directions clearly. Last but not least, I get along with others easily and I'm ready to give help whenever necessary. Should you give me a chance of a personal interview, I would be most grateful. Please consider my application, and I' m looking forward to your early reply. Yours Sincerely, Li Hua 七:读后续写 (满分25分) Paragraph 1 The water kept rising, and there was no hope of rescue. The hours passed. Jason and Andrew didn’t dare to move for fear of slipping. They slept for a moment and then pushed themselves awake. Every once in a while, one of them turned on his headlamp to check the water level. An hour later, the water level went down enough that they could try an escape. Stiff from keeping in one position for 12 hours, they slowly unfolded their bodies. Jason screamed in pain, but he was determined not to let it stop him Paragraph 2 Slowly but steadily, the group made their way forward. Still, each time Jason moved a leg, he cried out. Over the next 90 minutes, they made their way toward the entrance, at times in chest-high water. Now, in a passage that was high enough for them to walk upright, Jason saw something flash in the distance. “Lights! I see lights!” Jason shouted out. For the first time since entering the cave, over 20 hours earlier, Jason’s emotions got the best of him and tears rolled down his cheeks. 查看更多
